I hit the Jackpot in the 360 lottery!

I picked up 360 #4 this past Monday. It's a FDOU, 9/24/07, 739.

Opened it up last night, and...it's a Falcon! (At least it is if the capacitor thing is correct-where if it only has two it's a Falcon.)

Then I checked the drive, and it's a BenQ! Can't believe my luck. That's EXACTLY the combo I wanted.

One thing I noticed-the gigantic power brick looks the same as the old one did, but it's MUCH lighter. I'd guess half the weight. Instead of the old thick 3 prong cord, it comes with a skinny 2 prong cord.
Between those two things, I'm assuming the power brick actually provides less power than the old one (even though it still says 203 watts).

I wonder if all Falcon's come with that new power brick? I'm assuming the Zehyr's come with the older brick?

As for noise...well, I do think it's quieter than my first 3 units. Maybe only gets 2-3x as loud when running 360 games versus sitting at the dash (which sounds the same). It's still obnoxious, but a definite improvement. They still need to fix that though. Do a major redesign of some sort, find a better drive, SOMETHING. Maybe with Jasper...

So...I'm still torn on whether to make the 360 my "Main" console or pick up a Playstation 3 for that. It's still loud, I still don't completely trust its reliability, and it still has an astoundingly crappy D-pad (I can't believe people seriously consider buying VF5 for this platform! It's insane that BOTH HANDHELDS have better dpads!) On the other hand, I probably have the best 360 hardware available until Jasper. It's got more games that *I* want. It at least has SOME backwards compatibility (and all units are equally good for that), and I like it's controller options a lot more (wired, or wireless with multiple power options, versus no wired, and just a stupid sealed battery design).
 
I'm sorry but this thread is pretty damn worthless.

I'm still on my launch 360 without a hitch, I am just amazed that people get so caught up with the different iterations of hardware changes in the 360 so religiously.... Really, it's phenomenal.

Why would they need to be exclusives? I'm talking about where I would buy the NON exclusive games.

Why would it be phenomenal, when I've been through THREE of them so far, and they've all sounded like blenders? Why WOULDN'T we try to get one that works?

Well then they should have used a slower drive, or put limits in the firmware or something, or allowed you to copy more content to the hard drive temporarily and spin the DVD slower.
 
Umm....getting a Falcon chipset and a BenQ drive in a previously broken 360 is still a previously broken 360. :)

This is a new one I just picked up Monday. I trashed my last one because it was out of warranty (except that later it wasn't, but oh well :D )

Technically my second one died from random error codes (E74 or something)? My first two died quickly enough that I could just return them to the store.

Well for me, Xbox Live itself is enough reason to only get exclusives on the 360, but you may not give a shit about that. Not to mention the fact that many games run better on the 360.

While I agree my DVD drive can be loud, it doesn't really bother me for some reason. Probably because my games are loud, and I only notice during load screens.

I do agree that they should give us a reason to buy the bigger hard drives and have more caching.
 
im sorry it has nothing to do witht he subject but what is the correct amount for a MTU on xbox 360 cause mines being playin up and i need to change it

I think all the hating in this thread comes from the fact that the "360 lottery" brings to mind the idea that you've gotten a 360 back from service or something. When you buy a 360 you could always return and rebuy until you get the one you want. Anyway, there's a bit of a bragging tone in saying "guess what I got". I suspect the reason for a separate Bragging Rights forum is because some people react so negatively to this (myself included).

You then go on to introduce some notion of "which is better, 360 or PS3" into the post while this is the microsoft gaming forum. No way that's going to go well...

Now look, I love a good "FAIL!" post as much as the next guy (if not more) but I think there's a bit too much hostility in here...

Good for you. If you have enough money to buy and support both consoles, go ahead. As far as which console is your "main" console, I don't know. I would say overall the 360 is better NOW, but the PS3 will be better in the future. You'd be better off making the two consoles play roles. You'll buy and play online games on the 360, and solo games with the PS3. Works out.

Nice impressions on the Falcon, I'd like to get my hands on that if/when I get RROD'd.

And yeah, the d-pad isn't great, but the 360 is fps heaven anyway, ain't like you need a spectacular d-pad.
 
OMFG! I just looked at my 360 wireless adapter and it has the exact combination of intarweb and wifiez I wanted!

You have got to be fucking kidding me! I looked closely at my wireless headset and it has the exact combination of listening and talking it should have!

fuck me! Microsoft is on the ball with combinations of things that should be in their products!

I would love to hear the deductive reasoning behind this statement.

Are you just believing in Sony's hype that after time developers will unlock the PS3's power, which will be noticeably more than the 360? Or do you conclude this some other way?

Hardware wise, Sony is better now than the 360 will ever be. Falcon's are still Red ringing, leaving me to question if MS will ever get it right...
 
this was an interesting thread, mostly just to read everyone's reactions to the OP. P.S. - the 360 will always be better, mine's good, and if it does die, i will send it in to get fixed - fo free, in the mean time i can take that time to go outside and try to remember what the sun looks like, luckily even though it's cold out, i opened my dresser and found the perfect combination of pants and a sweater to wear outside to protect me from the elements, talk about a jackpot!

Man don't you feel dumb. Don't you read your MS 360 FAQ before you go trashing a broken 360. If it had the 3 red flashing lights on the circle...it would have been repaired for free. Microsoft extended warranty repairs of that nature to 3 years. Man sucks to be you, throwing away a console that could have been repaired for free and you would have saved yourself some $$$ by just being patient.

Yeah, I am believing in the hype. The PS3 games themselves are going to get better because of the space (50GB? compared to 9GB) and obviously the hardware. That alone is good enough to make an assumption.

I just like the fact that Sony is for the customer. They allow you to use things such as your bluetooth, while microsoft likes to nickle and dime you, get you to buy their bs mics, wireless adapters, harddrive space, etc.

With the recent $400 PS3, they are going to sell. They're probably going to drop price more as time progresses, and the PS2 owners will move on up. That gives developers a shout; hey, lets make a great game and make some money, cause now, there's huge market potential.

SKUs also come into effect because of the fact that some 360s don't have haddrive while all PS3 SKUs have em.

The 360 already dropped their games, PS3 has yet to drop theirs. They've been releasing new IPs but they haven't touched their other catalog of games. Lineup is more diversed. The 360s oversaturated with FPS games, PS3 covers more genres. From IGN, there are 5 non fps with a rating of 9 or above; Forza, Pinata, DOA, PG4, Dirt. With the PS3 your gaurenteed 9s in MGS, FF, GT, GoW, and Tekken, and then NOW you have Rachet, Uncharted, Folklore, and Motorstorm.

Abridged version: The PS3 owns non-FPS titles. If you like FPS titles, you can call the 360 king. Then again, most people agree that COD4 > Halo, and COD4 is on the PS3. IIRC, PS3 is getting Crysis, which looks to be the next great game.

I personally hope the 360 owns the PS3, just cause I have a 360 and won't be getting a PS3 anytime soon. You can't ignore the facts. The only thing the 360 will hold forever is online play, but you never know. Home could be the IT thing that brings PS3 players into the online world.
 
He said he was fortunate that he got a good combo. Don't you find yourself unfortunate that you have spent more on consoles then some of us have on games?
 
Yeah..the 360 might be FPS heavy but you can't argue with the exclusivity of the largest media launch OF ALL TIME (Halo 3) .. the 360 will rule the PS3 for a VERY long time unless the PS3 starts getting games.....oh and Crysis isn't gonna make any difference

It depends what you consider to be the best console. At the end of the day, all three consoles are great. As a gamer, beyond reviews, I don't look at numbers. I don't care how many people are playing Halo 3. I care about the actual product. As far as FPS goes, I and others were dissapointed in Halo 3. Many people said COD is GOTY and all that, but its on the PS3 too. That's the point I'm trying to make. The 360 got the FPS scene on lock, but the PS3 has COD4, is getting Orange Box, and Crysis.

There it is. I'm not a believer of quantity over quality, I believe in playing the best game. Obviously with Crysis, COD4, and Orange Box, the PS3 is sitting pretty in the section of gaming that the 360 is owning. And then the fact that the PS3 owns the other genres of gaming, leads me to believe it is the better console.

You can obviously yell out XBOX LIVE XBOX LIVE. But in all honesty, what does it boil down to as far as gameplay? Greater amount of players, matchmaking, and a headset. The PS3 obviously has matchmaking and a headset. The only thing they are missing, is the online players. Obviously there going to continue to develope, I mean one of their focus points has been Home. With the pending price drops, future titles, and the ps2 players updating, more players will come in and that my friend, leads to more players (which is the thing that Live has over PS3).

I am a gamer, not a 360 fanboy. I see the PS3 and its great future. That's not to say the 360 sucks. With all of the games that came out in this last quarter of 2007, I'd be fine for the rest of the 360's life. We have Mass Effect to look forward to, we have Gears 2, its looking good man. Halo 2 is still being played, Halo 3 will be played for a long time. Japan is starting to warm up to the 360, and we're slowly taking away great PS3 titles (DMC ftw!).

One of the things that would be so amazing (probably can't happen) is if Microsoft could sync PC servers with 360 servers. That would be something (although all the PC owners would own us, whipping their mouses while we're pushing the little stick).

When is the 360 getting support for different videos? I'm tired of this BS wmv crap.
 
the hell did crysis come from?

last i heard about it being on any console is...its not coming unless we wanted it and it would have to be downgraded a bit to even get it on running either system

Believe it or not, I've seen a PS3 Boxart of Crysis, whether or not it was real is another thing. I don't think its official, but I can easily see the PS3 running it.

As for Malik112099, again, I'm a gamer, not a sales rep. To say a game like Crysis wouldn't do console gaming a favor is an injustice.

You know, I thought I saw it on Gamestop, my mistake. Regardless, my arguments remain true. Is this another PS3 v 360 thread? No, absolutely not. Thrustbucket wanted to hear my reasoning, I typed it out. I remain unbiased, unlike many who disregard the fact that the PS3 has the non-fps scene on lock. Unlike these people who seem to think a plethora of fps games means a greater system, without realizing that the best fps games (beyond Gears and Halo) are also on, or are coming onto the PS3.

I do not disregard the greatness of the 360. It is the best console out NOW. The PS3 is the best console in the FUTURE. I'm not the first to come to this conclusion, if you won't, that's fine. The PS3 has the better specs and better potential but at the end of the day, today, the 360 is King.

Much like the NBA, today, Kobe is king. He is the best player on the planet. The younger LeBron James has better "specs" than him, yet Kobe is king. Years from now, LeBron may very well surpass Kobe because of his superior genetics and youth. This is the conclusion I come to with the PS3. In actuality, will LeBron pass Kobe? It's a safe bet in my eyes. The same goes for the PS3.

Will it actually happen? Will Bron pass Kobe? Will the PS3 pass the 360? Nobody knows. I am merely voicing my opinion. In no way am I asking for another console war. I can easily look the other way, and say that the PS3 is built on false hope. 1 year, and nothing noteworthy, albeit I haven't actually PLAYED any PS3 games. If the "great exclusive titles" for the PS3 bomb, then the 360 keeps its crown. And just for kicks, if LeBron doesn't develope a jumpshot, his freethrows, clutchness, and defense he won't surpass Kobe.

I can easily change my mind and go one or the other. I aim to bring mature discussions, and I aim to change the closed mind-ness of some of these posters, whom believe the 360 is the almighty and the PS3 is poo on a stick. I aim to change fanboys into gamers.
 
the problem with being the best console fo the future is that this generation is technically already 2 years old.....consoles dont usually have a big future until the newer better thing comes out..i guess sony will be making the PS3 slim when the PS4 has been out for a year
