When I woke up this morning and tried to access my email, I was greeted with a big surprise. Yahoo had upgraded my email for free! Before I had 4.0 MB of storage, but now I have 100! I am really surprised at this. Has Yahoo ever done this to anyone else?
 
I would also like to shout out to Yahoo! Mail. I awoke to the same thing this morning. :D I wonder if everyone is getting this or just long time users. I've had my account since 1997 and I check it almost every day...
 
The first thing I did was check my first registration email, and I've only been with them since January 9th 2003. So, not too long

Also, did anyone who got this do the really long yahoo survey about email? Because I did, and I'm wondering if there is any connection

MAkes me want to take more surveys!
 
I still only have 4MB for one of my yahoo accounts and I have 100MB for my really old one...
 
Check the USA Today and every other news source in the country. They expanded everyone to 100MB in response to Google launching gMail with a GB.
 
One of my accounts got the upgrade, the other did not. The newest account is the one that got the upgrade. Seems haphazard to me.
 
Yeah that was definitely a pleasant surprise. I actually had about 15-20mb until today. I mean, it's about time, I've had my account for over 5 years. But definitely cool, you can also send up to 10mb in attachments rather than 3mb. :)
 
GMail still kicks Yahoo!'s ass. I'm part of the beta, and it's no contest at all. The GMail interface is very nice - not cluttered at all. The text-based ads aren't nearly as obtrusive as Yahoo!'s ads. And there's also the fact that you get ten times the space. :)

GMail > Yahoo!
 
i actually signed up for yahoo plus, where i went from 4 to 25 megs, no ads, ability to use outlook. Now ive got those features, a few more, and 2 GIGS of space.

life is good.
 
I signed up for Yahoo's POP Access and Forwarding so I could open my email in Outlook. They've upgraded my account to a Mail Plus account with no graphical ads and 2GB of storage :shock: I'll never use that much, but it's nice to have. I guess now I can leave copies of my emails on the mail server instead of having only local copies in Outlook. One of the new upgrades I do appreciate is a 10MB message size limit; it's much better for sending large attachments.

It seems that they've revamped the interface as well. It has pretty much the same layout as before, but it's cleaner and looks good.
 
I'd like to give a shout out to my own domain, redgopher.com, for which I have my own email and practically unlimited space for... everything. :)
 
Yahoo's update was a nice suprise. For those that need more than the 100 megs and did not get into the Gmail beta, you may want to check out Spymac.com. You will get a 1 gig email address and it is all free and up and running right now. Since I am not in the Gmail beta I cannot compare it with Spymac but in the few months I have been with Spymac, I have had no real issues.
 
Ever sence I opened my Yahoo account I have yet to use even half of my 4.0 MB limit. I dont know what Im going to do with 100 MB.
 
yea, i was surprised too...its like gfaqs all over again w/ the new layout/look...except this one is for the good b/c gfaqs, imo, screwed up the thing...however, i've gotten used to it...
 
Yeah I agree the new set up is s bit on the slow side. I'm glad though I was at 60-70% capacity on my mail box for like 3 years this 100mb gives me ALOT more breathing room, now I onlyhave like 4% filled.

But then again when you concider how people were getting so much spam that they made our spam box a freebie, people were probably racking up 100s of mb a week without even trying!

My question though, is Gmail still using that thing where it has skimmers that search your mail to send you Google sanctioned spam based on things you talk about with your friends? (ie. EB ads when you discuss buying video games)

I dunno. I have to disagree with you Gothic. I don't have access to gmail, but I have a friend who does and I took a tour of it a short time aao. It does have siome nice features that Yahoo doesn't have, but overall Yahoo has a much more complete and useful email system. From what I understand, Gmail doesn't even have a complete virus scanner. Unless they've had a major update between when I used it.

Yahoo and Gmail both have their advantages and their faults. But frankly, neither one could be stated to be superior to the other. I'd say they're about even.

I wasnt able to get [email protected] but oh well.

Sorry but Gmail is gonna put the hurt on every email service out there. In a year from now..hotmail and yahoo accounts will be spamboxes. IMHO

like ive said before...everyone got 100mb mailboxes...millions of people taking up 10 times more than they used too...i think its gunna slow down a bit till they get the kinks worked out

What do you have to do to be invited by Google.com to be able to use gmail?

this new yahoo mail can blow me..ive got two accounts..one for reg use, and another for my other ebay account, i can get into my reg one fine but it will not load my other accoutn and i got stuff to pay for..this sucks..
