Title says it all, I've recently finished Y: The Last Man, been reading The Walking Dead for a while and read a few of Sin City. Not much of a "Super Hero" comic guy, just something along the lines of the first two I mentioned. Anyhow, fire away.

Fables
Jack of Fables
Wolverine: Old Man Logan (it maybe a superhero, but trust me, you'll like it)
Hack Slash
Criminal
Wanted was pretty good. I was able to read through it in an afternoon, since it's only six issues.
Forgot about Wanted, read through it too. Thought it was trying to be too in your face, to an assholish extent.

walking dead is awesome stuff. i only just got back into comics myself so i dunno. i will tell you this if you ever liked xmen you should check out the old man logan series. one of the best alternate future things ive seen in a while. cant wait for the ending.
I've heard good things about DMZ, but I haven't checked it out yet. 100 Bullets is good too, though I'm super far behind.
My brother lent me the first two collections of DMZ and I couldn't even get through the first. It's not that it was bad, it just didn't grip me.

Non Super Hero Stuff:
Scalped (Like Pulp Fiction on an Indian Reservation)
Ex Machina (I'm only half way through the 2nd trade, but it's written by Brian K Vaughn, and has been fantastic so far)
Fables

Superhero Stuff:
Ed Brubaker's run on Daredevil (more noir than a typical super-hero comic)
Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men (got a little slow for me in the 2nd trade, but the 3rd and 4th more than made up for it)
Ed Brubaker's Captain America

IMO, the Bendis/Maleev run on Daredevil definitely surpasses the current Brubaker/Lark run. It's not so much a superhero book as a book that just happens to have a superhero in it.

Great info here. I picked up Y the last man Vol 1 and loved it, even my wife is into it. Reading through Vol 5 now and so curious how it ends. I tried watchman and I know its the holy grail of comics but, I didn't like it. One thing my wife points out is how expensive it ads up to be. We are looking to spend over $100 on Y the last man TPB. Luckily we discovered the library has a pretty descent TPB collection.

OK, let's see

Scott Pilgrim Series - Just a fun light hearted book that takes so many different things that we've grown up with video games/manga/music. It's basically about a guy in his 20's who meets a girl and win her heart has to battle her 7 ex boyfriends.

Queen & Country - it's a british spy comic and it's basically the best written spy book out there. Always on the edge while reading it. Try to forgive the art in the last story though.

Gothan Central - Batman books but without batman. If you ever wanted to see the gritty crime stories of Gotham this is it. Great, great characters.

I Kill Giants - Just out in TPB and my favorite book of last year. It's only a 7 issue mini but you will most likely identify with the main character and most likely have your emotions kicked upon by this book.

Superhero Books

Kingdom Come - I know you don't like superhero books but if you do read on this is it. It's pretty much the future of the DC universe. Rightfully, if you're into DC you'll get a ton out of this, if not then you might be confused as to some of these people are but as long as you know the big ones (anyone in DC Vs Mortal Kombat) then you'll be ok.

All-Star Superman - The best Superman story in about the last decade.

Identity Crisis - A murder mystery that just happens to involve super heroes. Really gripping and the super heroness takes a back seat for the most part.

These 2 are long shots but are pure fun
Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Wars/ Nova: Annihilation - These are big cosmic super hero books but done so well. The Green Lantern Book is basically big epic space battles and an amazing job of retooling the green lantern mytho (if you know nothing about GL then start with "Secret Origins" TPB).
Nova is about a guy who's Corps was destroyed but he's the lone survivor and he's trying to do everything the Corps did by himself. Each issue ends so you always want to read "just one more issue" before you go to bed. The main character is very accessible and entertaining especially when he's playing off the voice in his head.

By the way Y: the last man is probably my favorite long running series from start to finish. I couldn't put it down.

After I finished Y-Last Man I moved to these non-superhero titles:

Local - 12 interconnected short stories about Megan McKeean as she travels across the country. Awesome art by Ryan Kelly, what interested me was Kelly used real locations as reference and it really shows

Scott Pilgrim -

Ex Machina - Don't worry it's very light on Superheros and very high on politics

Oh yeah and Kick Ass. Trying to be a superhero in the real world with stabbings, decapitations and other fun things.

This is probably unpopular with the comic book sect here, but I collect the original Mirage Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles books, and I can't recommend the first 11 books enough. There's a tpb coming out next month.

If you aren't into the classic Turtles story, I recommend the "Soul's Winter" storyline by Michael Zulli. It was originally split across three books, TMNT #31, #35, and #36. It's quite an interesting read, and I recommend it to Turtles fans and haters alike. There's a tpb out now, but I haven't been able to find it at any local stores.

I thought the same, but it wasn't a bad read. Worth the time, since it's only six issues.

The Marvel Noir Series are pretty good, but they might be a bit too Super-Hero-ie for you.

So I decided to go with Hack/Slash and I'm kind of hooked. Only read the first few but noticed on one of the covers it says it's going to be a movie? I hope they don't screw it up. It's a good comic and I'd hate to see it be a bust. I'll keep this thread bookmarked for future reference though.

Umbrella Academy is fantastic. They just finished up the second story arc and the next trade is scheduled for fall. Pick it up.

Anything by Garth Ennis is pretty good. I have been enjoying "The Boys". Very violent, but funny and intriguing as well.

I've been out of the comic for a while but I did dig Fell when I wasogling to the store once per week (thank goodness those days are over-too expensive). I will also recommend Queen and Country. Great spy series IMO.

Some people mentioned these above but my favorite non-cape & tights books are:

Fables
Jack of Fables
Preacher
The Stand - Stephen King's book put in graphic novel form. This a treat for anyone weather they read the orginal book or not.
Kick Ass - kinda super hero, but it's placed in real life with a nerdy high schooler prowling the nights as a super hero. He gets overnight fame by a youtube video, then all hell breaks loose. Good stuff
Locke & Key - I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet. It's a great thriller

Y the Last man was my favorite. Good job on picking that up.

Flaming Carrot

The Dark Knight Returns

Kingdom Come

The Preacher

Just a Pilgrim

Batman: The Killing Joke

Howard the Duck (Marvel MAX)

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

The Sandman

Can't believe I didn't mention this earlier, but "Transmetropolitan" is amazing. Some of the best writing I've encountered in comics. Equally vulgar, hysterical, and touching.

I just finished the Walking Dead myself, and I have to say it was amazing can't wait for Vol 10 to come out.

I bought a bunch of Garth Ennis' Punisher series and I have to say that it is good aswell, really gritty and realistic, pick up a vol and I guarantee you will be hooked.

Also grabbed vol 1 of The Boys, i'm hooked going to pick up vol 2 and 3 at the end of the week.

Ed Brubaker had an old series at WildStorm called Sleeper that is amazing, which had a followup called Point Blank. It has a few superhero types in it, but isn't a superhero book by any reach.

I seen someone mention Powers, It has Superheros but in a wierd way, Bendis is an amazing writer I suggest picking up a volume. Bendis is the best writer in comics in my opinion.

And I might get harped on for this but I'm going to say WildC.a.t.s 3.0 Which is hard to grab since it all wasn't collected but an amazing series.

fables
dmz
dead@17
american virgin
the goon
powers
if you liked walking dead check out kirkmans other books: the astounding wolfman or invincible
runaways is kinda superheroish but i still really like it

Just a heads up if you wanna be cheap. Borders has a 40% off 1 item coupon thats good until Sunday. They don't work for comic books, but they do work for TPB. Usually their weekly % off coupon are only 25-30 (which has been a godsend as I work my way through Y the last man). You do need to get their "rewards card" but its free.
