Is there a trick to keeping a french baguette fresh longer or does that type of bread just go stale in a few days no matter what you do? Generally I've just been keeping it in the bag they're sold in. (at room temp.)
I believe thats the type of thing thats going to go stale quick no matter what. My mom occasionally makes homemade bread and it will start to harden in about 2 to 3 days and by the 4th day its nearly inedible. Whereas store bought loafs of bread seem to last 1-2 weeks. I'm not sure why that is .. the amount of yeast perhaps?

Freezing part of it would probably work out great. That's a slap your forehead 'why didn't I think of that myself?' suggestion. Of course you have to know how much you plan to use soon and how much you'll want in a couple days. Maybe I'll try 50-50ing the next one.

The plastic container is kind of tough because those suckers are so damn long.

And Makler - could be due to one of the dozen or so unpronouncable ingredients in an average store bought loaf?

We used to freeze bolillo rolls for school lunches when I was in high school. For the most part it worked pretty well. Made the bread slightly tougher, but not so much that it really bothered you.

Gonna grab God of War II in an hour, along with a Microsoft Points card from Target, so's I can play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

it's because french bread and italian bread are often freshly prepared in the store, and not pre-packaged. all prepackaged breads (with a few exceptions) contain preservatives such as sodium bezonate (or something like that)

oh yea, mornin OTT

so today the weather is supposed to be 70 with showers later in the day. tomorrow is supposed to be 52 with rain. friday is supposed to be 35 with "wintery mix". how fucked up is that.

It's 60 degrees, here. Supposed to be 20, with snow, by the end of week.

And, dammit; I wish I had a PayPal account:

That's a sweet buckle.

fuckin sweet! I finally got me an LG enV today. This thing rocks! All ready used a microsd card and transfered the wallpaper that used on my old phone...just put it on the card from my PC. Which by the way, the wallpaper is the same as my avatar on here heh. Right now listening to The Replacements Alex Chilton from my phone right now. Love that song and decided to toss that one on there as a test. Speakers aren't the greatest, but would else do you expect from a cell phone with speakers like these
It's not very hard to set up and use a PayPal account. Assuming you have a CC.
I don't.
I don't.
Yeah, then it's tougher. A checking account works too. But if don't have either than you pretty much have to sell something to get money into your PayPal account. Too much work and it would never work out even.

I've been buying baguettes at various places over the past couple months and the surprising thing for me is that the one I got from Super Wal-Mart was one of the best. Gives Panera a run.
Walmart's French Bread is oddly good as well.

I never understood it either.
my grandmother used to be a bakery manager at ShopRite. A lot of the stuff made is store really isn't bad. It's not hard to make french or italian bread and it tastes awesome.

If you do, I'll play some coop with you.

Also, Wal-Mart's cinnamon rolls are actually really good. They use an awesome cream cheese frosting.

Damn it, I forgot, I need to start the chicken breats I have for dinner marinading. Using Jamican Jerk marinade tonight. That and i need to go thru and Update my new cells address book

Lionhart- Wow. That's awesome. I really want that faucet LED.

Brak- You know, I bought a belt capable opf supporting buckles that actually fir me a few months ago (previous stores I went to only carried S/M/L and Medium was like just my size, and Large was way too big. :/) and have yet to buy a buckle for it. That's tempting. Very cool.

'Ello OTT, happy Pi day.
Epic's games have always been fast paced so blaming Halo wouldn't be appropriate.
Sure it would. Johnny 12 year old has probably never played unreal tournament but he sure as hell played Halo 2 on live. Halo 2 was "the" xbox live game for a long ass time until Gears took over and every cheap son of a bitch who used the sword or shotgun in Halo moved on to the shotgun in Gears. Halo was the training ground for Gears.

One prays that the usage of said weapons is in a careful, responsible and reasonable manner, and that they are maintained well and stored safely.

Fixed a toilet a few days ago. Thing was leaking from the top tank into the basin (so not onto the floor thankfully) and after a bunch of fiddling around with the guts to see if an easy fix would work I had to take the entire top tank off to find out the rubber gasket that sits between the top tank and the basin was rotted.

Replaced everything with a full kit and since the instructions say everywhere 'Do not overtighten or you may crack the porcelain!' I kind of semi-tightened everything and had it fill up to see what happens. Of course it now starts leaking onto the floor.

So I took it back apart and tightened everything down pretty tightly. Nothing cracked and it now can hold its water. The best part is I decided to check the other toilets in the place and one of the other ones has the same symptom. I'm betting the underlying problem must also be the same. Same age toilet with probably the same gasket.

this morning when i was in the shower, guess who decided to join me? no, not lionhart. he was already at work. the dog randomly got curious as to what goes on behind the plastic curtain and jumped right it. so, he got a bath. technically, i guess he got a shower, but either way, it had the same result. no more super smelly dog, just regular smelly dog.

Talk about the lesser of two choices for a shower companion.

My cat jumps in the shower too. She doesn't mind water at all. Tried using a water pistol to 'train' her as a kitten but it took about two squirts for her to realize she liked it.

Read that cats don't like the feel of aluminum foil so you can put that down on the edge of things you don't want them to jump on. Tried that and found her laying down on the foil.

Shaking a can full of coins worked once. The next time she just sat there and looked at the can.

We also had to put child locks on all of the cabinet doors as she figured out how to paw them open and likes to chew through boxes and bags of food. Mentioned here before that she's opened the freezer door of the fridge a few times. Luckily that hasn't happened when I've been gone for the day or weekend.

She's lucky she's so adorable.

I used to have an NES controller buckle, but I broke it in half at work (Kmart), when a piece of boxed furniture kinda fell on my crotch. It kinda sucked, anyway... I've been thinking about making a buckle out of a real NES controller, ala-Captain N. I'd just need a holster for the Zapper.

I currently have an American flag belt buckle, simply because it's ridiculous. It's just a plain, rectangular flag.

That's how we bathe our dog. She LOVES water, so when we take a shower, we have to sneak in before she realizes what's happening or she'll sit in the shower stall and wait for us to turn on the water (really fucking annoying if we aren't going to bathe her!). So when it IS time to bathe her, the wife will hop in, take a shower, and then open the door and let the dog in. I'd do it, but that extra appendage just doesn't seem safe right at sharp dog teeth level. So I do the drying off when the dog's done instead.

I had a friend who converted a NES Controller into a belt. He put a fastener similar to that of a seatbelt on it and shortened the cord to the point where it would actually hold his pants up. Pretty niffty, I thought, although I have never been a fan of belt buckles.

Oh yeah, how's that Machamp coming?

I shouldn't read old OTTs. I makes me carpet bomb people's PM boxes, as I've not seen a number of smart, clever people I really enjoyed reading not post at all.

At least I can take solace in the fact that there is still quite a bit of awesome around.

jake has figured out how to use the kitchen chairs to get up on the kitchen table. he's big enough that he could just jump and put his front paws up on it, but i don't think he's realized that. he's also figured out how to open the lazy susan cabinet and help himself to some snacks. he's a lab so obviously he loves the water. i've given him a bath a couple of times, but this was his first time actually taking initiative to jump in while i was bathing.
