I want your Metroid stuff!! Have: paypal, rare new ps3 games & more!
While I know you meant binary, $ sort of implies that it's in decimal, so it looks more like $1212.
Yeah, the fact that it's confusing is part of the joke  Just taking the whole "bid in a fashion that forces everyone to jump through a time-consuming hoop in order to see if they've been outbid" situation to an even further extreme.
I fail to see how he is making you guys out to be the bad guys. Neiname did the smart thing and he beat you guys. Go whine somewhere else. We all know this is a lowball sale, but it's not his fault you were being too damn cheap to spend an extra couple of bucks.
He didn't beat me.

I don't think anyone believes it wasn't smart. He's a smart douchebag. Happy day!

Making us seem like bad bidders, and I didn't lose a damn thing. It was a bullshit cheap tactic.

I'm not whining, I was just pointing out how fucking stupid it was for him to do that, and even more ridiculous that someone is willing to jump to his side when he clearly was trying to fuck everyone over.

What he did was bullshit, plain and simple.
So you underbid trying to get a deal and get upset when someone bids higher than you. Why didn't you just bid the most you wanted to pay and be done with it. If someone sniped you or outbid you at the end it's because they wanted to pay more than you did. What's Bushido Blade 1 and 2 worth? ($30-40) yet you had the balls to leave a $4 and $5 bid out there and expect to not be outbid? Final Fantasy III is at least $27-30 and you leave a $17 bid hanging out there. Do not condem my tactics when you are trying to pay less than you are willing to pay hoping that someone doesn't come and outbid you.
I also like how you're trying to call people on bidding low on items, and use Bushido Blades 1 and 2 as examples of how people had bid $4 or $5 on $30 or $40 games, but that you ended up missing out on submitting your high-and-mighty, totally-willing-to-plunk-down-what-they're worth bids of $6 and $7 at the last minute.
He didn't beat me.

I don't think anyone believes it wasn't smart. He's a smart douchebag. Happy day!
In that case, I'm a douchebag too. I'm more than sure everyone has tried sniping auctions before, whether it be here on CAG, eBay, or any other auction site. And to end all of this awesome arguing and name-calling on my part, I would like to congratulate Neiname on winning all that stuff.

Again, the site is called fucking CHEAP ASS GAMER. CHEAP Ass Gamer. Why not save a few extra dollars to bid on another item? I wanted Rule of Rose, but I wouldn't bid $20 on just it, I would bid $15 on it and $5 on something else. The lowball sales were for getting rid of a bunch of items for however cheap people wanted to bid on em.

Here's the thing: I wholly expected to be outbid on everything I bid on, it's an AUCTION. It'd be nice if it was ebay style and it would automatically bid up to a point for you, but we don't have that feature here.

The thing is, he said what he said, but it's not as though he himself bid to the maximum value he was willing to go. You claim the worth of the Bushido Blade games, yet you still bid in the same ballpark as the rest of us. Everyone's looking for a deal. Again, I didn't mind the snipe at all if it weren't for the fact that it was practically "mystery" snipes, no one knows what they were outbid on without fast ctrl+tab (within the same browser, thank you Opera) action.

wow a lot of back and forth.
people may be cheapasses but why not bid your max the first time around and that way you can decide towards the end if you wanted to bid higher or see where it stands. I did that in Strell's lowball, I did that in Handsome_rakshas lowball and you know what? i didnt feel bad if i got sniped at the end because i had already bid my max early on. i was about to snipe a couple things here but it seems it went over my head a bit earlier so i didnt but this sale had some good stuff too.
exactly my sentiments. instead of being a cheapass put your max bid, then neiname might not have outbid you...
Except that he didn't put his maxbid in, either. Some of the games he used as examples for how people were being too cheap were ones that he ended up trying to put second bids on because he was outbid after his initial submission.

Oh well, though. There's a douchebag in every class.
his point is that if the other guy was willing to put in a bid of what they're worth he wouldn't have sniped them, but because he was cheap and didn't he lost out.
Which defeats the whole purpose of a lowball. It'd be the same as going out to the store or ebay if everyone was supposed to bid market price.

I don't know what I find more sad, the fact that you think that we are pissed that he tried to snipe or that you're too stupid to see what we are angry about.

There is a difference between sniping and removing the names from all the items he was bidding on to confuse and make people spend precious time looking them up and having the auction end without them being able to snipe back.
In that case, I'm a douchebag too. I'm more than sure everyone has tried sniping auctions before, whether it be here on CAG, eBay, or any other auction site. I don't see how it's that difficult to see the distinction between just placing a giant snipe bid and doing so while also removing all the game titles (hell, in his original post he forgot to put FFIII at all).

In the first, he's just a sniper, everyone hates it but its expected. But to deliberately remove the names so people have no chance to counter-bid is what people are more upset about. I think justifiably so. I don't mind putting down $7 more on FFIII, but that doesn't make what he did any less unsavory. He did it, it's not against the rules, people are now entitled to their opinion.

Here's the biggest problem though..... Where was he the other seven days and however many hours? BV said it, I'll back it up... He had seven + days to bid and get what he wanted, but in the end he waited until like 7:56 or whatever to bid on what he wanted. And, I could be wrong, but I bet most of his bids are for $.50....
his point is that if the other guy was willing to put in a bid of what they're worth he wouldn't have sniped them, but because he was cheap and didn't he lost out.
I know I said this in a previous post, but I'm still claiming B.S. on his 'point', since he didn't follow it either.
he did put his max $6 and $7 bid on them... he didn't want to pay what they're worth either because its "CHEAP ass gamer", but thought they were worth more than the other guy did.
And in the the sprit of an AUCTION I put down what I also thought they were worth, past what he did. Then he attempted to snipe another slight increment, though it was too late at that point.
he did put his max $6 and $7 bid on them... he didn't want to pay what they're worth either because its "CHEAP ass gamer", but thought they were worth more than the other guy did.
WTF is wrong with you? Go away. You're contradicting yourself.

Vulgarism - bidding early in an auction is the worst thing to do, because that makes the price go up more than bidding in the end because people have more time to bid higher. that is valid here and on ebay and it makes sense what he did.

PlayableMoogle - explain? i'm confused by what you mean.

Anyone willing to defend what he did is just looking to be contrary for the sake of arguing. Not one person has advocated his bids not be allowed, he did what he did, it's fine.

But I've dealt with many wonderful CAGs and I know that even though we're all Cheap Asses, most of the people I've met on here would NOT do what he did. He's entitled to do it, but we're entitled to our opinion about it.

He was just saying that according to neiname's logic, you need to post however much you are willing to bid from the get go. So if you're going to point that out to anyone, point it out to neiname.
he did put his max $6 and $7 bid on them... he didn't want to pay what they're worth either because its "CHEAP ass gamer", but thought they were worth more than the other guy did.
You're not getting me. He bid on those games. According to his "point", he'd have put the maximum amounts on them that he'd be willing to spend the FIRST time he bid on them, right?

No.

He was outbid, and then tried to slip in higher bids on those games after being outbid.

He wasn't above bidding less than his max, either.

What's my point? He had no point. He tried to justify his tactics with B.S.. And his tactics were fair play, yes. But why not go to eBay for that? I'm going to guess the prices are about the same within a dollar or two, and why bother trying to slap a whole bunch of people in the face by hiding behind a cloak while they're trying to be honest and straight-forward? Where's the benefit?

So you're saying everybody should just save their bids for the last hours? I've won many items because I've bid low on the first or second day, and I've lost some. That's just how it is, but most of the time... I've lost the items with more than seven minutes left...

Also, I really don't remember this much shit going down with Phoenix's lowball, the Child's Play lowball, Ultimate Lowball, any of Handsome's lowball sales... Mainly, because nobody just randomly came in and shit on everybody else within the closing minutes.

Well, I didn't lose anything. But, I feel for everybody who were so close to getting their items, then out of nowhere, had to scramble to see what he bid on and possibly ended up losing their items. Thankfully, Punkmaggit ran it a little later. I appreciate he took a little extra time.

Wait wait, is this the part where all the people that are butthurt over being outbid whine? ;) I've never participated in a lowball thread.

just trying to ease some of the tension, guys.

I actually bid on Bushido Blade earlier and surprise was outbid when I checked on it around 10:30 tonight. I copied everything I wanted (that was attractively priced) over to word in the order I wanted it, followed the bids and placed my bid. Maybe I should've put the titles in but unfortunatley that's not what I did.
It's amazing how much this is bothering me regardless of not losing to it. o_O
I didn't even come close to losing anything, and it bugs the hell out of me my friend.

Aww, Mis0, that is why I love you. Trying to make everyone move on and be happy. *hug* Trade me stuff. :D

now is a good time for a mod to lock this and make punkmaggit redo this lowball..

damn it!! freaking shadow heart (I need the disc only game)!!! GAHHHHHHHHHH

If you had "copied everything" you wanted, it would have included the names.

Just fucking walk away with whatever you won with your tail between your legs, you made a lot of enemy's tonight.

Live with what you did. *shrug*

I choose not to believe that not including the titles was an accidental oversight. If others choose to believe it, that's on them.

On a separate, lighter note, we haven't heard from punkmaggit in a while, and the poor chap has all but been forgotten while he's undoubtedly trying to dechiper which of neiname's numbers and bids correspond to which of his items!

Punkmaggit, this is the first of these things I've participated in or paid attention to, and I think you did a quality job. I liked the clearly-laid-out rules, the obvious, diligent work you did with keeping things up-to-date, and I'm coming away extremely impressed and enthusiastic about future (and on-going) lowballs, so thanks a lot. I'm looking forward to giving you some cash-money in exchange for a strategy guide to a game I've beaten a dozen times already!

Indeed. Fantastic job, punkmaggit! Enjoy tons of my money.

Damn, I forgot you changed the end date to tonight. I was going to outbid on a few items. Ah well.

Also, why is everyone getting butt hurt over sniping? Not his fault you don't know the item numbers ahead of time. Sniping is kind of expected in any auction.

Punkmaggit did do a great job with keeping everything updated and making this (mostly) lighthearted and fun. Enjoy buying Isla Nublar with your insane amounts of cash! Hopefully you'll give me a discount on my first visit to the park!

Even though it was an asshole move, you got to admit it was clever. It may have confused other people counter-biding him. I'm just stating my opinion and low balls are a great way to pick up games even though I only placed a bid on one item. :)

tl;dr.

But I did decipher it to be "I'm a douchebag and deserve to be shot in the face" if that's what you meant...

Anyway, enough of my time has been wasted with this moron already.

OP, just wanted to thank you for an enjoyable first time lowball experience. I had a lot of fun reading what other people in this thread have been posting, etc. I really like the kind of community we have going here, except for the once-in-awhile scum.. (see above).

Thanks again OP and good luck with everything!

So, whos the idiot here? The guy who mockingly quotes you, or the guy who fails to understand the situation?

That's what I thought. :)

Goodnight CAG

I am thoroughly confused about all of the whining about somebody posting last minute bids.

1. If you wanted an item, put your maximum on the item up front. That way you can ensure you tried your hardest. People who are complaining about "sniping" are simply complaining that they didn't get an item for as low as their last bid.

2. The whining about his lack of a presence in a thread prior to the close of the auction is a non-issue. He put the maximum of what he wanted to spend well before the deadline.

3. If you're worried about sniping, the end date is clearly posted. Bookmark the thread, update regularly. There was a good what? 7 minutes before the close of the lowball auction.

Id hate to see you all rant about trying to buy games on ebay. Last time I tried to buy something on ebay, I got outsniped by about .25 in the last 3 seconds. There is absolutely nothing wrong with what he did, and anybody who tries to attack it is just whining for the sake of whining... and is clearly ignoring that the auctioneer/lowball holder also has an interest in receiving the most for his items as possible. If it takes a final ten minute (previously absent bidder) for him to receive it... and for people to realize that they need to FOLLOW THROUGH

In regards to how neiname handled it, I figured there'd be a couple of people who would come along at the last minute and try and snipe up everything. Hence, I deliberately closed it a few minutes after 8:00 to give people a second chance and bid again. Reiniku got in just in the nick of time and I was pleasantly pleased to see bvharris get the FFIII he's been defending all week.

All the items have been updated so you can see what each person has won! I'll be tallying up the totals + shipping and will update the front page as soon as that's done. Congratulations to everyone who won something and a very heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who participated. Honestly, I couldn't have guessed that it'd end this well. My wife is beyond ecstatic and we'll be able to pay off a HUGE chunk of our credit card bill. :applause:

Haha, the last 45 mins in here have been a fun read. This isn't the only time bids have been placed like that in lowballs. It sucks, but it happens, and it's up to punkmaggit to specify if something like that isn't allowed. I just keep the list of all the items I'm interested in with numbers included so things like that don't affect me. I guess everybody learned a lesson.

Besides, it's not too difficult to right click the first page and open it in a new tab to check.

I had no idea this money was going to Isla Nublar. I would've bid more.

Do you need a programmer? Does anyone have any empty cans of barbasol I could borrow?

Great lowball Punkmaggit, I hope this helps out :)

Im a bit disappointed with all of the pissing and moaning about a previously absent sniper, but really... if people wanted an item they would have been put their max up front... give it their all... because this auction is also to help the seller. Its not like there wasnt a good 7 minutes before the end and people kept an eye (or should have) on the items they REALLY wanted.

I checked it in the last five mins myself, but I couldn't muster the funds to get what I wanted.
