I've thought about it, and....I think I actually prefer shitty graphics. Maybe its not that exactly, but everytime I see something try to be photorealistic, it just turns me off. I dont know why. It just doesnt look interesting.

Nah, there are a lot of situations where that doesnt apply (where people arent present). I guess I just find the style to be uninteresting. Not a huge fan of cel shading either. I guess I like 2d sprites first and secondarily, non-photorealistic 3d models

I mean, I put up with the Shin Megami Tensei series even though its cel shaded, so in the end the style doesnt matter if I like the gameplay or the story. Blue Dragon looks really interesting after seeing some actual gameplay footage. Just the screens didnt interest me one way or another.

It may come to just quitting and going through the same 10 years of old stuff some day. I despise online gaming, and we're moving towards that too. ::sigh::
 
so thats why ive always struggled behind in OTTs... i don't have a shtick...

And I agree, online gaming fucking sucks, and is likely going to strangle innovation even further.
 
I actually dont play most fully 3d games. I HATE navigating camera angles. I didnt touch Ocarina of Time solely because of this, as shocking as that may be.

3D RPGs quite often resemble their 2d counterparts in that the camera is either static or is almost fixed.

It was a real struggle to make myself start Resident Evil 4.

The problem is they make games that are made to play online and they shortchange the single player campaign, making it too short, or just plain shitty.

Limited development resources are taken away from what would be the single player campaign to worry about online components, so its not that simple.

At the current time, I have no intention of giving my Wii an internet connection

There aren't any online games so why would it even matter?

Also I agree that it sucks when developers shortchange either side of the coin if both are anticipated, but if they aren't then I can understand the desire to favor one over the other.

Edit: Back in my gamefaqs days we used to have a name for posters like dr mario kart and that name was troll.
 
I generally stick to a narrow range of RPGs, Classical Survival Horror and Schmups, so it doesnt affect me too much.

I do actually play FPS/shooters on the PC. I played the single player campaigns of Call of Duty, BF, HL1/2 and Quake 4. It certainly is a complaint that more often comes from the actiony genres though.

With regard to Dev resources being taken away, online components arent the first thing to my mind since I generally dont touch the genres its a problem in - I normally think about fighting games like Soul Calibur and Tekken, and those extra modes like Devil Within and how broken the actual core game is and I wonder if they wouldve been able to fix Steve for example, if they hadnt been working on the extras.
