If I want to get a game on release day, where is the best place to accomplish this?

Do I order from amazon and pick release day? How reliable is that?
Do I pre-order from a particular store?
Do I stroll into any ole' store and pick up the game?

What has been the most reliable method for you for getting your games on their release day?

Amazon release day delivery has been great for me. It is usually waiting for me as I get home from work and often they give $10 or $20 credit for pre-ordering.

Amazon's hit-or-miss since not every game has release day shipping and if it does, it rarely arrives before the evening for me. In an extreme example, I pre-order Bit.Trip Saga and it took a week after launch for it to ship, so definitely avoid them for the smaller/rarer games.

Amazon for big games.
GameStop for small games.

Just to clarify, the Bit.Trip Saga didn't have release date delivery, right?

I've had 100% success with Amazon's Release Date Delivery, and they tend to ship on Monday for Tuesday releases. All releases in question have been "big title" games, so I'm sure they get quite a bit of inventory for release date shipments.

For big-tier titles, you should be able to go to Gamestop or Best Buy without issue. Smaller / more niche titles, you might have better luck with Gamestop. Amazon seems to stock more and more titles from a wider range, though some of the smaller ones, they may not do RDD for.
No, it was an example of why you might not want to get something from Amazon that doesn't have it.
That's what I thought you meant, but I just wanted to make sure.

I've also had success with release date delivery from Amazon.

Unfortunately, I'm closer to the end of the route, so I don't get packages until 4 or 5 PM.
Amazon's release day shipping has never failed me, although sometimes UPS doesn't arrive until 7pm or so.
This, but UPS usually hits me up around noon. :bouncy:

Amazon has failed to deliver on time (day late) the past two weeks on items with RDD for me. They offer excuses, instead of compensation or solutions so my Prime sub is done after next month. Usually they were very good about getting stuff to me on time, but lately they've been flaky (and not just for RDD).

That's been my experience lately with Amazon as well, Jodou. I went through a couple Prime trials and had they offered a 50% off deal for the first year of Prime I might've continued it, but $80 is a tad much when I only order very sporadically from Amazon.

Although within the last two weeks I made two orders from them(GTA Complete from one of their Lightning Deals for $20.99 SHIPPED, Duke Nukem Forever/inFamous from AWD). Those two orders were made two days apart(20th n 22nd) and I selected FSSS for both.

I figured by the time I had made the order on the 22nd, my order of one game from the 20th would have shipped. NOPE.

They combined all three games and mailed them out on the 23rd. They finally arrived YESTERDAY. So it took EIGHT days for one of their lightning deal games to arrive and six days for shit from AWD.

I swear they must be using Speedy Gonzalez' cousin Slowpoke Rodriguez to pack/ship/deliver these packages sent FSSS.

I mean, I don't expect the items overnight, but when I order from a company I kinda expect to see a shipping notice within 1-2 days and if sent FCM it should take no more than 3 days MAX.

Maybe Amazon is being too lenient on their warehouse workers now, ice cream and all. They need to bring out the whips again.

 You read that article too? How could you not, as I think it's been posted at least 3-4x on CAG in the last week or so.:)
