If Microsoft owns Rare, why doesn't anyone talk about the possibility of releasing GoldenEye 007 on the XBLA. Sure, it'd probably take soem work to port over (if even possible) but if they did, and added online multiplayer, I think everyone would buy it.

Online 007 would be so great. Maybe they dont want to overshadow Halo with a superior game;)

They could borrow some of the Halo engine for 007...
That would be great, but so far Rare hasnt worked out too well for MS. PD is a great game, but is shadowed by other great FPS. Conker was just kinda not filling.

Rare doesn't have rights to the James Bond IP. Activision would have give permission since they are the current license owners. Its possible, but I doubt it.

Not only that but doesn't Nintendo own the actual game? Rare was just the developer, Nintendo published.

I agree, i'm pretty sure you are correct, just like starfox...rare makes the game, nintendo owns ip

Do you still have an N64 and a copy of 007? If so, pop it in and then see if you still want a port. That game was awesome when it came out but it looks (and plays) like ass compared to modern FPS games.

Yes, I realize that by modern standards it doesnt play too well, but if they were to port it onto XBLA, they would incorporate dual analog sticks and maybe better graphics. Nostalgia would take care of the rest.

I'm glad someone said it. Some people would buy it, but nobody would want to play it anymore.

To quote Minnesota's former governor, whilst speaking with a man named "Gorilla" -

Well, it wouldn't be the first time expired license content was removed from a re-release of a game. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is Intellivision Lives removed D&D refrences from a couple of their games.

Forget Goldeneye, where the fuck is the next Banjo-Kazooie. Its been like 10 years since the first one and there have only been TWO!. Two games in 10 years. Sure there was a playable GBA extension but I'm still waiting on Banjo Threeie. It's the reason I bought a 360. Well one of em, i knew i was going to need an Xbox after I heard that M bought rare, so I figured better to get one sooner or later.

We honestly don't need any more FPSs on the 360. But there are some games I love to see come to XBLA..

Army Men: Sarges Heroes
BattleTanx
Mystic Ninja: Starring Goemen!

Any of those would be awesome updated Ports.
Screw Goldeneye, GIVE US BATTLETOADS!
I'll take either one, both of those are in my top 10 best games ever list.

Hell, I'm still waiting for the Conker sequel. Not sure why I'm waiting, as I don't think we're ever getting it.

Rare sucks.

Yes! Battle Toads! Rare REALLY needs to bring that series back.

At the beginning of the semester my friends and I sunk a shit load of time into goldeneye on a 64. IT's still extremly playable.

You fail.

And yes, Battletoads pwn.

I want Perfect Dark on XBLA damn it! It's far superior to Goldeneye and it's still my favorite overall FPS (Half-Life 2 is a close second). I still play it all the time... I'm going to go play it now.

When I was younger, I had just as much fun play Army Men:Sarge's Heroes multiplayer as I did playing Goldeneye. If you didn't like it, awesome, but that has no bearing on whether or not I'd like to see an updated version.

And yes, battletoads are fantastic.

Goldeneye would be nice, but will never come. Now, on the other hand, I want to see some kids and their dog kill some alien ants SO badly on the 360.

Oh yea, I'm not if this would mess any of the rights to Goldeneye up, but remember that the original group who did Goldeneye left Rare and made Timesplitters.

Actually, I think that the publisher only has rights to the specific game published. They don't have creative rights over the franchise.

Example: Banjo-Kazooie

Published by Nintendo, Rare now acquired by Microsoft, and the next iteration in the series will only be released on the X360, despite the fact that all of the past games were on Nintendo systems.

Nintendo has some of those "Micky Mouse copyright" kind of things where anything they simply publish is considered partially their intellectual property for an ungodly period.

If Rare put that game out, they'd probably get the smallest cut of the profits after Nintendo and Activision hoarded most of it. In Corporate America (or even Corporate Japan), nobody shares profits. That's why you've got all these stupid-ass MP3 players and portable media players that can't play shit because some asshole demands they pay out the nose for the right to use any given codec.

I am shocked this thread has gotten this far without mention of killer instinct. I'd much prefer that to anything else mentioned here. Over live.

I know RARE didn't make it but the greatest multiplayer game ever was Toy Comander for Dreamcast. I would take that game and chu chu rocket over goldeneye any day of the week on xbla.

They should probably just throw the entire Dreamcast library on XBLA. So many gems there.
I remember BATTLETOADS as beeing really fucking hard.

maybe i was just bad at games??
No no, it was soul crushing hard.

Goldeneye for the N64 was published by Nintendo, methinks. If that's not enough for it to never happen, then the fact that it would take years to make the game look like anything but ass on the 360 would do it.

Not that I don't adore the game.

I think certain game should just stay in the past, and this is one of them. While Goldeneye was one of my favorite games (THPS is #1) it just wouldn't work on the XBLA.

Even if they did come out with it on XBLA, it wouldn't have online multiplayer, and if you think it could/would take a look at Halo CE.

Probably because it has aged terribly. I popped it in for old times sake, and I would compare the experience to the first time I got kicked in the nuts.

With all the fond memories of Goldeneye, I'd say leave this one buried because reviving it would only tarnish the fame it has garnered.

As for other Rare titles, I'd love the original or a sequel to Blast Corps on XBLA and a sequel to Jet Force Gemini. I'd even like to see a new RC Pro Am on XBLA.

Banjo was good but a severely overrated collect-a-thon.

I wouldn't touch it. didn't like it on the 64, wouldn't like it on the XBLA. if they're going to port ANY old RARE game, it needs to be Killer Instinct Gold.

Bah, I'd like to see Rare do a Live Arcade NFL techmo-bowl like game. Back to basics with simple arcade style game play.

And before anyone says "But EA has......."
only an exclusive 3rd party deal with the NFL. Meaning N/S/MS could all licence their own NFL game.

I agree with this 100%, I used to play 007 for hours with my brother and some of our friends. I played it about a year ago and I dont think its a game that has aged well at all.

I always enjoy these threads. There's never an inbetween on opinions... one camp thinks the game still plays well, and the other likens it to being kicked in the nuts.

I mean... in my opinion, it's still a perfectly playable game on all levels. Controls are still solid, and the graphics are fine. The problem is that everyone has gotten used to the 'new, new, new'... no 64 game will ever look or play like Halo 3... or 2... or 1. I don't know, I still retain an appreciation for older games, and still play them regularly. Also, there are MUCH worse looking games on both the 64 and the PS1. GoldenEye has aged... and well.

Anyway, onto the 'new port' issue. First, ANYTHING they do with it will clean up the graphics. Just look at the 64 games on the VC, they look great. Sharp and clean.

Now... honest opinion... if it actually ends up somewhere, it'll be the VC. Activision would, more than likely, be easy to deal with, especially if they want Bond awareness raised, which re-releasing the game would do. I could see MS relenting... but not Nintendo. I just get the sense that Microsoft would be willing to work something out, if only to help save the now sullied name of Rare. Nintendo, as long as they have a stake in it, just wouldn't let it be released anywhere else. I guarantee it.

My two cents.
