If there was a new DS/GBA, what would you want/not want

with the DS redesign rumour floating about, I thought what people might like for them to include/discontinue. The obvious thing to do is get rid of the freind code, but thats unlikely. Ideas?

Bigger screens, keep the GBA port, bigger ABXY buttons. One friend code for all games.

For me, I would like the L and R buttons to last longer than a month, and for them to get rid of the "glossy-ness", of the lite. I would also like for them to ditch the GBA slot, as I never use it.

I would use the GBA slot if it didn't stick out like a sore thumb. Could they really not just find a way to make it fit in a half inch deeper? It's ridiculous.

Bigger screens would be nice, but wouldn't the size make some games look pixelized?

Honestly, I couldn't justify buying a DS Lite redesign unless they absolutely blow me away.

GBA games don't stick out half a inch.
Able to map L/R buttons to Y/X when I'm playing GBA games.
Wifi enabled pichochat.
Download game demos and store on DS.
Scratch resistant screen.
Maybe lighter and longer battery life too (I don't have a DSlite).

That's all I can think of right now. I didn't get a DSlite because GBA games stick out so I'm hoping they fix that in the next version.

an analog stick so itd be easier to play mario 64 ds and pull off all the moves.
nes classic games collections or a nintendo brand way to load up games and music to your ds .

They did, it's called the DS.
Screens that one can use in daylight.

yeah, the original DS had an option to toggle the light off to see well in sunlight, I'd like to see that in a DS lite..

They'd need to be higher resolution too. The GBA and DS games wouldn't look that great due to their lower resolution (though GBA games don't look too bad on a Gameboy Player and that's obviously bigger and higher resolution) but new games could look much better on a bigger, higher resolution screen.

I personally can't even play games on any portables other than the PSP anymore due to their tiny screen sizes.

I want to see the cartrige slots all gone (except maybe an SD slot or other nonpropritary). I am fully ready for Digital distribution. I want a super portable (read SMALL) system, with onboard storage so I can take all (or at least a significant portion) of my games with it with no hassle.

I want a GB Micro (or "DS Micro") where I can buy the games and store them on the system.

I prefer PSP's alternative. I have physical copies of all my games, but (using custom firmware) I can have a bunch of games on my 4GB memory stick at all times. Obviously if DS had this you could carry a hell of a lot of games because none of them are larger than 256MB (and most are 64MB or less).

I really hope they don't make it too much smaller or thinner. I'm not a big guy by any means (5'7") and have normal sized hands and I find the Lite cramps my hands a bit.

And use better quality speakers- the regular DS had great speakers and the DSL's speakers suck. Also, can we get a volume knob instead of a slider?

I say keep the GBA slot and most importantly... WPA support, PLEASE!

Yeah, but I don't want to have to hack the system. I could if I cared to, I have no doubt. I've thought about getting a PSP to hack, but it's not worth my trouble. I have enough backlog as it is!

Really though, this is the holy grail of portable gaming, IMHO. DD is probably not mainstream enough yet, but you could offer the option of DD or media that loads the game onto your system's internal memory. You'd need a system like the current Virtual Console where you redownload at anytime, but that's not too tough, they're doing it now.

Just get the R4. You wont have to do anything to your system
I see no foul in getting a rom card if you are going to be honest and are only using games you own/ homebrew.
I would agree. However, simplicity is much more important to me than it was just a few months ago (babies do that...). I don't want to have to dig up ROMs from less than reputible sites, and get ahold of a flash card for the DS. Give my my "Flashboy" with an online store already!

How bout nintendo actually get shit right the first godamn time and not having to go through 50 redesigns i mean wtf look at the gba or reg game boy

gb-gb color-gb pocket

gba-gba sp- gba sp bright screen-gba micro

what could these morons possibly do now after the ds lite that should have been in the system to begin with

ive heard and read alot about those but ive also heard theres alot of R4 fakes floating around. sucks because id like to get one so i can play nes games on my ds as well as music. but you cant really ask about them here because of the whole possibility of bootlegging ds games with one.

Well, remember: those handhelds were released over the course of almost 18 years. That's all the way from the last two years of the NES generation (The Genesis came out that same year, but the SNES came out in '91) to almost the beginning of this current generation.

Nintendo didn't screw up every time they made a handheld; they did the best job they could with the technology available at the time. When the original GB came out, it was pretty much the first fully-featured handheld game console on the market at the time. They couldn't have released the GBC in 1989, because the technology required to run a color screen off AA batteries with a decent battery life was simply nonexistant. When the GBA came out in 2000, there was no way they could have made the handheld as small as the GB Micro.

Nintendo isn't just repeatedly ripping people off; they're staying with the times.

well i can understand the gameboy keeping up but im not gonna let them slide with their current gen i mean original gba not having a backlite when the gamegear released almost 5 years before it had it and the ds going into this"lite" phase is bs

maybe you should be reminded that nintendo isn't the only company that does revisions to their handhelds? Every company has done, so don't bitch about it.

Try 7-8 years. The Gamegear was around since the early 90s. I owned both and I preferred the gamegear more then the gameboy because of the better D-pad and far superior graphics. Too bad Sega gave up on it. It actually DID put up a decent fight against the Gameboy. Unlike the Lynx which bombed like one year after it was made.

mind telling me what other handhelds have had a revision and im only talking about relevant handhelds psp slim just came out and thus doesnt count

renique, I dont know what your bitching about. You have the choice to buy them, and if you dont like them, dont buy them
Bigger/better screen.
Better speakers (worst thing about ds imo)

Video/audio out.
I thought the speakers were really good when I heard them the first time. I still do. I don't think video out on a GBA/DS is a great idea. I could understand playing movies via PSP onto TV, but cables comming out of the GBA or DS seems clunky.

That being said...Nintendo might just do it... ;)

That aside, this is your first official warning renique45 (from me, at least) to knock off the trolling. You don't like Nintendo or it's consoles, that's fine with everyone here. But do not come into these threads with the sole purpose of bashing them and derailing the conversations.

SL4IN, Paco, mega n00bzer, mcelfour and everyone else: Renique has shown themselves not to be interested in a reasonable conversation, and is clearly coming in to bait everyone and derail this thread. Do not feed the troll.

If they or others continue to make further troll-like posts, do us all a favor and do not reply, do not call renique out, but use the REPORT POST button. If you’re intimidated by it, go ahead and put in the report that I told y’all to report when Renique started trolling again. That goes for this thread, that goes for any thread. Rather than getting into spitting matches with members who have nothing productive to add, let us know of the problem so we can weed out those who are trying to bring our boards down.
