I'm bored, let's talk fighters 15th Anniversary Collection!
Super Dragonball Z looks fun, but I may wait for reviews on that one.

also can anyone recommend any good lesser known fighters? import-wise for the PS2? is Rumble Fish any good?
I was sorta on the fence about Rumble Fish, but from what I hear, there's some somewhat major balance issues in that game. I heard that Rumble Fish 2 alleviated those problems though, but that's only in arcades right now.

When that and FOTNS come out on the PS2... it will be a beautiful day.

I love rumble fish, and would play it if I had a modded ps2 like a whore... Rumble fish is probably the closest I've felt confortable with a 2d fighter.

After playing hours of it on campus, I can say it is broken a bit. Some characters are either spam friendly or high damage. And I as well have heard RF2 has fixed a ton of the old problems.

oh and yay! more famitsu stuff on Card Fighters! looks great, and falcoon's art isn't as insane and looks great!
http://ds.qj.net/Famitsu-917-Scans-...-Starfox-Command-Card-Fighter/pg/49/aid/58494

now we need a translation... looks like you rub certain cards you get to find out what they are...?
i played rumble fish
i was not a fan of the crazy moon jumping
On of the reasons why I like it so much is the floor combos that are possible. Plus, the attacks in the game are the most original I've seen in a 2d fighter ever.

 Korea for the win >_<
Rumble fish 2 is meh. I've played it at the arcade some time ago. Game is hella slow too
I personally favor the pace. It's a nice change up to the rappid stuff that a majority of 2d fighters are...

oh, and everyone should be sure to check out the Godhand website:
http://www.cloverstudio.co.jp/godhand/main.html

be sure to play the minigame while in secret mode, and unlock "God Mouse!"

oh, and markman, how do you do the Raven Split move at the end of this video?

^^ That Raven move is done by inputting:

Do d+1+2 repeatedly until Raven's voice/grunt changes then quickly end the input like this...

d+1+2~b,f,u,d+3+4

wow... geeze. I'm still surprised at the stuff I keep laerning in Tekken 5. heck, it took me close to a year to hear about Jack-5's anti-Devil Jin laser healer.

Jacks have had the anti Laser thing since Tekken 2 :)

There is a lot of stuff in the game that's not written in strat guides/books or even online.

I urge you to check out Catlord's complete Tekken movelist. It has pretty much everything. Let me see if I can find it:

EDIT: here it is - http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com/tekken5/faq/gen-move-01.txt

Oh yea about Tekken 2/3, my friends and I were playing that the other day. Good old fun.

P. Jack :)

on a note about P.Jack... he was a total last minute character by the looks of him in Tekken 1

I got my fliptop in the mail today, just a question if anyone can answer. If you choose not to thats fine :)

1. When using my standard (old) way to eject, I get a weird noise when the tray comes in and out. I didn't touch anything on the tray other than removing the cover. I am also having trouble getting the tray to come out all the way or go in all the way. Only when I try to eject it with the regular eject button.

My regular PS2 games are running fine so far. I was also able to get online with MGS 3, so that's not a problem.

Any help would be appreciated!
I figure this belongs here too... Guilty Gear in the US on PSP will apparently not feature Slash, but will feature Reload. Not the best source in the world but:

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=190191

No mention of Slash and it specifically mentions Reload... as compared to:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9f-77-1-49-en-15-judgement-70-1fi6.html

Which mentions Slash right on the cover.
Oh snap! The Japanese one is going to have Slash?!?!

I'm assuming its because #Reload came out here as a stand alone game on PSP last fall.... guess I'm buying both!

Take it off and put it back on, making sure to tighten each screw as evenly as possible. That should fix it.
and online games run fine, since they use the DNS on this disc to authenticate it. (unlike modded xboxes, which check the BIOS in the xbox, which was a big pain in the ass)
I'd recc KOF XI over NGBC. Just my 2 cents though. :)
seconded

i didn't really care for NGBC, but i LOVED KOF XI. when NGBC came out in one of the arcades here, everyone rushed to play it but within a week no one played it.

kinda like CFE.
seriously.

I'd get KOF XI instead, but I already have it. But I seriously doubt that NGBC deserves to be compared to CFE... I mean that game was fucking terrible.

markman, do you know if the street fighter tourneys at comic con are controller-provided only, or are people bringing their sticks? i seriously don't want to be carrying my joystick around all day at comic con

^^ I'll check on that for you. But I'm positive they will have controllers available there. I'm sure some people will be bringing their controls/joysticks as well.

Don't forget to check out the open gaming room while you're there!

I can't stand the game, but only because NGBC was played every day on my campus... my friends there didn't want to paly anything else really.

It's a decent game with too manny characters either too weak or too spammer friendly... also, the tag mechanics in the fighting are a little too one sided since if you lose one character during a fight, you're basicly screwed already no matter how much health you have.

 looks like I'll be getting a wristrap, though I won't use it knowing me:
http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=B190252A

also, I decided to wait on a 360. I won't be getting it as soon as I said, but I plan to eventually. I realized I was more in a hurry to get it than I should be (partially due to Dead Rising... and that's it...). The only way I would buy one immediatly is if DoAX2 was comming out this month or next. Also, I can wait for prices to drop on certain games and the fact that Tekken DR will be out around the time I was planning on getting a 360 had a large factor in choice. I'll probably have one in a few weeks later than I planned.

Did I mention in here? When you play Tekken: DR with two UMDs it lags WAY WORSE than if you gameshare(1 UMD)? Man this is upsetting that to play real VS style would be pretty much impossible without any super annoying lag.

Oh well. PS2 5.0 forever I guess.

Joe: you coming down to Comic-Con next weekend?

---

Man that Tekken wriststrap is weak. They should have just released the set they gave out at E3. Those are pretty cool actually. (Lili, Dragunov, and Jin).

Thanks. That fixed it. I still get a weird dragging noise when the drive comes out, but I think that's from the PS2 no longer having the drive cover?

I just picked up KOF: Orochi Collection today at an import shop. Having KOF 96' makes me tremendously happy, since I played this game to death pretty much my entire freshman year in high school.

Hopefully I'll be able to order KOF XI and Naruto Narutimett Hero 3 soon. :)

Can anyone recommend any good KOF sticks for the PS2?

I can understand about the UMD and Game Sharing since memory can be accessed faster than disc reading. Kind of sad actually, but oh well... at least they kept vs. :)

oh, and nice articel MM:

yeah, the tekken wristrap sucks ass. Those E3 ones are nice, but I still would prefer the Tekken 3 zippo over this wristrap.

There is the Neo Stick 2 that comes with the Orochi Collection... but you already picked up the Orochi Collection =/

Only $79.90 from Play-Asia for the game + stick, I'm kinda considering it.
any impressions on this stick?

http://cgi.ebay.com/King-of-Fighter...ryZ21188QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I haven't actually used it for gameplay, but I was checking it out at a local import shop a couple months ago. The owner let me mess around with it because I told him I was looking for arcade sticks. The stick didn't feel that great. My biggest problem were the buttons. They were really hard and it seemed like I had to put a lot of effort just to get them to go down. The stick didn't seem very sturdy either.

Roufuss. I wish I saw that sale before I dropped $50 on just the Orochi Collection today. Oh well :). Here's a review of that Neo Geo 2 stick, this guy seems to love it.
^^ hot poop.
 now that I look at it again, it looks like a pwerglove version o f an arcade stick... almost as bad as the soul calibur 2 stick...

oh, has anyone ever tried hooking up the SCII stick to an Xbox, PS2, and GC at the same time while playing each different version of SCII at the same time... would be interesting to see.

I guess I'll keep my eye on this baby then since I still havent bought one:

I just wish that stick had two larger buttons on it.. I mean, I know it would kill the "feel" of it, but like the review says, that stick is pretty much suckage for any 6 button fighter.

It's actually the same stick as the SC II Nubytech stick. Those were so bad.

But yes, the T5 stick is a good/cheap stick!

The Fry's in my area still has the game+stick for $49.99.

again to emphasise that the west gets all the best: east people don't have frys :(

mine did that too. it would go away and come back on it's own. I got rid of it by retightening it a bunch of times (and eventually getting it right just by luck.)

I dont' use the eject button on my ps2 anymore. I just open it up with the fliptop and insert the disc, then clsoe the fliptop. granted i have to reset everytime i do this, but at least ti still works.

also, on an unrelated note, metal slug 3d sucks. the cutscenes are good, and it's english dubbed, but the game feels clunky, has a confusing camera, and plays terrible.

and as for unknown fighters mentioned in the previous page, power instincts: matrimelee is a decent game with an unrelenting cheap boss.

I've yet to try super dbz, but am really looking forward to it. i've only played the first budokai game and thought it ahd promise, but never tried any of the other titles.

naruto ultimate ninja is a nice smash bros-esque type of game, but the mega powerful cut scenes really take away from the speed fo the game IMO. all in all a fun game for fans of the series, and worth at least a rental.

now a quick question, other than this game and world fighters (JP) are there any other melee type games available for the ps2?

it's not likely that i'd go to comic con =X i was supposed to celebrate my graduation with a bbq... buuuuut i might have to cancel that because i might have to look for housing in SD should i get that job.

as for ngbc vs cfe
i really do think that they're on the same level. i'm actually inclined to say i like cfe more.

there's some good fighter related stuff in this month's hardcore gamer mag (with the Wii on the cover.) there's an article about Super Battle Opera and one about Mortal Kombat 1 clones (anyone remember SURVIVAL ARTS? )

actually, I'm all done with the mag, so if anyone wants mine, PM me!

Honestly I really really like NGBC. It's nowhere close to CFE.

It's a really fun game with a decent tag system, a ton of guys, and a really varied roster. It also has awesome 'secret' tag supers.

I also don't think saying that you're at such a disadvantage when you lose a guy is a fair argument... I mean you freakin lost a character. Just because it's not like KoFXI or MvC2 (which are still very, very possible to win a match in even if you lose a guy) doesn't mean it's bad. I see comeback wins all the time. I mean, in Tekken Tag you really can't come back if you lose a character ;)

Yeah, I went ahead and bought NGBC... seems like almost all the people I talked to on other boards really liked the game and watching some more match vids convinced me.
Nope there's an actual Hardcore Gamer Magazine, reminds me a lot of GameFan.
Isn't some of the staff former GameFan writers? man... I actually miss gamefan... it was like an actual good version of Gamepro

It's pretty much the same people and design style of Gamefan, but with less microscopic print (game magazines used to be HUGE back in the day...anyone else remember those 300 page issues of EGM around the time SF2 for the Snes came out? )

There are still a ton of errors just like gamefan-- on one page, there was broken italic code all over the place

they reminded me about Tatoo Assassins, an MK clone with actual nude-alities and with worse gore. It never got released, but I guess it's on mame.
Woah. Can't believe I have overlooked this thread.

We need a VH-1 style "Where are they now?" segment for VGM.
So why was VGM banned in the first place? I always wondered and I never found out.
