I'm bored, let's talk fighters 15th Anniversary Collection!
Woah. Can't believe I have overlooked this thread.

We need a VH-1 style "Where are they now?" segment for VGM.
long time no see! :)

he's probably in juvi or dead because he talked smack to the wrong guy.

So why was VGM banned in the first place? I always wondered and I never found out.

as far as i know, he just trash talked in every thread he posted in and annoyed the hell out of the mods.
I've yet to try super dbz, but am really looking forward to it. i've only played the first budokai game and thought it ahd promise, but never tried any of the other titles.

naruto ultimate ninja is a nice smash bros-esque type of game, but the mega powerful cut scenes really take away from the speed fo the game IMO. all in all a fun game for fans of the series, and worth at least a rental.
Super DBZ was very fun to play at E3. If your main beef with the Budokai games was that it wasn't for hardcore fighting fans, Super DBZ should fit nicely. I still can't wait for BT2 and it's triple digit character list and huge story mode.

NUN has been very fun so far. I don't see why the special move cutscenes would take away from the speed of the game when you're tasked with trying to enter the button combination ASAP. The humorous cutscenes are great to watch (Rock Lee and Gai-sensei), though with enough luck you can buy them all in the store.

Budokai Tenkaichi 2 has ALOT of work to do if it's anything like BT.

What the hell is the point of triple digit characters when every single one of them play the same? I'm looking forward to Super DBZ because the characters will actually be UNIQUE, I'll take 15 unique characters over 50 clones any day of the week.

Hell, in BT Trunks w/ sword and Dabura had almost idential move lists, right down to their super move... that's just retarded.

Oh, that's it? I thought it was something truly damnable like making a move on Mrs. Cheapy or something like that and the banning was just the wrath of Cheapy D.

Well I guess your explanation's a little more plausable.

I thought BT was well-done for a new developer jumping into the series. Other than a few mishaps, like ground textures clashing with each other, japanese voices for yells and move names though the english dub was chosen, and just small stuff like that. They've done a good job in improving graphics, adding in-game transformations, and improving the game as a whole. The reason they don't play differently is because the game is more of an action-fighting game rather than a hardcore fighting game, so the only differences between them are the moves themselves, power levels, and small stuff like that. It's not made for the hardcore fighting game fan, so expecting it to be will always disappoint you.

I've played the DBZ series of games for years now... I didn't expect a hardcore fighting sim, but when all the characters share the same pallet of moves it is boring as hell, everyone is just a clone of someone else with a different costume. I'd unlock someone just to see he shares the same moves as 7 other people, so that's boring as hell.

Tenkaichi dosen't have in-game transformations, either, unless you mean Tenkaichi 2?

Just kept on being an ass bascially. I don't know why because from all accounts he was a good trader. Why he would want to jeopardize that is beyond me. I have to admit that the mods were very patient with him though and gave him every chance to get rid of his sour attitude. Honestly, he wasn't that much different from the number two CAG villain from this year's Cheapy awards.

He was a real picky trader from th few trades I had done with him, but overall we both benefited. I feel kinda bad because VGM started out as a real nice guy and then converted to a total asshole... sad really.

Yep. That pretty much nails it.

I saw a little of X-Play today and Adam Sessler was reviewing Neowave. He was ripping on the graphics saying that 2D fighters should look like Guilty Gear. I admit, the visuals could use a bump. I think if they can get them to Last Blade level that would be excellent , but Sessler fails to realize that you can't easily redo art for a 40+ roster and 2D fighting games are a niche market now.

Yeah, KOF XI thankfully looks a lot better IMO.

Actually, I'm thinking about selling off my copy of Neowave now along with KOF 2002/2003... 02's getting a rebout and 03 and Neowave probably aren't worth keeping now... unless there's some reason I should hang onto them.

excuse my lack of knowlage, but who is that barefoot girl in KoFXI? She freaks me out for some reason, possibly due to her head looking a bit oversized and animeish on such a well animated and lifelike body... weird for me though :(

Just droppin by to share some info. www.SDTEKKEN.com or www.TEKKENZAIBATSU.com for more information!

Actually made a deal with Score Ent./Epic Battles today and we'll be working with them at the tournament for some nice suprises for those who enter!
Last I heard they didn't want to settle for budget prices anymore, so it probably won't come out over here. The games could come out over here if they were priced $20 - $30, but SNK probably wants $50 per game, which dosen't fly with SCEA.
I actually think it's good though because now I don't feel guilty about blowing a shitload of money on an import.

Speaking of spending a lot of money, I think this thread has been detrimental for me in that it's making me buy more and more fighters...

...I still prefer UFS though.

11-12:45 on Saturday? Doesn't that clash with Street Fighter II’ Hyper Fighting from 12-5? How is that gonna work out? :cold:

And what's the V stand for in the poster? :D
VIOLET?

oooh, pretty flyer.... so... my cousin now thinks he's better than me in SFA3. looks like I've got some schooling to do at midnight. out of curiosity, are there any chun li or cammy players here? he always uses these two, and I want to help him out with some actual strategies for once. jsut an FYI, he's a sweeping whore. [/rant of cousin]

I didn't like Mr. Big in KOFXI. but I did enjoy Mai in this game. I sont' usually pick the high jumpers (excluding choi) but she just feels good in this title. speaking of which, choi should've been a much better secret character. I'd take choi over hotaru anyday.

I've never really had any problem with it as the characters with the same moves are generally characters that weren't in the show for all that long, so they just make cookiecutter movesets for them to throw in. It's not hard to see why movesets are similar when you have one punch/kick button and one for energy attacks, which use the d-pad and rely on current power level/transformation state.

Yeah, the third sentence refers to BT2. You just press the right analog stick in and your character transforms to the next level assuming he can. I got to play as Slug and he just gets really huge, so you can just slap the other guy around pretty easily, but you're slow as fuck. I can't wait to finally DB characters in the game since that show is pretty much perfect for a fighting game with tons of fighters

11-12:45 is just for the signups.

1 PM is the actual tournament. There's nothing we can do about the times clashing unfortunately :( !

The V stands for VGO. :)

Or Victoly.

Hahah.

But yes, the T5 stick is a good/cheap stick!

The Fry's in my area still has the game+stick for $49.99.
How does the stick fair while playing Capcom or SNK fighting games? Is it a good stick even without modding it?

I want an arcade stick that I can use for my PS2 and for my Dreamcast (I'm guessing through controller port/converters). Should I hold out for that Agetec Dreamcast stick?

[/rant of cousin]
for chun... abuse the hell out of j.lk and her sweep.

after sweep, cross up with j.lk and you get good mixup options. throw, or go into a block string. obviously, if you connect, c.mp into senretsu super...

connect with an air-to-air counterhit, and you get crouch cancel j.hks to the corner for a free dizzy.

sweep is your anti air, or you can be tricky and AA with s.lp, crouch cancel j.mp, c.hk. mm.

play A or X, V is okay because you get all the advantage of activation and a free infinite setup, but you lose quite a bit of damage off of her annoying pokes.

unless you're really anal about the quality of your stick and know the physical difference between a Sanwa button and a Hori button... the T5 stick is fine =P

So no pulling an EVO2004 where players can alternate between tournaments at the same time, eh? I guess that works only if players are in the same room, but it bogs down the tournament times.

Hmm...I had signed up online for SFII'HF, but you can guess what I'll show up for.

You guys seem to talk quite a bit about import fighters here, so I have a few questions if anyone doesn't mind answering them:

1. What are you using to play imports? I'm close to to getting a slide card/magic disc combo but some sources claim it is incompatible with a slim ps2.

2. I've been told that the slide card method of playing imports does a number on your ps2. Anyone who has used it for a few months experienced any problems? If I can get a year's worth of enjoying imports with that, I'll gladly buy another ps2 when the time comes.

1. I don't know much about modding the slim PS2's, but I think it can be done using tape... someone's gotta have more detail than that.

2. Slide card doesn't damage your PS2. I've been using it for a long time without having even the slightest problem and I haven't talked to anyone who's had a problem.

Holy shit! The d-pad on the white PSP is a huuuuge improvement! I can finally do special moves and combos in Darkstalkers! it's more like the PS2 pad, but still a bit awkward.

1. What are you using to play imports? I'm close to to getting a slide card/magic disc combo but some sources claim it is incompatible with a slim ps2.

it isn't compatible, since the slide card is used to pull out the tray and the slim is a flip top.

you can do this-- open the slim ps2, put a piece of thick foam tape on the button right above the power button, then put a piece on the other button near the back-right hinge of the lid.

that may sound vague, but you'll see what I mean when you open it. those are two sensors which make sure the lid is closed before loading a disc. If you want to keep your warranty sticker, hold a blow dryer on it for a couple minutes (loosens the glue), then slowly peel it off and put it somewhere safe (if you stick it to something else, blow dry it again before you take it off!)

let me know if you have any questions about that...

Are you joking? Fighting games are supposed to be unplayable on the PSP. So what's different about the d-pad? Does it just stick out more?

it's definitely raised. those forward + 180 forward moves still won't be too easy, but quarter circle moves (and jumping forward) are cake.

not joking at all, I totally encourage anyone who plans on getting a PSP to import a white one (if they don't fix the d-pad) :)

I use a flip-top, it's very very easy to install, but since it sounds like you have a slim ps2, then you should just do the tape method. Very very easy.
I modded my slim ps2 with a flip top. The tape method method seemed a little too ghetto
Actually, that's the sole reason I hate the slide card. Considering that it requires you to jam a piece of plastic into your PS2 and yank out the disc tray (basically fucking your PS2 in the least erotic way possible), it is truly the gettoist (sic) method possible. I halfway expect to buy my meals with foodstamps if I keep using this thing.

yeah, the tape method is actually really nice and it does the same job as a flip top. you can't even tell it's in there after you close up the system.

I don't even know who has DOA 4 anymore, but I'll probably be on tonight. I just destroyed a PS2 controller and that was my only one... so I'll prolly get a new one tomorrow. But it's the 360's chance to shine now.

we've got a tie to break...and what better time to do it when we both suck ;)

i won't be going out till around 10:30 or so (if i do go out...I got completely dehydrated today...fuckin hot out!) so I'll hop on later.

I've been thinking about getting Tobal 2.

I didn't even leave the fuckin' house today. Probably for the best since everyone's been saying it sucks outside. Tomorrow's supposed to hit 100 or some shit too... good day to enjoy indoor weather again. Maybe I'll play some Ridge Racer 6 since I still haven't opened that.

you need Breaker Pro. I used to have it, it was a pain in the ass to use, but I think it might be your only option. Check out forums.afterdawn.com -- they've got a ps2 mod forum there that's got everything.

yeah, getting blurry vision from a dehydration migraine on I-94 was not my ideal way of ending my afternoon  but the psp (and 2 hours of sleep and a couple gallons of water) made it all better!

the person I was hitting the bars with has conjunctivitis, so I'll be on doa tonight after futurama.

King of Fighters 2006 price dropped to $29.99 before release, down from $39.99... I'll probably GGC it now.

On another note, I also bought KoF Neo Blood EX 2 for GBA today, $9.98 from TRU, debating playing it (it got good reviews) or selling it.

If KoF for GBA is anything like other KoF's, they are all playable games, there usually is no either / or, since both will probably be worth owning (according to reviews for KoF GBA, mostly 80%'s).

Even if it sucks it gets more than $9.98 on Ebay, so it's win / win.

well, that's definitly true.

Gald to hear KoF2006 is cheaper... I would have still bought it at $40, but it's win/win anyway.

oh and everyone keep in mind that once TDR is released, to upload their characters to the TZ database (when Castel gets everything coded down). I want to try everyone else's ghosts. I'm expecting MM's to be the best though... hopefully I come in second >_<

My ghost sucks on PSP :(

Since the ghost only copies how you play vs the cpu, you'll see me do anti AI moves and juggles lol. I'll upload my business ghosts in a few days. :)

Right now you can just find my Ganryu ghost online. :)

So I've been playing a shitload of fighting games recently and I figured that it might be time to ditch the d-pad and start using an arcade stick. Unfortunately, I've never known how to use an arcade stick well in the arcades and I don't know anything about home arcade sticks so I do need some help deciding on what to get. So are there any relatively cheap sticks that are recommendable? I need it to work with the PS2, but it would also be nice to have it work with the Dreamcast and Xbox since I still have fighters on those systems as well. Also, what's a "Japanese style stick?"

Markman, this question is aimed somewhat directly at you.

Speaking of which, what do you guys prefer-- pad or stick? I think we may have done this one before...

I've tried many times, but can't get into arcade sticks. I never play at the arcades anymore (been like 10 times in the past 10 years) so I'm thoroughly adjusted to a pad. Plus, all the sticks I've owned have been loud and clicky! I might be able to get into them if they were quiet!

Trust me, the humidity makes the Chicago area worse :whistle2:( The whole "dry heat" thing is true... although 'zona can get freaking brutal, since there's rarely any cloud coverage. There's definitely a reason why the streets of Phoenix are practically empty all the time during the summer
