Attending is a title, not a specialty. it's like a heirarchy.
ex. med student/intern, resident, attending. an "attending" doctor is employed full-time by the hospital, can be in any department, usually ER or med/surg. a Hospitalist works only on the floors, does not do ER, surgery, OB/GYN and specializes in the growing field of issues that effect hospital inpatients. ex. nocscomial infections (aka hospital-acquired infections).
I have a MS in hospital administration and work for the health department/medical society.
