As for my topic, I'm comparing and contrasting Jake from The Sun Also Rises and Stella from A Streetcar Named Desire, specifically on how they consistently return to their abusers and how they act as mediators among their friends/family.

Wednsday and Thursday nights are where it's at for us, atleast as far as week nights go. Most of the time we do Wednsday through Sunday but I was just exausted this passed Wednsday so I didn't do anything. We just hung out and watched this movie "KIDS" last night. It's fucking insane. I wasn't sure if I was watching a movie about inner city kids or softcore porn.

Yeah, it definitely was a shocker at the time. Have you seen Gummo? it was by the same writer.

KIDS definitely sparked a sort of romanticisation of young teen heroine chic and unfortunately I knew a lot of kids who got into hard drugs, unsafe sex and basically self-destructive behavior because they liked the crash and burn attitude of the characters.

By the time I got around to seeing it (probably 4-5 years ago, well after it came out during my own adolescence), it just wasn't shocking to me. It was nothing I hadn't seen done before, and some of the behaviors meant to be shocking were so commonplace as to be pretty damn mundane.

Now, as for Harmony Korine films...Gummo still fucks with my head, and makes me wish I owned it on a non-VHS format.
