Well, they sued to have them on fries. I'm porbably going to get a double cheeseburger some fries and also eat some broccoli cheddar from home. It would be nice if I got 1 BB buck. :)
Can anyone thing of any good $40 dollar games for the TRU buy two, get one sale?

I want to get Okami (PS2), MK: Armageddon (PS2, I think) and something else...
Can I?

Tales of the Abyss
Shadow Hearts New World
Suikoden V
Onimusha 4
[strike]Bully
Marvel Ultimate Alliance[/strike]
Xenosaga III
Splinter Cell DA
DMCry GH
Destroy All HUmans 2
Lego Star Wars II
That's why this is so hard: I have Bully, I'm going to buy Marvel: Ultimate Alliance for 360 and I don't care for Final Fantasy.

I was leaning towards Contact, however... but I don't like the idea of getting a cheaper game for free -- I want more bang for my buck.
well, there's also children of mana for DS (something I'm pretty excited about) for $35, so that's a little more bang for the buck. Tales of the Abyss is also coming out for PS2, although it sounds like you don't have that much time for RPGs. Also, i noticed Far Cry: Instincts (360) is now $40. I dont see why that game isn't getting all that much attention. It'll prolly be one of the first 360 games i get

On a different note, i keep trying to start Star Ocean, but I just can't get myself to play it. The cutscenes drag out and have annoying voices and the battles suck. Why the hell was everyone raving about this game when it came out?
Problem's not with the kids, it's with the fucking parents who don't know how to raise their kids. Just one look at this article: elementary school bans tag . . . and you'll know why kids these are fucked for life. While I'd like to blame the school administrators, the reality of parents suing is far too real.
All I know is that my childhood was on the verge of all this overparenting bullshit taint, and I got out just in time.

After I left my elementary school, they get rid of all the playground equipment that was even remotely dangerous. I think my middle school banned backpacks and instituted uniforms. My high school got ID tags when I was there, but that was for two years only, and I'm sure it's worse now.

I'm sure a number of kid institutions are on the chopping block at the moment. I imagine trick or treating is almost dead, along with after school programs. Special classes for gifted/intelligent students have already been axed at lower levels, and replaced with AP courses in high school.

My school only (these days) teaches toward the TAKS test, which is so abysmally easy that I missed only one question in third grade, but due to politics, it had to be taken by my grade every year until tenth grade (originally it was just every other odd year, ending in ninth grade), where I made the same score every time. It's appallingly easy, and yet it is more of a concern to schools than the SAT.

Kids in this country are just getting f*cked (shut up Subs) at every level (really, shut up :p ). And it's because no one parents well, period. Like Ackbar said, the Baby Boomer generation is the generation of OVERREACTION, 'cuz they lived an idyllic life up until a few years ago, when 9/11 happened and oversensationalizing media started talking about kidnappings and "the dangers of Qtips" and such.

Then generation X validated all of that overreaction by being the generation of apathy, and refusing to raise their kids, attempt to enter the work force successfully, or attempt to be productive at all.

So those kids are now f*cking up and doing shit like shooting up schools and being total whores at age twelve.

Instead of being taught and told and enforced to have personal responsibility, people are constantly taught to pass the buck these days. Clergymen who molest kids get off scott free and never get punished, and those kids who grow justify any f*cked up thing they do on that (Foley, for instance) instead of taking the fall. Instead of personal restraint, you can sue McDonalds. Do badly on a test? Sue the school or teacher.

There's something to be said about hating the justice system for allowing this shit to happen as well.

It's like Lewis Black says. If we asked an 8 year old about the shit that went down at Enron and Worldcom and the like, they'd say THAT'S F*CKED UP, and they'd want to throw the assholes into jail.

Now we have juries who feel sympathy for these theives, who think they can't be held accountable, etc etc, in the face of the fact that the things those guys did will have untold of amounts of personal damage to their employees.

I don't know when the f*ck it happened, but when it became cool to not think twice about what you do AND be a conservative f*cktard who can't think for themselves, all this shit started to go down.

WHen I was a kid, I was taught to not talk to strangers, not to handle guns, not to do anything illegal or essentially mean-spirited, etc.

It's like the entire country got that idealogy brainwashed the f*ck out of them all at once, and replaced it with a desire to f*ck over as many people as they can before they die.
I hear Zelda wont be epic without voices
Zelda actually does have voice work, and has done so since back on the Game&Watch and NES days.

It's just that it's kicking ass on so many levels of frequency that it completely drowns out any chance your human ears will ever hear it.

Yes, your human ears.

I get to hear it.

....It could be better.

You wouldn't believe the bueraucratic bullshit I have to go through for my gifted program. I have parents saying there is no point to it right to my face saying that parents just want their kids in it for the label.
I get hand-me downs from the regular classroom. I don't get funding for textbooks like every other department. I have 3 first graders because the adminstratation feels it's more important that the 1st graders stay in the regular classroom than come to me so they won't screen them for giftedness. All my 1st graders were screened through an outside psychologist that the parents had to pay for.
I can't stand when parents say to me they don't see the point of gifted classroom. It pisses me off and since I was in gifted as a child it is one big slap in the face to me.
I hear Zelda wont be epic without voices
I'm not saying, "OMG, every game needs voiceovers or it's a POS."

The last game I completed was Okami, no voices (in any kind of human language). But it was an amazing game.

Could it have been better with voice acting? Yes, if the VAs had talent, it would only add to the immersion.

You saying that you hope you can turn the VA off before even hearing it (because all the others before X were mute), is just pretentious bullshit.

And I'm glad there is no option to turn it off. Maybe you won't play it and miss out on a great game because of some predetermined shit in your brain that says all games must play like they were made in 1989.

Nothing wrong with having options. I'm not saying it should be forced mute for everyone. People can do as they wish.

Voice Acting actually robs me of immersion because I have this thing called imagination that I employ when reading text.

If anyone has the ability to make a request on Oink and wants to request "The Skatalites - Ball of Fire" Album for me, I would greatly appreciate it :D. Thanks in advance.

hmm... was gonna order some used books off of amazon marketplace, and now the used games are looking mighty tempting...

$10 for Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (all the games are for PS2)
$9 for Gun
$12 for Indigo Prophecy
$8 for Darkwatch...

but i can only buy one. decisions... decisions... decisions... (also, its $3.50 w/ shipping per game)

It's odd that at another forum, we're almost talking about the same thing re: kids, so I'mma post my reponse there to (you can ignore it if you want of course). It's applicable for the most part:

First of all, that last video you linked to isn't Columbine. It's a movie called "Zero Day," as can be seen in the comments of the video. It was made as a way to show what it might have been like during the shooting. It is fake in every way.

That all said, it is a very disturbing video indeed, despite being fictional. It really does highlight how cold and calculated and intensly harrowing that day could have been.

(For the record, I read up on lots of things about Columbine a few weeks ago. ... I don't know why I did either).

Secondly, the problem with everything you are saying is that "well they were treated so badly and driven to that."

No they weren't, and the second you say that, you are victimizing them and, in a very small way, giving them tiny (although weak) justification. 'Cuz if they hadn't died that day and went to trial, their defense lawyers would have fired that out at every second - "These boys underwent trauma for years from their cruel mistreatement by their peers." I'm sure they'd have tried (and maybe have gotten off with) an insanity plea.

That said, what drove them was anger. Pure anger and hatred. And that is the problem here - they couldn't handle their own anger. Their journals were just publically released, and in them, they talk about hating the world and how "Hitler had a final solution, but it wasn't big enough. Our final solution is to KILL HUMANITY."

Note the KILL HUMANITY, which they wrought in large capitals. (You can look this up if you want.)

They were disturbed far beyond hating their school mates, and if they had thought it through, I'm sure they would have planned something much worse.

Tell me, do you know what really was meant to happen at Columbine? Originally they were going to level half the school with propane bombs (sorry Hank), killing hundreds instantly, and then walk around after the ensuring chaos and pick people off. But the bombs didn't go off, so they went in commando style. Again, their journals confirm all of this, citing "we want to outdo Oklahoma City [bombing]."

What does that say to you? Does it say a few insults from the football team (another interesting side note - research suggests they weren't nearly as mistreated as the media reported, and weren't members of the Trenchcoat Mafia) suddenly make you hate humanity?

No, you hate humanity because you are fucked up.

How you reach that state of fucked up is questionable, but I highly doubt it is purely from the snotnosed beasts any nerd deals with on a regular day, and subsequently feels sorry for in their career and adult life, when those same assholes end up washing your car for a living.

That isn't to say those kids weren't depressed and miserable. They obviously were. But above all else, they were angry, and they apparently thought they had few outlets for sanctuary and rescue.

But they did, and that's the problem entirely.

It's a simple equation here - angry kids. They just were pent up and frustrated and riding an angsty hardon all the way to their suicides.

Look, I hated high school as well. Had few friends and didn't see much of a way out. But at no point in my mind did it ever occur to me that maybe I ought to take care of business at the end of an illegally obtained and illegally modified rifle.

Instead I had to find other solutions, however good or bad they were, but I found them, and they were more than adequate.

What Klebold and Harris manifest is not a backlash against schools, it's a backlash against things like anger and unchecked rage. It's the same thing that makes a guy get out of his car and rush hour and splatter some brains.

Here's the deal - this shit is insane and I have no idea why it is going on right now. But it is not because of mopey teenages being picked on. It's for a lot of other levels of mental disturbedness, and unfortunately there's very little you can do to change or fix that unless you catch it early.

At the least, Columbine woke a few people the fuck up out of this idyllic 1950's Leave it to Beaver bullshit they thought school days are. But we're not in that bullshit situation anymore.

I don't know what the answer is here, but it is not telling people to be nice to everyone, 'cuz there's always going to be some batshit insane fucker who is going to want to hurt and kill people for no reason, and will use anything to ignite that dangerously short fuse. Even if everyone was nice to everyone and we lived in Neverland, there'd still be a Captain Hook.

So I don't know the answer. But I do know that these school shootings aren't the product of someone being called a $$$$$$ all the time, and I know the answer is a far more elusive prospect than some quick fix reactions.

You say to stop the hatred? That's the answer.

But guess where that comes from?

Within.

Personal side note I'll include here and not on the other forum, but I've had these sorts of talks with my gf quite a bit. She knows that I more or less was depressed for the last 10 years of my life (before dating her) and that I still have slips back into that method of thinking. And she also knows high school was terribly cruel to me and that I slumped through a period of misery that would have sent a lot of people over the edge (into alcohol, drugs, crime, total apathy, etc etc etc etc, as a way to escape reality forever).

Her response - regarding that these kids were just angry and that anger is a terrible emotion - is one I brandish quite frequently these days. It's a wholly logical and incredibly profound understanding of the human condition.

My own addition to her theory is that anger is so terrible and scary because it is the one true pure emotion. You can be sad or happy for a variety of reasons, but you really only get angry for one reason, and in that state, you want to cause as much discomfort to as many people around you as you can.

This is probably why when I get angry, I tend to just be alone and play video games for a long time until I cool.

Anyway, back to reality.

I wish more people knew how to keep cool and not let stupid shit bother them.

My life before college was incredibly cruel and depressing, but I didn't let that affect me.

I went and saw The Prestige earlier. It was a pretty good movie. I loved Christian Bale was awesome. It was cool when toward the end you can figure out some of the secrets. It was a good Saturday time killer.

Can't wait till later this week when hopefully my friends wanna go see The Prestige. I've been waiting forever to see this movie. Good to know it's pretty good.

Only go if you like the music. I went strictly for the Wii, and even though it was fun to see it, play with it, and reafirm my willingness to campout, the cost and the music (that I hated) really brought the night down.

I left early though, during Emery, who would have been the only band I wanted to see, but I had already witnessed enough Wii for the night.

The Sleeping and Plain White T's were terrible.

Damn. I could care less about any of the music, and if it's that influential on the whole experience, than I guess I'll sit it out. Plus, it's on Oct31, the day I HAVE TO GET FINAL FANTASY XII.

HAVE TO GET.

I noticed today that my eb is doing a midnight release for that game. I'm excited for that game and all but not that excited. Not to mention the 31 is a weekday meaning I have to go to work the next morning.

Ditch work to play FFXII? That's a little extreme don't you think? Besides, I don't think I'll even start playing it until the weekend. I want to be able to devote a good chunk of time to it without any distractions.

So The Blood Brothers sounded pretty good there. The guy that sounded like a girl was a bit annoying, but the music was solid. Are all of their songs like that? I noticed it started out sorta poppy and got harder toward the end.

I need to hook up with someone and do my own series of fake mac commercials. I mean, I know there are a ton of parodies, but they're usually meh and common.

1) Commercial one, the mac is telling how good it is, and the PC is being shy and loveable. Until he snaps and starts beating the face in of the mac. the commercial ends with blood being splattered on the white back ground.

2) Commercial where mac explains it has intel inside and it now does windows. The PC asks how is that possible. Then the mac gestures off screen. The camera pans over, and there's the mac giving it to the pc in a homosecually suggestive position. The camera pans back the the =two standing there, and the PC guy gives this repulsive double take while the mac guys seems especially happy.

Out of curiousity, has anyone ever tripped on DXM? Just straight DXM obviously. Me and the room mate decided to get a bottle a little bit ago, and just finished a bottle of Vicks 44. Made damn sure that all that was in it was dextromethorphine though. According to my body weight, the one bottle should give me a decent level 1 plateau...as he put it.

Sands of Time is such an awesome game. I just got through the fight where you had to
kill your zombie father
. I must have died a dozen times. It's too bad I have to stop playing now. My wavebird is getting a bit laggy. I'll need to go buy some batteries tomorrow.

I just found out the refurbed onkyo system I bought last week is messed up. Now I have to go through the hassle of contacting them and asking for a replacement. I think it's worth the extra money to buy big items at a B&M store in case stuff like this happens.... Stupid refurb. "Fully tested" my ass...
