In case you need a reminder-- never order used games from EB or gamestop.com
Damn, and I've been tempted to order MvC2 on Xbox from their site. I guess I'll just hope for a certain site to get a cheap used copy again.

......and when did this GS start selling this game for $79.99 on ps2?
Right before they gave out the 25% off coupon.
First off I will say the 2 disc's were flawless I got lucky on that, but he gave me a GH copy of DMC and for some reason there was scotch tape around the hole in the center of the Okage disc?

No point in the tape because I peeled it all off and there was nothing wrong with the disc (if anyone knows why someone may have done that it would be great).
I think I may have the answer as to WHY there was tape on the disc. If the person who traded in the game had an older PS2, they may have been following some really stupid advice I've seen posted online repeatedly.

Basically, people who get DRE's on discs that look mint are often times told to put scotch tape on it all around the center hole(in a square pattern usually) and that that will 'balance' the disc in the PS2 much better and cause it to run on a DRE prone PS2.

What many don't realize though, is that simply opening and cleaning the damned PS2(not using an air dusting can, which would just blow the dust around inside the confined spaces of the dvd drive on the PS2)and it's lens will negate ANY DRE's people have had with their systems.

Although, in some cases the laser is so far gone that it requires replacement, which still costs a third of the price of a new system, which is what many people will just buy rather than searching the web to find out how to replace their own parts and not get soaked for $75 from Sony to ship it in for repairs.

Hope this explains the scotch tape thing, as I've seen it on even used rental copies from Blockbuster. I guess the last person to rent it put some tape or even the seal strip from another game on the top of the disc.

And this is why I always buy from Gamecrazy. It's a smaller franchise so you get more for trade-ins and its less of taking advantage of customers. I got $22 store credit for my 360 version of Tony Hawk's Project 8 which I got for $18 off of eBay. Gamestop/EB currently gives you like $9.

I've also never had trouble with any of their employees. I'm cool with so many of them at my 2 local stores. Everytime I've bought a used game from Gamecrazy they actually check the disc and see if its the best one for you.

Did it one time... this was back when ZEB and GS were seperate... EB was awesome, no problems... ONE time I tried ordering from GS... a copy of SC:pT which arrived complete with the original splinter cell game, and my transformers came in a crappy cardboard sleeve

At least FYE wont let people get away with crappy trade ins or stolen games

But unfortunately, as many have said already(myself included) zman, they also have games priced higher than most other stores. But again, you pay for the quality you usually get from them, though I have heard of a few getting scratched up games/dvds from them, so definitely still check your discs when buying from them.

aside from the higher trade in values and the refurbishing machine, it's basically the same store. as for selection and employees, that's the luck of the draw.

God must love me or something, because I got MvC2 for PS2 from gamestop online, and I got a mint disc, complete with case and manual. The case was a bit shabby, but I wasn't about to complain. :)

Same here except the case was great too - and it was *only* 59.99 a few months ago

Grabbed a minty xbox version from Gamers (local chain) for 49.99 recently...

I think the real question is in America why are so many used games in horrible condition without their box/case and instructions when in Japan most used games are complete and in nearly new condition?

because we're fat and eat McDonalds. and we don't have enough hentai.

Because over there, if you want to trade in a game it MUST be complete & in excellent condition, so that's all you see for sale. Plus retailers don't put hundreds of annoying stickers on their boxes. The only games I saw loose were cart games like SNES & N64. Probably because the cardboard boxes get damaged easily.

My plankton arrived today. Cart only (though they gave me one of those generic EB Games sleeves inside a busted-ass old DS case). No big deal. I'm going to return it to my local GS and put the amount down on Guitar Hero 80's Ed, since I think I only have $5 on it now.

Oh well, it was fun to try, anyway.

I paid like $30 for my complete flawless copy of MvC2 years ago. I should also, have a disk only game somewhere in Indiana(thats where I last saw it). For Capcom vs SNK 2 on the PS2 I got it for about $18, now its up at $30. Also, how come the U.S never got the PS2 version of SvC Chaos? I like playing these 2D fighting games.

Cause SCEA says: "Either bundle it with more games or lower the price", Brand new 2D fighters in Japan most of the time retail for $50 - $60 at launch, but if we're patient and wait 2-3 years we can get the same game for a quarter of the price, and that's if they find it profitable to release it over here. SCEA figures nobody's gonna pay $50 for some old 32-bit looking game. The X-Box is more lax with their titles and don't seem to mind the fact that it's a 2D fighter, as long as people can play online. In the long run it's good that we get it cheap, but bad that we have to wait so damn long.

Anyways this is way off topic, sorry :whistle2:#
