The Indie/Limited/Obscure Physical Release Thread

Physical media may not be as popular as it was in years past, but that has not stopped it from finding success in more niche areas of the market. In fact, we're seeing so many physical releases, these days, that it has become difficult for even dedicated collectors to keep up with all of them. Many games, usually indie titles, are seeing releases with highly limited prints, regional exclusivity, retailer exclusivity or are simply appearing with little notification. The purpose of this thread is to identify, catalogue, discuss and post deals for these releases, in hopes of making information more accessible and supporting the medium.

FAQ

Q: tl;dr

A: There are probably games that were released physically that you don't know about. Find them here.

Q: What is the "master list"?

A: The master list is a catalogue of all the games that have been identified here that meet certain criteria that differentiates them from standard, mainstream releases. It offers information regarding regional exclusivity, retailer exclusivity, print quantities and more.

Q: What are the criteria? How do you decide which games make the list?

A: For the most part, these will be "smaller" titles that were originally released as digital-only but have been given a physical release. Some exceptions may apply, like if an indie game launches with a physical release, it will likely be listed. Another exception would see a larger title that was only released digitally, for whatever reason, get a limited physical release (example: if Limited Run Games did a print of Fatal Frame V.)

Generally if a game is, as the title says, indie, limited or obscure and has a physical release, you'll see in on the "master list."

Also, the game must be region-free or NTSC-U and in English (subtitles are valid).

Q: Region free or NTSC-U? Doesn't that mean the list is only valid for North American users?

A: This means that every game on the list will be playable on North American consoles, though a few games may have versions that are region-locked on a certain console (this will be noted). Most games are now region free, so if you aren't from the NTSC-U region, it's very likely that the game will work for you. Knowledge of which systems do and don't have region-locking should allow anyone to make use of this list.

Q: What about games for collectors who aren't in the NTSC-U (North American) region or own consoles that can play region-locked games?

A: There may be a separate tab for you guys down the line. One step at a time.

I'm pissed. Bought the PS4 version not that long ago, but would rather have had a Switch version.. and not interested on double-dipping on this one. Why not release these both side by side, or at least let us know that hey there's a Switch version coming up? Unless they did and I just missed it somewhere..? Anyway, totally not buying any more of their PS4 releases.
Normally when some thing like this happens, you have to do your own homework and make the best choice you can at the time. So if I would prefer a certain title on a different system, first you need to search and see if there are any possible rumors or actual dates for a different system.

Normally in this situation, you'll always get fans asking on social media if a game is likely on a different system, and if it's been confirmed, you'll also get others asking about physical. The shooter for the Vita that LRG just offered on Friday was a title like that, as I guess it was a known Vita title, but no physical was announced. But thru social media, it was hinted at that it would happen later, so I waited.

I agree, that laying your cards on the table would be best out the gate, but it's apparent, that's not how most of these places operate. So then you have to do your own work, and try to make the best choice possible based on the info at hand.

You could just resell your copy and buy the Switch version. You might be out a few bucks, but it's not that big a deal, imo.

Can someone help me with how to do an add on for project sense? I read in the comments that you can do the base, $5 pledge, then add on $25 for a physical copy. I don't see the option for an add on, though. Has anyone else figured this out?

I was reading about this on reddit earlier today. If you go to the updates page on Kickstarter they say that anyone who’s pledged the minimum $53 or whatever will be able to put in the survey that they want a physical copy. My details may be fuzzy but it’s all spelled out in the update on ks.

When you click pledge, there should be a "Pledge Amount" option. Just input the amount you want + the add on amount.

Example:

Pledge $5

Physical Copy + $25 + $5 S&H

So the total will be $35

You should be sent an email on what you would like to do with the remaining balance.

Sure but selling also takes time. Listing, shipping, etc.. something I have very little of these days. Hardly getting a single day off from work this month or next.

Dimension Drive (Switch) is supposed to be up for sale at Play-Asia in a little under 10 minutes.   The LE with soundtrack and art book is limited to 3000 copies.

Uggh, Dimension Drive is supposed to have free shipping yet they are charging $9.00 shipping to my order.

Screw that.

If you promise something, deliver on it Play-Asia!!!!!

Me too. And after hearing all the horror stories here about PA's customer service, I think I'll wait to see if it get fixed rather than placing an order and hoping to get the shipping charge dropped later.

That's what I have decided to do as well, especially since they announced there would be no refunds.

If I miss it it might be for the best because then I won't feel the need to continue to buy their LEs.

Got my order in. Wouldn’t double dip for Switch unless it’s something I really want to play again but I want to see how the PA releases shake out without missing the first run. Don’t forget mypsvita and nindeal still work to save $3.

I’m still waffling on X-Morph too. Is it worth the pickup?

Snagged one around 11. I paid for Economy shipping; totally forgot about the free shipping. Glad they’re aware of the issue and will be fixing it.

Just placed an order for $31.99 total after the code which is pretty impressive for what you get.
Me too. Usually I skip all CEs in an effort to save money, but an extra $10 for an art book and a soundtrack was too good to pass up.

Are Play Asia shipments not trackable? I thought in the past, they were trackable for delivery but now, when I put in the tracking into USPS, it says it's not trackable.

I have never tracked my Play Asia orders but I am annoyed by one thing. They always seem to be delivered on Fridays while I'm at work and need a signature. So I'm supposed to pick up the package on Saturday but I work the three hours they are open that morning. I always have to wait till Monday to get my shipments. This has happened the last three orders.

They are, but only up until it reaches the US(customs), and then it stops. So normally, you can see it moving in Asia, and one last scan when it gets here and that's it. USPS doesn't take over here, so no way to track past a certain point. Now that may have changed, but that was the accurate as of a few months ago when I last check tracking on an order.

They do offer full tracking, but only for the express options I believe?

Yeah, my current postman hasn't had me sign for one yet, but my old postman did for every order. I just got Reverie in the mail today, and it was in my box with the rest of my mail.

Play Asia shipments used to be statewide tracked but the contract for that expired years ago

Thanks, that explains it. I could have sword that they had tracking in the past without having to pay any extra.

Annoying because my PO often doesn't bother to leave the little notices about a package being held for postage due or for signature. I went to pick up a package last week and they gave me a package from April.

Yeah, that's a no no on many levels, and you should contact the floor supervisor at your local post office about that. Now of course, he may suck, which in turn is why your postman sucks. But if he won't address the issue properly, contact your city/state's Postmaster about it. As an issue like that should never happen more than once, and if it does, it's now a pattern, which I'm sure will happen all the time without some form of complaint.

Many years ago, when I lived in a different city, I was having major issues with my post office. The most unforgivable is that the little old mail postwoman apparently had hulk hogan arms because she was CRAMMING things in the mailbox. I discussed this with the post master and it cleared up all problems. It's definitely worth a try.

Got my LE copy of Reverie for the Vita as well and it's making me feel a bit guilty.. I mean it's such a nicely done package and yet priced so reasonably that I feel like a thief.

Yeah, I know right? And on top of all that, we get $3 off each order. Can't beat that! LOL

That too. And I actually had one of those $5 coupons from a previous order, making it all the cheaper (and the guilt trip run deeper).
and dont forget free shipping especially from overseas. i also bought Dimension Drive LE from there. cant go wrong for a switch game, CD, and artbook. especially if u count Switch tax. $32 shipped. but then again. both Reverie and Dimension Drive costs $13 digitally.

Speaking of $5 coupons, I did not get one with my Reverie package. Did PA just forget for my package, or have they stopped doing that? I am guessing/hoping that it is the first option.

Glad to see some of you getting your copies of Reverie - I'm still waiting to receive mine but I'm guessing it will come any day.

Also, got a shipping notice this morning from Play-Asia for my Rainbow Skies LEs that were paid for and preordered why back on March 1st.

My copy of Reverie is at my local post office ready for pick up. I will be getting it today.

My copy of Rainbow Skies vita standard edition is shipping. Got the shipping notice this morning.

Skipped the LE on this because of the price.
