How can they have over 2000kb/s!? I have $70 a month for a download rate of 512k and an upload rate of 128k. These people must be loaded.

But you live in Texas, 1 open beverage container and 3 shotguns per vehicle. Someone tries to break into anything you own, on your property, you are ALLOWED to shoot them.

I might have sick interweb speed, but the cost of living in my deeply egconomically depressed area sucks teh dog's deke.

$70 for that kind of speed? I feel sorry for you, that really sucks. I pay, I believe $40 a month for 10kbps down / 2kbps up. This is what I got:

Specs (if you want to know):

New Macbook Pro 17" Hi-Res

Wireless N built-in card on macbook pro

D-Link DGL-4500 Wireless G Gaming Router (set on 5ghz frequency due to less, well actually no interference because no one has anything 5ghz for miles near where I live).

Get no lag on xbox live with my brother on xbox live, and both downloading on bittorent. Gotta love gamefuel engine. (http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=643&#DGL-4500)

The only thing that I hate is that our town is "suppose" to have FiOS but still don't have it in our neightborhood cause we don't have towers, everything is underground. Bah, dammit.

*FYI* Brother is on xbox live and bittorent atm, probably could get a little higher if he was off.

Go look up OC-3072 and prepare to crap your pants. I'd give my first born for speeds like that.

Nice speeds. I want FIOS bad, but I'll never get it unless I move to a city. But I'll take slower speeds and have my house surrounded by trees and corn fields instead of cars, trucks, and buildings.

We pay $40 a month, which isn't too bad for this speed. This is our wireless speed and it's pretty close to what they advertise. I wonder how well a wired connection would work.

EDIT* I did it again, same laptop, and got better results.

None too shabby.

It doesn't really help that I have yet to see a server that lets me download at this speed, although I can usually host Xbox Live games with no issue.

Fios is the way to go if you dont have a non-chain source. There are some companies that have 40 down connections for $45 a month. I've been on the 15/2 $45/month Fios plan for over a year and ive clocked it as high as 25/5.

They installed FIOS in my neighborhood months ago but still haven't turned it on or allowed us to subscribe. This thread makes me very sad :(
Is this really possible?
Try it again at a different time to day. I usually ignore speed tests during idle times (late night, early morning) and try them during busy times as those are more realistic of what you'll actually experience.

Easily.

Hell, Verizon's FiOS is 35 mb down, 5 mb up, and they're releasing a 20/20 line.

And yet, the connection sucks the almighty dong. It has to have something to do with how my father has things setup in the routing department. Best ping I've seen on a CS server here was 230ms.
Easily.

Except... Comcast is cable. And cable maxes out around 25MB/s which makes it even more impressive.

I pay 100$ total for time warner digital cable (all basic) and Road runner.
Not sure how much of the 100$ is for internet ... probably about 45$

just last month it was a MUCH slower 5000 DL and 350ish UP...
they just upgraded my speed without notice... im definitely happy tho :)
Read 'em and weep, fellas:

Don't even pay for my internet...its included in my rent.
lol

$40/mo... but no cap on bandwidth and torrents (not yet on the latter anyways) :D

*drools* I was reading that the japanese have 100/X connections for as low as $50 a month. I wish america would catch on.

xp home

xp pro

hmmm

Fios is getting slower and slower every month... they *claim* there are no problems with the line... fuck THEM.

$10/month

This is on a wireless connection. My hard-wired PC is generally a bit faster. I may run a test on that later.
How do you pull off $10 mo. for Comcast?

If anyone would host a server for me...I'd be so thankful :D

I would, but with an upload rate of 128kb/s , that site isn't going to last long ;)

Being an employee does have its benefits.

I could get the 6mbps tier for free, but I pay the additional $10 a month for the additional download speed (8mbps) and to double my upload speed. Being I have a bunch of computers on the same router and internet connection it's worth the extra money for more bandwidth.

This is on my hard-wired computer. The only other device online right now is my brother's 360 but I don't know how much of an impact that would have.

So I officially hate AT&T DSL, but thats the only internet that I can get where I live. Even still, they are fucking me on the speed I pay for. Gotta call them ASAP!

***EDIT***
Called them and got a little better speeds after a few line tests and them doing some stuff on their end..

now that I think about it, I have noticed that my 360 has been hogging my bandwidth ever since it was connected to the network.

Is there any program out there that can tell you how much bandwidth each computer/device attached to your network is taking?
