This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions.


Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

Important Notes:

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.

6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.

7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

11. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

I think I just started a game with him. Anyone else unable to use chat within the "with friends" games? I used to be able to, but for the past few days it gives me an error every time I try to send a message.

RE isn't awful, I'd pay a dollar for it but not too much more then that.

Yeah, I hate SFIV on the iPhone. I don't think the controls work on the iOS but i'm no expert with fighting games.
 
This is going back a few posts, but is still relevant: Real Racing 2, on ipod/iphone has excellent tilt controls, really spot on. It has on screen controls too, but I didn't bother cos the tilt is so good.

They posted about that on twitter or facebook or somewhere. They are working on it.

SFIV is fun. In fact, for me at least, it is infinitely better then SSFIV for the Xbox, which I find pretty much unplayable due to the crazy, and to me seemingly pointless, controller gymnastics required. The iPhone game is a lot more fun for me as a result. It's easy to play and fun. I'm not too concerned about online play, though, as I know I'd just get killed and it would rapidly lose its appeal, so I'm happy with the original.

The Hyundai Veloster iOS app released over the weekend is pretty awesome as well. I'd go as far to say that the physics feels more realistic than in Real Racing. I highly recommend it, especially since it's free!

Yeah, thanks for the great heads-up on the Superbrothers deals, Vegan. I was waiting for a deal on the game (iPad), but the soundtrack was an unexpected surprise (which I bought - great stuff!).

Looks like the iPad version is actually universal, so I will be picking that one up.

Any difference between the two for iPhone users?
 
Awesome, been waiting on a price drop for Sword & Sworcery. Grabbed the iPhone version - looking forward to playing it (sadly, wont' be for a few days, probably.)
 
Superbrothers Sword & Sworcery EP just got discounted to $1.99. I haven't played it yet but it may peoples favorite game for Ipad

Glad someone made a tread on this since it's only a 1 day deal, I hope people will buy this game now.
The digital soundtrack is also sale with a "Pay what you can" type of deal.
 
Already have Sword & Sworcery but bought the soundtrack because it is pay-what-you-want. Though I ended up spending MORE because I plunked down $10 instead of the $7.99 they usually charge. Not a bad thing though!
 
I had the iPhone version on my watch list since its release waiting for the $1 price point only to see now that the iPad version is universal. Is there any real difference between the two? I could buy the iPhone version now and wait till the universal one drops to $1 but then that likes paying $2 for the universal now anyway.

Just bought the album after listening to the first few seconds of a track. Well worth $1. Thanks!

To clarify, is the only difference with the $0.99 version of S&S that it's iPhone-only? The "Micro" in the title kind of freaks me out.

Yeah, as far as I know both versions are identical in content and presentation, just scaled down for the iPhone.

I'm not even sure it's scaled down, both versions are the same size. I bought the universal version and I'm noticing certain things are fuzzy looking. I'm not even sure it's retina. Whatever, I'm sure it's still worth more than the $2 I spent.
 
For those to bought it, is S&S really worth it? From the reviews I've read, it seems like those point-and-click adventure games, albeit with an awesome presentation.
 
Just completed the first act of Sworcery. Man, if it actually HAS quality tucked away, it is really slow-playing it. Hopefully it picks up but it's only a $1. Wouldn't be the first overrated $1 game I've bought.

Noticed this by accident but the name your own price for the soundtrack WILL accept zero. It will wipe away the payment options and just ask for an email to link the download.
 
Coin Drop! is awesome! Definitely pick that up while it's free. It's a great game. If you liked Peggle, you will like it, but it isn't Peggle at all. Very different mechanics and style.

it's only a dollar go for it i don't really like click and point adventure games, but this game has a lot of visual flair plus you get to fight enemies in a way that reminds me of pokemon plus the music is amazing :D

Coin Drop is just "OK." Very close to no skill required. Reminds me of slot machines, really. You just start them and hope for the best...
