Now with Wiki Editable Goodness!!

This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions.

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

ITUNES GIFT CARD SALES
Gamestop: 6/8 to 6/14, $25 iTunes gift card for $20

Important Notes:

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.

6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.

7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

11. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Thanks for the heads up. Was waiting for RR2HD to drop again.
Flight Control HD on sale from 4.99 to 0.99

Thanks for the the update. Picked FC HD even though i have a love/hate relationship with the iphone version.

Also, found Fly Control HD was free when i searched for flight control. Haven't played it yet, but free is free:lol:

EDIT: forgot to mention that Atomix app has their 3rd issue out now (finally) and it is FREE. Good time to give it a try as they seem to have fixed the slow download speeds. At least the 3rd issue didn't take anywhere as long as what i remember from the previous issues

Creatures & Castles is the new main FAAD game.
"Arcade-puzzle game in which you help a young treasure hunter steal vast quantities of treasure from a medieval castle. Trace a path of magical footprints for the treasure hunter to follow and set them on their way to safety, avoiding traps and the treasure guards. The less magic you use guiding the treasure hunter, the higher your score."

Orbital Defender Full
is the current OpenFeint FGOTD.
"Our Solar System is in danger. Your task is to protect it at any cost. Try it and you will find it highly addictive...
What makes Orbital Defender special is its unique tap-flick-drag-based control system. You can use various weapons by slightly different gestures. The result is a highly playable and fun shoot 'em up."

Jet Fighter Ace
is being featured by Great App a Day.
"Jet Fighter Ace:
1. Fight deadly battles in the sky against other players.
2. Upgrade and customize your ship with cool weapons and armor.
3. Help your Faction destroy the enemy!"
You know when you've played too much 1-bit ninja when you scroll too far down on a web page and think "might as well keep going since I can't go back"
No joke, this just happened to me.

I checked the OP to make sure this was okay to post, but if not I apologize and feel free to take it down.

I received a $15 iTunes GC and was hoping to trade it for Microsoft Points or some XBLA game or content. There is nowhere to really post this besides in my own trade thread and figured everyone here could use iTunes cash.

PM me if you have anything to offer.

On a more related note, my kid sister (13 yrs) just got an iPod touch and has been looking for good apps/games, any suggestions?

Was looking forward to some Carcassone while on vacation. The latest "update" now causes it to crash at start-up on my iPad 2. What is it with that game? I had non-stop problems with the XBLA version too.

Trading thread is your best bet.

Sorry, I have no recommendations for a teenage girl lol

Thanks
I haven't noticed any slowdown in RR2 on my iPad 1. It does look better on an iPad 2 (my brother has one).

Perhaps try the hidden puzzle games? Check out the wiki on the first page for a list of games.

Also, not a game, but I noticed that the Angry Video Game Nerd has an app out for $1.99. It's great if you want to watch any of the website content on the ipad since you can't view the videos directly from his site on an ipad.

Donut Games has three titles for FREE right now, including a couple of fairly recent releases:
Cave Bowling
"Striiiiike!
Warp back in time and join our forefathers in an exciting PHYSICS game of Cave Bowling!
Simply set aim with your finger to send the bowling ball flying through rocky landscapes filled with crazy obstacles and prehistoric animals."

Icy Escort
"Oh no! A great snowstorm has scattered the penguins all across ANTARCTICA!
Join Mother Penguin in this frosty PLATFORM ADVENTURE as she trots around the icy continent, regathering all her lost baby penguins.
Enjoy levels packed with bonus items, puzzles, ice cream cones and "cool" power-ups!"

Paracute
"It's time to go parachuting, Teddy style!
Jump down the rocky caves of Fuzzy Land and aim for the fluffy pillow at the bottom of each cave, all while collecting hearts and avoiding to snap the chute.
But beware! Rumours have it that these caves are full of Electro-Cuties, angry blobs or other wierd, crazy cave creatures. But those are just rumours... right???"

Nick and Adult swim had all their apps on sale. Not sure if they're still on sale but I would point her in that direction.

I'd try the sims games and maybe diner dash (or one of the similar ones) along with some of the more popular ones (fruit ninja, angry birds, tiny wings, etc.)

If she likes those restaurant games on Facebook, she can play Restaurant Story. While the game essentially makes money off people spending real $ to buy in-game gems to purchase virtual contents, the game is still very enjoyable given you have patience to continue making in-game gold to buy various items instead of gems.

I'm having no problems. Man I have had fun playing that game. Worth the 9.99 and then some it costs.

Just a few off the top of my head:

Lego Harry Potter
Carcassonne
Battleheart
Plants vs Zombies
Glyder and Glyder 2
Hook Champ, Hook Worlds, and Super Quick Hook
Toki Tori
Mirror's Edge

A couple of those may depend on how much of a tomboy she is but all of those are great games and as far as I recall all of them are kid friendly.

Anyone recommend any great threads like this one where people post deals on non-gaming apps? I love this thread, and wish it included more than games for the most part.

+1. LOVE Donut Games. Rat on a Skateboard is one of my favorites!!!
+1. LOVE Donut Games. Rat on a Skateboard is one of my favorites!!!
Yep...awesome game. That's what got me hooked. I love their graphics too. There's something endearingly cartoony about them.

Love Donut Gamezzz. Simple but fun games for the iPhone/iPod Touch with a trademark graphical style. I've gotten like 15 free games from them so far.

My 8-year-old and I have been having a blast tearing up the Cave Bowling "lanes." I highly recommend snagging at least one of the Donuts while they're available for free if you're at all interested in quality casual gaming. If you're still looking for more freebies, maybe one of these titles will interest you:

Castle Wars
is the latest main FAAD game.
"PROTECT your CASTLES and CONQUER the ENEMY! STRATEGIZE and RULE the LAND!
★★★★★
barbarians are invading ancient rome!
at every turn, the romans suffer brutal defeat.
now, they rally their troops to make a stand…"

Fruit Bomb
is also being featured by FAAD right now.
"Meet FROO. FROO is hungry. Fortunately for you he really loves fruit! Use the grenades he found nearby to get fruits from the tree! You need to hurry because winter is coming. How fast can you feed him? Reach the weight limit of 1000 in the shortest amount of days."

Speedy Biker Xtreme
is the new OpenFeint FGOTD.
"Speedy Biker is now FREE and we’ve also tricked out the app with a TRACK EDITOR, new obstacles, 5 new tracks, a store, and many other features. Did I mention it’s free! Why are you still reading this? Download it now!"

Sudoku by Mastersoft is being highlighted by Great App a Day.
"Unlimited "Simple" SuDokus are included with optional in-app purchase of a five extra level expansion pack (easy, medium, hard, very hard and "SuDoku Master" levels that are more difficult than the hardest SuDokus found in newspapers).
Designed with the help of over 200 SuDoku players.
Create, Solve and Analyze SuDokus.
Billions of built In genuine SuDoku puzzles!"

Hmm, beginning to remember why I don't go back and play Marathon ... not the most entertaining game out there and rather hard. Also, disappointed in deathsmiles ... No iPad version and pixelated iPhone graphics, what's up with that?
I hate to start another one of these "what does/doesn't belong in the tread" discussions, but I feel like including the Mac app store is a little much. Adding in the iPad (which I remember generating a bit of debate itself when it happened) was at least understandable because it's an iOS device like the iPhone and iPod. But adding non-iOS devices (unless the Mac can now run iOS apps?) really seems to me like it's diluting the thread too much.
I agree mac app store does Not belong
Can I get the field runners HD app free from Amazon and somehow put it on my ipad 2?
No, you can not install an Android app on an iOS device. For real?
King of fighters i-0002 is out for $7.99 if anyone is interested. I'll wait for a $.99 price drop on this one.
Surprised to see good reviews for this game with the only other game out by this developer being Metal Slug Touch, which is terrible. I agree at waiting for a $.99 price drop.
No, you can not install an Android app on an iOS device. For real?
Sorry, I did not realize it was an android app.

This. And even if their were a few here and there they'd be a lot easier to ignore than all the discussion and off topic stuff.
So glad I waited on this one, Third Blade is free for the first time!!! GET IT NOW!

Sweeeet! Thanks for the post! I also bit on Deathsmiles last night. If you're a CAVE fan or just jonesing for some horizontal-SHMUP goodness, I'd take advantage of the $4.99 intro price. Download the lite version if you really don't want to part with five bucks. I think it's a worthy addition to the CAVE lineup, though.

The Dungeon Saga HD is on sale for .99 for a limited time. I know it's a total Dungeon Raid rip-off, but I actually like playing Dungeon Saga better. I get a better sense of progression in the game than I do with Raid.
"Need to fill a boring minute, an hour or a day? Well, play "The Dungeon Saga".
Become a hero who is looking for revenge in one of the most scary dungeons ever!
It doesn’t matter if you are a casual or a pro gamer...
Play at your own pace and on the selected difficulty level.
Explore the never-ending dungeon. Gain experience, gold and develop your spells.
Learn to use your class’ power properly.
And the most important – don’t let them kill you.
Well balanced gameplay, amazing 2D graphics, an epic soundtrack... everything in “The Dungeon Saga” will make you want to come back."

Well, over at TouchArcade, people on the forums there suggested the reason was the same reason Cave gives for not including retina or iPad support on any of their titles: not enough memory. I suppose we'll know when iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad get more memory in the future.

I imagine no company'd miss the opportunity to double or triple dip? Or perhaps they'll update the apps to universal. Hard for ME to justify $5 for a game that can't/won't even go retina. If you look at the description of some of their other titles, though, they do seem to be riding the line because they actually discuss what happened if your game crashed and how you are probably out of memory...

I imagine if Apple really wants to push iPad/iPhone Airplay to AppleTV/HDMI 1080p (rumored upgrade for new version of AppleTV using newer iPhone 5 hardware) tech, they would have to boost memory to enable those 1080p apps...
