Now with Wiki Editable Goodness!!

This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions.

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

ITUNES GIFT CARD SALES
Gamestop: 6/8 to 6/14, $25 iTunes gift card for $20

Important Notes:

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.

6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.

7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

11. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Feel free to add games, genres or move titles as needed. This list is to give CAGs a chance to catch up on missed high-quality games and to get new users started on "can't miss" titles to download for their new idevice. Forgive me all if this has been mentioned already, but if it hasn't then wow... Well a couple days ago the amazing indie game, Machinarium was released for iPad 2. If you've never played this on the PC or if you have, I can't recommend this one enough. Enjoy!

http://appshopper.com/games/machinarium

P.S. Can't go wrong with PvZ given that it's currently on sale!

Edit: nvm I suck... didn't see the follow up.

Also, King of Fighters is on sale for $5 following an update. Still pricey but a $3 drop nonetheless. I'm sure we're all waiting for a $1 sale.
Always wait for the sale on an EA title. Popcap, Firemint, and Chillingo are all EA. Never buy anything new from these companies. EA will always ensure you regret it in no time at all. Especially with the holidays (Zombies and Halloween are like best buds) coming so soon...

TLDR; I think you're screwed.
Someone's on 4chan too much...

It wouldn't to contact iTunes customer support; some people here have gotten lucky. On the other hand, it's 2 bucks. How many 2 bucks have you saved over the years on CAG?
I was looking around Touch Arcade, but dident see anything. I was wondering is their a list of the Best RPG's or Dungeon Crawlers (loot oriented, not really rouge) anywhere?

The best IMO are Battleheart, Aralon, rimelands, swords & poker, and infinity blade.

Good recomendations, though I own all of those, any others?

also try Ashe, has that old school SNES rpg vibe
Hahaha waitaminute, did you just go from asking for recommendations to making them? What just happened?

I'll give Pocket Zoo HD a try. Thanks for the heads up.

Plants vs. Zombies iPad needs an update. It's been missing out on the last two big updates to the iPhone version. It use to have more stuff, now it has less. Darn. I suppose it must be in the works, but they sure are taking their sweet time.
Because it's jailbroken, which usually means they WEREN'T purchased. (Yes, I'm making a jump to conclusions.)
It's bad form to just accuse someone of downloading pirated apps just because their kids deleted some by mistake or they had 89 which is over your limit. Especially since we're in a thread all about getting low priced or even free apps.

Back on topic. Pocket Zoo HD is nice. I couldn't find that RPG Ashe that Poor2More was talking about. Is there a link?

Same question here. I tried searching and came up empty...
The PvZ sale goes nicely with the huge update it just received. 9 new minigames!
I'm glad I got PvZ when I did. The new update doesn't work on older devices (Version 3.1.3).
Because it's jailbroken, which usually means they WEREN'T purchased. (Yes, I'm making a jump to conclusions.)
That's incredibly rude and childish to throw around accusations like that.

Log[iCL] Games has released an update to their 'number find' app, Number Hunt, for iPhone and iPad and are giving away free copies of the app to anyone who send an email to [email protected] with subject "iOSApp:".

While it's not free today, they still have it for $2 which is 50% off the regular price.

My 4 and 5 year-old both LOVE this app. I'd recommend it to anyone with kiddos. It's actually a lot of fun.

Just for the record, Chateau de Moreau is a giant fricken chore. The payoff is... interesting. I suspect they are going for WHAT A TWEEST here but it looks like they are going to make me play again for a True Ending.

Which probably won't explain anything and will just end up with another tangential pile of nonsense. I really don't want to have to go through all that pointless puzzling again.

I'm just starting this. It seems good. Playing on the iPad for now. Too many games though to focus on it. How many hours is it about.

I bought Plants Vs Zombies an hour before the sale started, I asked through iTunes for a 2 dollar refund but instead got a full refund. The sale is over now so that didn't help much...I'll have to wait for the next sale I guess

Rise of Glory looks potentially cool. I prefer WWI air combat games for sure (missles shmissles). Will await impressions, though.

Also, an update for Death Rally is coming soon that will finally add online multiplayer! Woohoo! DR is a great game, even single player.

Anyone know what the best/most fun casino slots game is on iPad? The game itself doesn't have to be free, but I'm not looking for anything where you have to pay to play or whatever. Thanks for any recommendations...

Just thought I would share this. Gameloft announced on facebook that one of their games would be free later today. They haven't said what game (they posted a blurred picture of the game - seems to be a racing game) or what time it would go free. Be on the lookout!

Slingo Supreme has gone free before (99c now):

Kind of a slot-machine/bingo hybrid, wife & I like the daily challenges...
Hmm... can't download Asphalt 6 HD. Seems like they are doing some maintenance.
Yeah, it's not letting me download it either. Hopefully they fix it soon so we can get it before the freebie ends >__>

EDIT: They fixed it. Go get the Asphalt 6 HD now.
I'm just starting this. It seems good. Playing on the iPad for now. Too many games though to focus on it. How many hours is it about.
Chateau de Moreau STARTS good but it NEVER delivers on the promise.

I just 100% cleared it with all game overs/endings. Took me about five hours for a straight run through according to the game clock but who knows what that is really and then going back for more endings was a couple of extra hours.

My advice is to keep a save toward the end of each day 2-5 to go back. That eats up all four of your saves but it will let you go collect extra endings. Note that to get the "true end," you need to do the "normal end" with a certain amount of ending completion so you should be going for those dumb arbitrary game overs that come from showing people crap.

Speaking of which, you will start getting insta-game-overs from logical questions to ask come day 3. A few can be found in day 2, but the ones you're likely to hit start there. Be sure to save.

If you're collecting endings, it's good to suss out the last action you do before the dinner each day so you can save there and reload without blowing time potions, since just about every time you accuse someone "wrong" in the dinners, that's a unique ending. As well as leaving the chateau each day beyond 1 and blowing all your candles in all but one or two of the days.

It was cute but... well, I think I kinda understand what all the frustration about the LOST finale was. It was just a total let down given the premise.
I beta tested dropzap. I remember being sad that it wasn't more awesome.
I really enjoyed the original DropZap and have found DropZap 2 to be equally enjoyable. Thanks for the heads up on DropZap 2.

Thanks, great game, I bought the iPad version for $.99, it's nice to have the iPhone version too now for free. I still wish gameloft would make universal apps though.
