Now with Wiki Editable Goodness!!

This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions.

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

ITUNES GIFT CARD SALES
Gamestop: 6/8 to 6/14, $25 iTunes gift card for $20

Important Notes:

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.

6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.

7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

11. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.
Darn, I like Hothead too =/ Bummer to see them do this. If they wanted to make a free version, they should've did what Drop7 did and figure out a way so that if you bought the original game you can play the full game without ads and such on the free version.
Hothead has always showed some shady pricing tactics... I've written them off since they released kard combat.
Gamebook Adventures books 2, 3, 4, and 5 have dropped in price from $4.99 to $1.99 for a limited time, to celebrate iOS 5.

Yessss. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been waiting for these to drop for months.

Aftermath dropped to a buck again due to their (hideously overdue) update. I played it for a little bit earlier and it's pretty damn awesome. I have a feeling most of us already have it though.

I'd link but they've changed the email so I can't copy it. What's the work around now?

Just a tip for Gamebook Adventures. It's a known and purposefully unfixed trick in the dice physics engine that you can tap to roll the dice and jostle the Iphone once to sort of reroll. You have to nail it before the dice have settled but if things are coming up boxcars for the enemy or snake eyes for you, it's pretty nice and adds just enough of a skill component to the combat to make it pleasant. Do use this when rolling stats and fitness checks.

Each GA book is written by a different writer, usually, so most of them have wildly different ideas on how to structure things. Take GA2, opening with a thrilling chase and escape and then when you see FOUR IDENTICAL DOORS AHEAD OF YOU it goes straight into the typical dungeon wankery, whereas GA1 kinda blends the adventure and dungeon crawling kinda seamlessly, and the Slaves of Rema one diverges into two wildly different paths based on simple, seemingly arbitrary decisions at the start, so much so that it's almost two games in one, each with their own set of required missable items.

Generally though, much much more than the Fighting Fantasy games, these encourage exploration. They generally prefer NOT to throw you into LOL YOU TURNED LEFT GAME OVER without getting warned before that bad mojo is in this sector so you can generally stick your hand in most pits or what not. That said, there tend to be a crapload of unavoidable fitness roll or die checks so be careful.
Now that we have iOS5 and I need to do some app management, can I delete Infinity Blade on my phone so that I can update Real Racing 2 (have very little space left),then redownload Infinity Blade and not lose my progress/save? Or am I completely not understanding the cloud benefits?
You're completely not understanding how utterly stupid as hell Apple is with the app data. Probably safe to assume you will always just lose everything if you delete an app.

That sucks big time. Guess I'm gonna be looking at that "1" on RR2 for a long time.
Hey guys I have a quick question I think you can do this but I would just like to confirm.

I have a preorder in for the IPHONE 4S (I'm on a wait list) but I should be getting the phone hopefully sometime next week or the following week. This is going to be my first IPHONE. I'm excited.

I see all these great apps on sale for a limited time and I don't want to miss out on some of these games. Can I purchase these using Itunes and then sync them to my phone after I get it?

I'm pretty sure you can but I wanted to double check before I start spending money. thanks.
I downloaded about 100 iOS apps before I ever owned an iOS device.

About the only thing I have found so far that the Iphone does that respects save data is a restore from backup.

It doesn't back up your app versions though. It just reinstalls from the ones you have available, so you could try updating the app in Itunes and then restoring your phone. It'll work from top to bottom and would probably update the app as it'd have to install it from what you have and should keep the save data.

The theory makes sense in my head but I make no promises.

Alternately, you could just say "What do I care about IB's stupid infinite grind? I beat all their dumb DLC grind happy enemies. I don't have anything to prove!"

Was clearing off my desk today and found some more starbucks codes...

I have 1 Shazam left. They expire today, so 1st PM get's it.

Quarrel Deluxe is on sale for $99, down from $4.99! I snagged it. The whole "Boggle meets Risk" approach is great, though the only major downside is that there's no multiplayer. I can't see them not adding it sometime down the road, though.

So what's the word on the EA Sale? Is Scrabble, Tetris, Risk etc. worth it for a dollar? And which is the best racing game of the bunch?

For reference:
Apple is having a sale on several EA Games for iPod, iPhone & iPad. Thanks azad814

Notable Titles
Dead Space $1
The Sims 3 $1
Battlefield Bad Company 2 $1
Fight Night Champion $1
RISK $1
The Sims Medieval $1
Shift 2 Unleashed $1
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit $1
Need for Speed Undercover $1
Real Racing $1
Scrabble $1
Tetris $1
Transformers: Dark of the Moon $1
Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp $1
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 $1

From Slickdeals.

Just purchased my very first Apple product today (iPhone 4S for Verizon) and really like it so far. Still getting used to everything, but if anyone has any recommendations for apps (preferably free) that would be awesome. Also, I can't get iTunes to work on my damn PC. I tried installing Quicktime & re-installed iTunes, but nothing. Any suggestions?

I'm in the process of adding more Monster at the End of the Book codes. Put 10 in and PM a couple more to CAGs.

Also read through the first post, it's a wealth of information.

I've always been fairly pleased with the quality of EA apps on my ipad, especially for a buck. I just have scrabble, yahtzee, and tetris though - nothing actiony.

Moog Filtatron is down to $1. Not for everyone but definitely an awesome app for synth enthusiasts.

Dimsdale, I think you'll really like it.

That looks incredibly badass. A Moog in your pocket for a buck! Downloading now. Thank you, my brother!

Just got my iPhone 4S yesterday, my first real smartphone! (Had a blackberry curve before). Picked up Infinity Blade, Real Racing 2, and Dead Space!

I downloaded this yesterday too. Played with it for like an hour. It's pretty amazing. I will note that some stuff doesn't work in iOS 5 just yet, but they are going to fix it soon I'm sure.

iMaschine is very much worth the $5 if you're interested in making beats too, but this is coming from someone who spent $500 on Maschine with no regrets.
I haven't been following this thread much and I have a quick question...
Are book deals on the iBook store posted?
Not that I have seen. Though, I would say that would be a welcome addition in my book.

@ibookstore on Twitter posts ongoing specials. I haven't seen too many sales though. The last big one I remember was about 6 months ago for free Kaplan published titles.

You might want to consider Kindle books as well. The iPhone/iPad app is pretty good too, so it's not a bad way to go even if you don't have a Kindle and there's daily free and cheap books. Good site to look for these deals is http://ireaderreview.com/

Tip about that site if you're viewing on iPad (or I guess iPhone) is that their site seems to have a half-baked attempt to customize it for the iPad which doesn't work at all. Go into any article and then click "View full site" at the bottom of the page.

Awesome app, even more impressive is their new Animoog which just launched today for a dollar, normal price apparently will be $30.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/animoog/id471638724?mt=8

Already the top downloaded iPad app for today, impressive! And the sound is FANTASTIC.

Bartleby's Big Book of Buttons Volume 2 has dropped in price to a much more palatable 99 cents. Haven't tried it yet, but will give an impression once I've had time to check it out. Looks like the perfect distraction app for my oldest boy though. This is a universal app, unlike the first, which was ipad only (Also at the target 99 cent price, but has been free twice before.)

Just from hearing alot about Filtatron i downloaded it just to mess around, $.99 is a solid price for just messing around with an app.
I'm sure i can figure out everything it can do through some interesting experimentation

Beat The Traffic sputtered along and finally died. I need a new traffic app.

It needs to show me a map of the local highways with reasonably accurate traffic congestion data with, and here's the IMPORTANT part, more vibrant colors than Apple's crappy watercolor map app. I can barely see those in GOOD light.

Traffic.com does not suffice for this purpose. Bing barely suffices. Any other suggestions? My commute isn't THAT complicated but warnings of monumental cases of feminine driving (*Ducks*) would help.
