iPad 2 $50 off at Best Buy
If you're up for Jail breaking it, then get XBMC. Simple as that. Do you have a home network set up? I use my apple tv to stream my .mkv's and .avi's on the HDD connected to my router, to play in the bedroom. For $99 I think it's a solid device, especially since in the past year I've really just gone all digital.

As for the macbook costs being more than a PC sure, but I don't like it when people look at it that way black & white. It's MORE than just the hardware specs IMO. It's the entire package, and for Apple that means customer service that you can WALK into a store and get shit done. For me, this has been invaluable. I don't EVER have to sit on the phone, I set an appt online and bam, go in and speak to someone face to face. Having owned a Dell and HP this is terrific. Plus MB's all have 2x better screens than those $500 machines mentioned, and a better wireless card. Not to mention OS X, you really do pay for some of that in the premium and apparently people are willing to pay that much to have OS X. Preferences though.

I built a desktop computer for gaming, thus need Windows 7, but for my mobile platforms, Apple all the way. Although I'm eyeing the Transformer Prime =) I just wish the WiFi issues weren't there. I stream a LOT using wifi and my bedroom being a little further away I want the best performance possible.
With ICS, a lot of the WiFi issue went away.

Sorry to post so much about it, I just can't recommend this tablet enough, lol.
if you haven't put ICS on it yet, do it asap. so smooth and can watch netflix now
That's awesome. I'll keep Webos on there though. It works well enough for me. Besides I have an HTC Evo that gives me my Android fix. My courtiers tend to agree that ICS is the way to go.
Like I said earlier, I have a MacBook Pro, an iMac, an iPhone 4S, my family members all have Macs, my mom has an iPad, and I had an iPad 2.

Things I like better about the iPad 2:

-iOS, it just works. Less customizable, but very rarely do you ever have anything crash.
Yeah, a lot of the games I want have unfortunately only been released on IOS, or Ipad (the HD versions). You make a lot of interesting points in favor of Prime, though.

I'm still waiting for iPad 3. I have a Galaxy S and Nexus S and an iPhone 4....so I'm not sure who I'm going with in the Tableto realm. Andriod or Apple. Apple needs an announcement soon.
Please enlighten me. What should I be doing with it?! Other than jail breaking it.
Stop being lazy and educate yourself. Start at xbmc.org. FFS.

Why you guys/gals need so many pads? It's not like consoles, where you have exclusive titles... I do not have iPad and iPad 2, but seriously thinking about getting an iPad 3. $50 to $100 off doesn't sway me to buy a last gen tech.

I wouldn't mind a second one for my kids and my wife to use, just so they aren't asking to use mine, LOL. But probably I'll wait either for the iPad 3 or maybe not until the iPad 4, and then have an upgrade and a hand me down.

What's wrong with sharing? Those pads are designed not to be shared or something? On the computer, you can create user accounts, the pads don't have this concept? I share my Vita/DS/Xbox/Wii/PS3/PC/laptops all the time, the only thing that's tied to one account is the Vita, but I use it offline anyway. The DS/Wii don't have a "true" account concept, the rest supports multiple accounts.

I think it's important to teach kids to share, rather than being materialistic...

Uh, sharing is great, except when I am using it and they want to use it at the same time, or if I have it with me while I'm at work or otherwise out, and they are home or otherwise not where I am. So when I get an upgrade, I'll hand the iPad 2 down to them, because having two is better than one when you've got more than one person who wants to use it. Not sure why that's a hard concept to grasp, but there you go.

Anyway, iPad 3 announcement on March 7th.

No, the iPads don't have individual user accounts. It's the same operating system as the iPhone and iPod Touch, both designed for one account and shared apps.

No offense, but I'm going to guess you are not married or don't have a significant other that you'd have to share with.

My fiancee and I started out with just an iPad, but quickly learned that we'd like a second one so we weren't constantly "fighting" over it. I managed to pick up a Touchpad and put ICS on it and now we each have our own before bed, on trips, etc.

Its been this price for months at microcenter 3 months now at least and best buy price matched this for me 3 months ago no problem. So i guess now its officially $450 but i got it for $450 in dec from best buy.

So you don't do a sex for iPad deal?
$1000 for 2 gadgets is the part some of us are just trying to get over :)
Nobody said having a wife and kids was cheap. LOL. Anyway, we only have one iPad. I'm not going to buy a 2nd iPad 2. I'll either buy an iPad 3 or, perhaps more likely, wait until the iPad 4, but that depends on how the iPad 3 looks. At least you don't have to buy your apps all over again, so the "only" expense is the device itself.
Hard to say who would come out on top (or bottom).
I'm loling so hard right now!
Rumors said Ipad 3 coming in march or april...
