iPad game sales-see the new iOS combined thread

Looks like the Ice Age game that got some good reviews at the launch of the ipad is down to $2.99 from $4.99, probably pick that one up for my son.
NFS Shift for iPad dropped from $14.99 to $9.99.
I have this for iPhone and honestly the upscaling looks pretty good. I'm curious as to what advantages the iPad specific one has.
Dizzypad is fun, but it is not the complete game for free, there are three additional modes and each of those are $1.99 to unlock in-app.
i wouldn't really say its not a complete game, its the full iphone game, but they added 3 different modes as dlc: memory, 2 player battle, and a different style endurance mode. This is a very fun game, probably my favorite freebie.

Also, Bebbled is free right now from .99

It's not a sale (although for $2, I think I would consider it a deal), but I wanted to say that Roswell Fighter is a pretty damn impressive SHMUP. Very nice graphics, great sounds and music, and I think the controls work really well using the tilt controls. Haven't tried the touch controls yet.

A few other iPad games are on sale or marked down now:

Wordflick HD $9.99 --> S4.99
Resident Evil 4 $14.99 --> $9.99
Herod's Lost Tomb $4.99 --> $1.99
Heavy Gunner 3D $4.99 --> $2.99
The Iron Horse $2.99? --> $.99
Doons HD Deluxe $.99 --> FREE
Emblem HD $.99 --> FREE

I haven't downloaded any of these yet (except for the free ones), so I can't say what kind of quality the games are.

The best thing about Roswell Fighter is the graphics... the gameplay isn't quite as responsive as I like (I always use the touch controls). They do mention that there will be a big update coming this week, so I won't say too many things about it, as hopefully most of the issues will be fixed or improved. We'll see.

So far the best SHMUP is easily Espgaluda 2, and it looks and plays great scaled up on the iPad -- better than most others scaled up. I would urge anyone interested in the genre to try it out... it's a fantastic game.

The only other native iPad SHMUP so far (that I know of) is Buster Red. It's also a good game with hand drawn animated style graphics (think Alien Hominid or Castle Crashers). I think I enjoy the gameplay better than Roswell, even though the graphics aren't as pretty. The layout of iPad version is a bit weird, because the game is played horizontally -- it doesn't use the full screen like the iPhone/iTouch version. This is because you can play multiplayer on the iPad version, but they should really have a single player version too. Hopefully there will be an update to fix this in the future. I think the iPhone/iTouch version is free right now, so you can download it and compare the two versions to see for yourself.
About DizzyPad, are all the modes unlocked for $1.99 or is it $1.99 per mode? Also, any thoughts on the other modes, worth the $1.99?
each mode is 1.99- one is just memory, so unless you really enjoy that type of thing, Id pass on that one for 1.99 . One is a 2 player mode, which looks like it could be fun, but personally I would never use it. The one mode that I did buy was sliders, which I like. Instead of the pads rotating, they go back and forth. I find this mode easier than the free one and don't regret buying it. But, its not really all that different than the original, so I'd only buy it if you really like dizzypad. If for some reason you really want to collect all the frog skins, you'd have to buy all the modes, but they are just skins and don't change the game play at all.

Also, pocket creatures, a universal app, was just released for an introductory price of 2.99, it supposedly will raise to 4.99 at some point. It looks like a pet sim type game that the developer says has black and white elements to it. Its not my type of game, but its gotten a lot of pre release buzz.

added the op...word flick looks like it could be a fun word game, but I think 5 bucks is still too pricey, especially when words with friends is so awesome for cheaper. RE4 isnt supposed to be all that great. I got heavy gunner on the iphone for free and like that version.

Compression HD and CastleCraft are also both free.

I tried out Compression just for a minute... graphics seem nice enough -- it seems to be a Tetris type game. But I didn't play long enough to really form an opinion more than that.

CastleCraft is interesting, but I only played that one for about 15 minutes or so. So far it reminds me a bit of We Rule, but that may change. You build cities, lumber plants, gold mines, etc. and gain currency in "jewels". It looks like there's a social aspect to the game -- you have a mailbox and there's a chat window. But I don't know how it's incorporated yet. It's a good looking game, graphics-wise. I'm looking forward to playing around with it a bit more tonight.

I ended up getting some non-sale iPad games: Mirror's Edge ($13), Pinball HD ($3), and Minigore HD ($5).

Mirror's Edge is now my favorite game on the iPad. The gameplay, graphics, and controls all work great. I've read complaints that the game is short, but I've already spent a few hours with it and haven't reached the end. I'm guessing the people who complain that it's short aren't doing the speed runs (i.e. time trials) which add replayability (although the leaderboards aren't working yet). $13 is still a bit steep though... they should drop it to

Thanks for the helpful reviews.
If you own an iPad and like pinball, get Pinball HD. It's that simple.
Pinball HD is good (and a great bargain at $3 bucks), but just became waaaay better with the new update that gave us portrait mode:

Pinball HD update 1.3:
* whole table view in portrait mode (slide up or down your both thumbs)
* optimized performance
* multiball in Jungle Style after complete each maze level

Unfortunately, I had no idea that portrait mode was available (which was my biggest peeve) until I read how to view the mode until the dev mentioned it was done by sliding both thumbs while in game. I didn't see this in any kind of options. Changing tables is also a bit weird with sliding to the different sides, so hopefully these things are made a bit more clear in a future update. But like I said, easily worth it for any pinball fans at $3 bucks.

Way off topic, but how do I take out the enemies in Mirror's Edge? I really like the game, but cannot get past the first level that requires combat. Basically, I knock the guys down on one pass and then reach the dead end and head back the way I came only to meet a swarm of bullets and a quick death. I just got too frustrated with the game and gave up on it. What am I missing?

I think I remember that part. If you reach the dead end and head back the way you came you will come to a box or pipe underneath a vent in the ceiling. You are supposed to get on the box and jump up the vent. You have to do the same move in some of the other levels too.

There are four ways to take out enemies:

 1. Slide (press down while running)
 2. Jump kick (press in the direction you're going while jumping)
 3. Drop roll (press down before landing a jump and you'll do a roll that knocks enemies down)
 4. Disarm (press in the direction you're going while running into an enemy... this will slow you down a lot but the enemy stays down longer)

Couple games that just went on sale:

Amateur Surgeon iPad edition. I had held back on getting this for the iPhone (though I did pick up the free Christmas edition, but have yet to play it) and now it's on sale for $2.99 down from $4.99

http://appshopper.com/games/amateur-surgeon-ipad-edition

FaceFighter HD. Looks like this includes any DLC they had released for the iPhone version, and it's only 99c down from $3.99

http://appshopper.com/games/facefighter-hd-face2face

I picked up FaceFighter, and I'm debating Amateur Surgeon. I do like the Trauma Center style gameplay

Glad I waited on both amateur surgeon and geared. Also check out compression HD, very cool free tetris clone nicely updated. From the same studio also check out tanzen, which is a very fun puzzler where you organize shapes to make a picture. The lite version of that is a lot of fun.

The lite version of Tanzen HD seems to crash a lot for me, similar to some other iPad games (Glyder 2 and Pacific Defense) if I reboot the system it works again. I do not know if this is limited to the lite version, but it is pretty annoying.

Didn't have time to play it last night, but I played both the lite and christmas version on the ipod. Basically an exact rip of Trauma Center, but with an Adult Swim sense of humor. I liked Trauma Center so for me it's a buy, certainly at $3.

Played about 30 minutes of Amatuer Surgeon and I still really like it, but it is rather barebones and the gameplay can get a little repetitive. Still seems worth the $3, but not the best game out there. I really wish that you were given a rank for each surgery ala Trauma Center and I wish that the levels ended with more fanfare.

The game also crashed on my once, but this seems to be a regular occurrence with ipad specific games, the low memory on the ipad maybe its Achilles heal when it comes to gaming. either that or developers need to figure out how to dump the memory during the load up of their game to avoid crashing. A simple re-boot fixes the issue, but it is annoying mid-game.

i picked it up as well, good game for $3.

my file has letters over the characters i have completed, isn't that the rank. i don't think it says it out right, but i think its ranked.

There is an update for amateur surgeon that says it adresses memory management.

Another game called Qubix HD is free as well.

Devil Invasion, while not an ipad specific game is free today, I highly recommend this, its a twist on Puzzle Quest and plays/looks great on the ipad.

Finally, if you have kids check out Friendsheep HD, pretty fun multi-player sheep herding game, played it with my son last night for about 30 minutes and I think we will come back to it.

One more thing, Angry Birds HD does not have the content updates that the regular version has, but they are coming and the developer says soon.

Geared HD well worth the 99 cents. I bought it at $3 and it has been well worth it.

TanZen HD has dropped a little to $1.99 and that is well worth the price of admission, tons of puzzles and very clean looking.

Also, Space Station: Frontier HD is down to $1.99 for the weekend. I know there has been interest on that one on this board.

WordSlam HD appears to be free as well.

Super Monkey Ball 2 is $7.99

My guess is we will see some nice pricing over the holiday weekend and worldwide launch.
Resident Evil 4 is on sale for 4.99

Gears is on sale for .99

Picked up RE4. It controls pretty well for an iPad game. So far only played through the first level and it was enjoyable but not great. Shooting the chainsaw guy in the face with a shotgun was fun, but for the most part the combat doesn't feel like you're actually shooting anybody (and I didn't notice any blood... if there is any it is very subdued). For $5 it might be worth it for RE fans, but I wouldn't pay any higher for it.

I tried the iPhone demo of Geared. I didn't see any challenge to it... does this game get harder?

I was going to post the same reaction to space station frontier, it is very similar to biodefense but seems to be better.

Geared HD does in fact get rather difficult, later levels require you to place gears and then move already positioned gears in order to make the puzzle work. For 99 cents this game is a solid puzzler.

i ordered an i pad and i should get it tuesday. Have any of you guys tried the call of duty for the ipad? is it worth 15 bucks.

There is a lite version for the iPhone try that first, I would argue that I have yet to find an iPad game worth more than $10, but if you like the game play it may be worth it.

Babo Crash HD is free for the day, its a match 3 game with some tilt controls, received some good reviews at launch. It's OpenFeint's free app of the day.

Not a game, but Lonely Planet's 1000 Travel Experiences is free for 3 days (from an original $19.99).

I downloaded it, but didn't install it yet on my iPad because the app is 452 MB. It looks more like a digital book than an app. For free, it's worth it to browse through it once or twice and then delete it. I'm a fan of Lonely Planet.

Yeah I downloaded it and it's pretty stupid I feel bad for anyone who paid 20 bucks for it. It's basically 1000 flash cards

Babo Crash is well worth the free download. Kinda like an amped up version of Bejeweled, with some good use of motion controls and power ups.

Lonely Planet - Not worth the space, can't believe anyone spent $20 on it, guess that is why it is free now. Cool to flip through for a little bit, but each experience is limited to one photo and a paragraph of text and some stuff does not even have a photo.

The War of Eustrath HD is $3.99 right now (50% off).

Looks like a good story based tactical RPG that's recieved some pretty good reviews so far. It also seems like there's a lot of gameplay to be had. .. One person mentioned being already five hours into the game.

Oh, and as for Meteor Blitz, I picked it up... It's awesome! The graphics are amazing. It's a dual stick shooter very similar to Super Stardust on the PS3. The developer has said that there will be an update to change the controls sometime soon.

PartyPlace - Marble Mixer is on sale $4.99 --> $1.99

Looks like a game that would be fun to play with a few people. I might try it out for $2 bucks.

Peppers is also on sale for $1.99 until the next update is approved.

I bought this last night and played a few games. It's a match 3 puzzle game, but you can move entire rows horizontally and vertically to make matches. It's a nice polished game; I'm looking forward to the update.
