Since the old thread was getting too large, I made this new thread to continue.

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.

Has anyone else been having problems downloading app updates in iTunes lately? For the last few days, every time I've hit the "Download All Free Updates" button, I've gotten the error message:

We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (414).

There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.
If I try to download a single app update, I get the same message, but with the number "5002" in the parentheses instead of the "414".

Oddly, downloading new apps that I didn't previously have works just fine.

Nope, haven't come across those errors and I have downloaded quite a few apps in the past few days. Google for the error and see what all comes up.

1G = no volume buttons on side
2G = volume buttons on side, 8/16/32 GB, purchased more than 215 days ago (with exception of 8 GB as all of those are 2G no matter when purchased)
3G = volume buttons on side, 32/64 GB, purchased less than 215 days ago

Twin Blades, the anime-ish nun fights zombies game, got an update with a story mode that finally makes that $1 I paid for it not feel like a complete waste. The combat is still just as tedious as Zombieville, but the story mode progression makes it bearable. The first boss battle was actually pretty cool, to boot.

Came to announce Dark Void Zero was up.... But beaten by a few minutes. I'm not convinced on it yet, so if anyone grabs it, let us know how it is.
Dark Void Zero is FINALLY out.
Sure, I'll buy it! At $2.99, you can't really deny that it's a value compared to the $5 on the DSi.

I still had $4 in credit, so what the hell! I'll post some impressions if I play it tomorrow!

Closest I'll ever get to a Rocketeer App, so consider Dark Void Zero purchased ... I'll be sure to come back and scream warnings if it's awful, but everyone seemed to really enjoy it on the DSi, so I'm not too worried.

Steam version is also out for $5 if anyone loves Steamworks achievements. How many levels are in Dark Void Zero? I noticed iPhone has an extra ending, while the PC version has 3 others.

Dark Void Zero seems solid so far ... very retro, basically like an old school Nintendo game. The controls are decent, much better than real "old school" games, as the movement is much more flexible than the simple "up, down, left, right" of many classic games.

The jetpack adds a nice amount of flavor to the game and it doesn't appear to be limited, so you can actually fly for a decent amount of time and also hover without it being the typical 3 second gimmick jet pack. The story is actually fairly deep for this style of game, I was surprised by the initial amount of text and graphics at the beginning. Basically, it's like a mixture of NES graphics with an SNES story if that makes sense.

I've only played it for about 15 minutes but it seems solid and worth the $2.99 if you're looking for something decidedly old school but made with quality in mind. You could do alot worse for $2.99 (uhm ... Canabalt ... I'm looking at you ... though you are fun ... you are decidedly overpriced for what you offer).

HAWX finally, FINALLY, has a demo on Iphone. Have yet to try it, but FAST was trash and I hope HAWX does better. I am absolutely HARD GAY for the console version so I might be a bit biased.

Dark Void Zero is $5 on Steam but has Securom 3rd party DRM. Saved me $5 else I definitely would have double dipped. Not very far in it but seems a solid little exploration platformer.

Thanks for pointing that out... but wow that much of a DRM for a $5 game? :applause:

5 machine activation limit. Screw that. I'll just wait for them to either come to their senses or, well, you know, the FORBIDDEN WORD.

EDIT: HAWX failed to impress. How sad.

It's more than alright bird strike one of the best free casual iPhone games you'll ever see. Also, I play pocket legends on my iPad, it's decent but you have to pay to keep playing past a certain point.

Concerning Pocket Legends, at least for now the level reqs are not enforced for the dlc packs. So I was able to start playing through the Lv20-25 pack at level 13. I feel that is a much better value.

Thanks! I'm all over that version. I have it on DSiWare already and enjoy it, so the improved PC version will be nice.

Personally, I found the controls for Dark Void Zero to be terrible. The buttons are too close, and the virtual pad is too twitchy. Makes the game much harder than it should be. I'd say avoid and hope for an update.

Opera Mini is absolutely awful. I have no idea what people are seeing in it. If you stick to the pages that default in it you are probably OK, but stray outside to anything else and the rendering varies from quirky to absolutely atrocious. Moreover it doesn't really seem much faster, if at all, then the Safari browser. There is one thing it does that the Safari browser doesn't, though: spoiler tags here work properly. Of course the site looks pretty terrible, but, hey, you can hide those spoiler tags. :)
A well-received Tetris-like block puzzle called Unify is Free now.

Unify is pretty cool and has great music, just like Bit Pilot. However, I have to admit that I haven't played it that much, unlike Bit Pilot, but it's not the games fault. I just don't find tetris and its variants all that compelling. I get bored with games like that. It is a clever twist on the theme, though, and if you do like Tetris and such it's a must download. Heck, for free download it regardless and decide for yourself!

Here's your Tuesday free sites roundup:

Free App a Day has the above-mentioned Unify (http://www.freeappaday.com/app.php?day=13&month=04).

Great App a Day has Deep (http://www.greatappaday.com/details/deep/).
Free App Calendar is showing Caveman Test (http://www.freeappcalendar.com/details.php?id=84).

Druid Stones MAX (http://itunes.apple.com/app/druid-stones-max/id366243954?mt=8)

Best Tetris ever was the early Xbox and N64 version that had the ability to make solid blocks. I was tops on the XBL leader boards for nearly a year on that one. Loved it!

I'm not a huge fan of it, but keep in mind how it works. Everything you browse to is going through an Opera-operated proxy server, where the content gets compressed and optimized, which is supposed to make the transfer to your mobile device faster. I think it is ideal for low-speed links, like weak 3G signals or Edge-only signals (aka 1g iPhone). So, bearing that in mind, also consider that the simple fact that it even got approved by Apple is huge news and you can imagine that their proxy servers are taking a beating. So, that is very likely to degrade the performance. I'd suggest giving it a day or two to let the traffic level out before writing it off entirely.

Having said that, I'm not really diggin' it either, connection issues aside.

The New Tetris for the N64 is the best Tetris ever. My wife and I played the hell out of that game.

I'm having no issue with it, but I'm also used to Opera mini and micro from various older phones of mine (Sony w810i and Nokia e66, particularly). It's not going to replace Safari, by any means, but it brings a couple of nice features, and is a great alternative. I've run into a couple of things Safari had issues with before that render well in Opera, and vice versa. It's also good on my end for testing mobile sites...

opera mini is different thats for sure. ive only used it a little, but i thought it was quite a bit faster on pages. i tried to read an article off digg last night, would not load in safari. an hour or so later i had downloaded opera after browsing the app store, i went back to digg and the article loaded up quick. the smart zoom threw me off the first couple of times, that will take some getting used to.
