This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

Awesome that's a big help. I quit through the menu and found out there was no continue. If the app start back up where it left off that would be good enough for me. Thanks!
Slay is still 4.99. Really hope its drops to .99 or free its got me interested.
It still shows $4.99 in the Search, but it comes up as FREE once you select it. I went ahead and downloaded it before its status changes again.

EDIT: It's now been modified and it shows up as FREE under the search also.

A sort of claymation, side-scrolling shooter, Platypus has dropped from $4.99 to .99 (http://appshopper.com/games/platypus). There's also a lite version if you want to try before you buy.

"ON SALE! Pilot your Platypus in the squishiest shoot-em-up ever! Based on the cult Mac classic from Idigicon, Platypus is a fast, fun side-scrolling arcade shooter with a unique difference – every tree, cloud, ship, and enemy was created from modeling clay - so explosions don’t bang, they splat!

Defend peaceful Mungola from the invading Collosatropolans using only your trusty F-27 Platypus fighter plane. Shoot down the enemy ships, and collect fruit bonuses and a range of weapon power-ups to aid you in your quest!

Control your Platypus using accelerometer-based tilt, or guide your ship with your finger across 4 massive clay areas each with several challenging levels.

Platypus has a fantastic music soundtrack which is inspired by classic Commodore 64 games, and will save your progress automatically when you exit."

I am new to iPhone and I was looking at picking up Inotia 2, but I Noticed Inotia is at a "limited time only" price of $0.99. Is that price really LTO? Should I just spend the exta $4 and pick up the sequel?

Get the sequel. Skip the original at all costs.

Glu is having a sale for the holiday. Uneven pricing though, for example, Glyder is $4.99, but Glyder 2 is $.99. I guess they're hoping to monetize the app more off dlc?

I love holiday app sales haha.
Twin Blades is currently on sale for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/twin-blades/id339490898?mt=8).
Holy smoligans. That's a good one to nab for free.

Game has the same sort of mindless run-right and mash attack combat Zombieville did, but there's something satisfying about the slimy gory bisection deaths for the zombies. It ain't spectacular but it's a good ride. The newly added story mode is decent and the bosses are actually pretty fun even if the story is just a lot of zombie killing grinding.

The art is lovely, even better on Xbox 360.

Just a tip, in story, after beating the final boss, at the ending, you will have a... let's say a choice between a positive optimistic happy option or a negative unhappy option. Choose the unhappy option first as that way, the game will quit without saving and you can then go back and choose the happy option and proceed to the post-game free for all.

I chose the happy option and ended up beating the game again just to see the unhappy option. Waste of time.

The OpenFeint free game today is a nod to nostalgia with something called Shot Watch (http://itunes.apple.com/app/shot-watch/id309977689?mt=8).

"How quickly can you tap the buttons in 10 seconds?
The legendary game gadget is now an iPhone App!
OpenFeint enabled.

In 1987, Hudson Soft gave all gamers a chance to measure their button-tapping proficiency with the small yellow gadget called "Shooting Watch". It was sold over 1 million units in Japan and all gamers and kids were crazy about measuring their tapping speed and training their button mashing skills.

There are 6 modes in this "SHOOTER" application."

All the other free site offerings for today have already been posted elsewhere in this thread.

Not a freebie, but this one looks pretty interesting: Caster is on sale this Memorial Day weekend for only .99 (http://itunes.apple.com/app/caster/id314016537?mt=8). It's normally $2.99 and it's got some pretty enthusiastic reviews.

"Caster is an Intense High Speed 3rd person shooter with Explosive Effects and Massive Terrain Deformation! As a rookie Caster, you are assigned to rid the Middon region of a serious infestation of bug like creatures known as the Flanx. Complete this mission and many more adventures await you in future episodes (for FREE!).

If you like Metroid, Mega Man, Anime, Manga, or shooters in general, you absolutely MUST check out this game."

Caster HD is on sale for the same price ($.99). I believe it's the same as non-HD Caster but includes the iPad version.

Caster has a pay what you want sale on pc (that I think is still on) but I might just pick up the iPad version instead. I've heard it isn't incredibly deep and might work better portable.

Just a heads up, I picked up Caster HD for iPad today (never heard of it before) and there are a lot of framerate issues. Whenever there are multiple enemies around or when an enemy dies (and these conditions happen a lot) the framerate drops noticeably. They really nailed the controls though. It may be worth it to pick it up now while on its sale and then hopefully the devs will fix the framerate issues in a future update.

I went ahead and picked up Caster and Chain Link Pro (thanks, 107proof!) for .99 each. Now I just need to carve some time away from the in-laws so I can actually play some of this stuff. Gotta love the holidays. . .

I got Twin Blades free on the previous go around. The art and screenshots look awesome right? Well the game is terrible :( Maybe they've added some depth to the game via updates but I could literally jump to get to the end of every level. The game is totally broken, free is good but this isn't worth the time.

They've added bosses.
They've added bosses.
Maybe I'll give it another shot. Hopefully they changed the enemies too. Most beat em ups lock you into an area until you beat everything to move on. This would help this game. I could literally hold jump forward while not looking to beat every level.

Btw that glu sale includes both Glyder games for $.99 now, I must have posted when they were still updating prices.

Which Glyder do you guys recommend.

Btw Caster is pretty damn good, especially for a buck, though most of us probably already have it.

Thanks for the Twin Blades heads up, I missed it when it was free before and i didnt want to pay the 3 bucks on a whim because it looked nice. Plus I played the 360 version and it was exactly what dubbfoolio said, just run through everything. It was pretty mindless too, with the same old same old going on.

I played the first few levels of the iphone version and its fun, i like the upgrade system. My only gripe is i wish the digital dpad was bigger. I find myself jumping when i dont want to and facing the wrong way when i want to face the other way. Kind of annoying when you are in swarms of zombies and each time you F up you get grabbed and lose alot of life.

Get your virtual Rockgod on with Stevie Salas' Rockstar Solos for FREE (http://appshopper.com/music/rockstar-solos).

Stevie's stadium rock tone controlled by your fingers! See our website for videos of Stevie in action!!!

★ You're challenged to master the game while learning RIPPING RIFFS... if you can! Take what Stevie shows you and play on your guitar to blow minds!"

Twin blades and Zombie Smash my iPad knows no limit to the amount of zombie fun it can contain. Both seem good from my first few minutes with them.

awww... My iPhone died on me today wont restore, wont turn off/on, wont do crap except make a flashy paper weight.

LESSON LEARNED: Do not go to bumper carting with an iphone because it will fall out of loose side pockets and get run over causing internal hardware failure :cry:

Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior has dropped to .99 (http://itunes.apple.com/app/bruce-lee-dragon-warrior/id372377860?mt=8)! Sweeeeet! Even if I wasn't a total Brucefan, I'd be all over this for a buck. . .

"A masterpiece of the 3D martial arts genre, the game is developed using motion-capture technology and features players fighting in historical locations around the world in an attempt to become the Master of Martial Arts and honor Bruce Lee's legacy. Customizable fighting styles make Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior highly user-friendly.
In Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, the gameplay and controls are designed for casual as well as skilled gamers, and filled with high quality graphics, easy maneuverability and lively animation. It will be the first game to bear Bruce Lee's name and likeness in the iTunes App Store."

I haven't finished reading thru my latest thread updates, but in case it hasn't been mentioned, TheStuff has started a thread for Apple Gaming discussions in the General gaming & Industry News section of the CAG forums. Here is a direct link to it.

I vaguely remember getting Twin Blades for free a while back and deleting it because I was so disgusted by how awful the actual gameplay was. The graphics were slick but it was terrible.

I grabbed it again yesterday just to be sure it was the same game ... guess we'll soon see.

Yeah ... same game ... absolute garbage. It looks great but you can literally hop through the entire level and the controls are a mess in terms of the jump, attack, and change in direction. The new upgrades are unfortunately the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig because the core gameplay is still incredibly weak.
