This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.
A couple questions. First, can some one please tell me what the appeal of espgaluda is? I played the demo and it seemed fairly standard shooter fare. Is it just because the controls work well? I just don't really see it as worth 10 dollars, when I could get chinatown wars, or chaos rings for right around the same price. Also is modern combat worth 99 cents?
I only played the demo, but I see its appeal. First, you have to be down with shmups. After playing several others, Espgaluda definitely has the best, most fluid control.
Also, keep in mind the demo only is on Novice level. Bumped up to Medium, I imagine it's pretty intense.
I know I said $9 is a lot for an app, but I'm a hypocrite as I'd buy this in a second if it was a $9 PSP UMD.

Just FYI, apparently there is a flashlight app on the app store right now that has a hidden tethering application built into it. It's called Handy Light and I guess the developer posted a YouTube video showing how to activate the free tethering.

How many levels does Solomon's Keep have? I enjoyed it at the start but now it's just so dreadfully dull I just want to beat it and delete it.

Espgaluda 2 is a ripoff if you do $80 import. No shmup is worth that much, but I still love EG2 Iphone and would pay $9 for it. If you have any love for shmups, or your love for shmups has waned just because you've never learned to work Mame properly and got stuck with freeware crap, EG2 is just fantastic even at $9.

To the fellows who played the demo, it does pick up. I'd offer youtubes, but the only jackoffs who bother dropping youtubes of a game that costs $80 to import are score monkeys and nobody wants to see dicks just abusing the score mechanics even if EG2's are better than chaining shit like Ikaruga.

Nice! I'm proud to say I picked up 1942 and DVZ and a little ashamed to admit I bought 5th Grader & Millionaire because I enjoy trivia. :(

Also picked up Handy Light because this time tomorrow it'll probably be removed from the App Store.

Bought it before it got yanked. Anyway to backup apps on a PC?
What does tethering get you?
You can use your 3G with a laptop or iPad although the video is Mac specific and I haven't been able to get it to work on a Win7 machine yet, although to be honest I'm winging it.

I always find myself checking appshopper.com daily and downloading dozens of free and paid apps. I've bought over 100 apps and have easily spent over $150 in all on them. I love them. Just bought Modern Combat: Sandstorm tonight, which is on sale for 99 cents, down from 5 bucks. It's basically MW 2 in the desert. Online multiplayer and all. Woot woot!

Anyone down for a free Punch-Out app? =]

galcon and galcon labs have entirely different rulesets for different gameplay variety, and objectives. i've got them both and enjoy them. lagless online play as well :)

fazfznz: The Assassin's Creed link is botched, and the game still shows as $4.99.

Definitely picking up some Capcom goodness, though. However, I warn all to stay away from Mega Man 2. The horrible control makes it unplayable.
HAD to pick up Phoenix Wright. Loved the first one when I played it years ago. Does this one play as well as the DS ones?
It is the DS one.

I'm in for Resident Evil: Degeneration and Mega Man II. I swear these low prices on iphone games like 0.99 makes me buy apps just to try em, if only other systems would do this, this idea of having a low price but sell many units works!

After you take advantage of some of the Capcom deals, you can check out some freebies to add to your collection. Here's a free sites update for Wednesday:

Free App a Day let's *you* make the game with Tap Studio Pro (http://www.freeappaday.com/napp.php?id=267).

The OpenFeint free game today is Extreme Hangman (http://itunes.apple.com/app/extreme-hangman/id313551486?mt=8).

Great App a Day has Tap Tanks (http://www.greatappaday.com/details/tap-tanks---doodle-style-3d-rts/).

Free App Calendar is showing The Monkeys Who Tried to Catch the Moon (http://www.freeappcalendar.com/details.php?id=278).

According to appshopper, AC dropped to $1 but has already gone back to its normal price.

Crystal War is good fun for $1, especially with an endless mode update incoming

Just FYI for people that did get the Handy Light app, this site has instructions on how to get it working in Win7. I've got it working myself right now. Luckily I use Chrome mostly so I can just leave Firefox set up for tethering.

Speed on 3G tethered with Handy Light:

Well, Capcom. You win - perfect, even. With the price drop on the iPhone version of Street Fighter IV, that makes SFIV purchased on 360, PS3, PC, and iPhone... in addition to SSFIV for 360 and PS3. Damnit!
lol, wait for SSFIV Turbo
Only in our dreams... for now.

To anyone who bought NOVA, appshopper just talked about its new 1.2.1 update adding a ton of cool stuff...

The full list of the updates made to N.O.V.A is as follows:

Updated for iPhone 4 and iOS 4
New gyroscopic control mode with complete 3D range added
Crisp & gorgeous high-resolution graphics to take full advantage of the iPhone 4 Retina Display
Support for iOS 4 multitasking on compatible devices: switch between your favorite apps instantly

Also the newest skype update came out. I'm not sure if it adds video calling but it allows calls in the background and multitasking.

http://appshopper.com/social-networking/skype

What's new

Version 2.1

- Run Skype in the background with multitasking in iOS4. Receive Skype calls and IM while other apps are running or when your iPhone is locked. You can also continue your call while you switch to another application. Multitasking is available only with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

Kind of way overdue considering they presented this months earlier at the iOS4 introduction.

$3 for Phoenix Wright is so low of a price, its just wrong. Amazing game, worth more than the $30 I paid for it 6 years ago.

I managed to get HandyLight's purple screen working on my Vista Laptop and Win7 Netbook last night as well and was seeing 3mbps down x 512kbps up. Nice to not have to pay an extra $20 for tethering if I need to.
Ghost'N Goblins is on sale for $.99! 80% off sale.

I have found the controls to be extremely difficult and uncooperative.
It's been $0.99 since February...
