This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

A few EA games are on sale:

RISK : The Official Game ($4.99 -> $1.99)

http://www.appshopper.com/games/risk-the-official-game

Also, Boggle, Yahtzee Adventures, Trivial Pursuit, The Game of Life Classic Edition, Monopoly, and Monopoly Here & Now are all on sale for $0.99.

I nominate the iPad app SoundieThingy for the worst icon ever award. There are a lot of ugly app icons out there but they don't look like a used tampon.
Is Monopoly worth picking up?
I think it's pretty good for a Monopoly game. Your enjoyment is purely dependent on how much you like Monopoly.

It also can be quite time consuming, Monopoly being what it is.
Ok I don't get dodonpachi. Are you supposed to somehow not get shot? Or?

WTF am I supposed to do?
Just keep playing, I felt the same way the first few plays. There is a lot going on and it is hard to understand at first. You have 3 lives and 3 bombs associated with each ship. If you get hit by a bullet it will drop a bomb and clear all bullets on screen and reset your multiplier to zero. Once you understand what is going and how to switch between S/M mode the game gets a lot more fun.

What is "S/M" mode, and I'm not joking here. :) Want to know what you are talking about. I also find the game a bit confusing. It's also really, really hard. I've been playing the Arcade mode mostly. I like it a lot anyway, but I wish I understood the game better. I suppose a little effort would turn up a FAQ, though. :)

I really enjoyed Risk - Factions on Xbox 360. I heard there were better Risk type games on the App store than the original Risk. Anyone have suggestions?

Great App a Day has a basketball game called Alien Shooter for its featured game today (http://www.greatappaday.com/details/alien-shooter/).

"USB Disk lets you store and view documents on your iPhone and iPod. It has an amazing built in document viewer and is very easy to use, with a simple and intuitive interface, yet it contains many powerful features."

"The game introduces a new twist on the falling block and match-2 formula and comes with three different game modes — including a clever and relaxed puzzle mode and a panic mode (for those of you who enjoy more fast-paced action).

Two wacky spirit wardens, Becky & Tim, fell asleep on their watch allowing all the Spookies to escape! Spookies is really only a different word for naughty ghosts. You must help Becky & Tim to stop the Spookies from haunting innocent humans or else they will lose their jobs!"

A couple of additional FREE titles:
Hedgehogs (http://itunes.apple.com/app/hedgehogs/id311031598?mt=8).
"The Hedgehogs is one of the most original logic games created for iPhone/iPod ever.
Created directly for those who prefer sokoban, epic games etc.

More matching fun is to be had with Pirate's Mind, the latest OpenFeint Free Game of the Day feature (http://itunes.apple.com/app/pirates-mind/id386477350?mt=8#).

"Pirate's Mind is a simple game of memory with a twist. Uncover as many matching coins as you can before the timer runs out. The more coins you match at a time the greater your score. Pirate's Mind features 2 play modes, Leaderboards and achievements. Do you have the mind of a pirate?"

For iPhone 4 only, tactical flash is free right now. I don't know how often any of us will use morse code but it still could be useful.
I really enjoyed Risk - Factions on Xbox 360. I heard there were better Risk type games on the App store than the original Risk. Anyone have suggestions?
I've been playing a game called Dominion and it's pretty awesome. It has both new and old rules, as found in Factions on the 360, and you can play with up to 4 AI players. It also supports up to 5 players online with a push system that can allow games to go for days or go as fast as 5 minutes per turn. I'm really impressed with it.

There's also a game called Lux I think ... but recent reviews seem to slam the latest version.

Anyone pick up the actual Risk game? I really really like Dominion, but I'm tempted to see what Risk has to offer.

I haven't played the iPhone Risk, but I've heard it's not as good as the competitors. I've heard that, yeah, it's Risk, but it only comes with one map.
What is "S/M" mode, and I'm not joking here. :) Want to know what you are talking about. I also find the game a bit confusing. It's also really, really hard. S/M mode is specific to the iPhone version. Essentially when you allow bullets to go through your shields it will build multiplier for "M" mode. Once you cap at 1000x score multiplier you can shift back to "S" mode and getting stronger firing weapons. I personally like the iphone version more than the arcade.

Watch the tutorials as you start the game. It only takes a couple play throughs to get the hang of it.
Mirrors Edge is supposed to hit today.
I kind of assumed they were going to show mirrors edge off as a launch game for the new ipods, with retina display support.
not a sale but new spiderman game is out sooo awsome
Wow, that looks sweet. I'd totally grab it right now if I didn't know it will go on sale, as most Gameloft titles tend to do eventually. Regardless, it definitely looks like a must have.
I wonder why the new touch isnt on Amazon. Do they do pre-orders, or r they just going to start selling it when it released.
They're on Amazon now for pre-order. I'm guessing Apple held off on sending out images before the announcement so no one could have leaked it early. Hopefully they'll ship next week though.
Whats a good poker game on the itouch? prefer one where you just play against AI and dont have to keep on buying chips, like WSOP version.
You should download Card Ace, I had it on my palm pre before I switched to iPhone. It's fun and somewhat addicting. And they give you free chips every day just for opening the app. Usually I just build up a lot of chips then start playing online. There's also a singleplayer for practice.

WSOP makes you buy chips? Last I checked, you could always play the Free game at the bar or just reset your profile if you went bust. The money was always virtual winnings and not bought with real money.

Veggie Samurai Is FAAD featured free gold app today

744292.png

http://appshopper.com/games/veggie-samurai

Glad I didn't bother buying this, not only because it just went free, but because it really does seem inferior to fruit ninja. Even though fruit ninja only has 2 modes on veggie samurai's 5 or 6, the gameplay feels far more solid in fruit ninja. The simple act of slicing feels far more fluid, and comes with a good sense of weight, in comparison to veggie samurai. Also I prefer the stylized art style of fruit ninja over veggie samurai's slightly more realistic approach.

Mirror's Edge was finally released today with full retina display support. Not a deal at 5 dollars, but I'm patient, and its an EA game so you know it will go down it price sooner or later.

USB Disk Allows you to use your ipod as a jump drive, and includes a office document/pdf viewer was just released. Haven't had much chance to play around with it, but it seems like it will go to pay after its launch window.

USB Disk lets you store and view documents on your iPhone and iPod. It has an amazing built in document viewer and is very easy to use, with a simple and intuitive interface, yet it contains many powerful features. Drag and drop files in iTunes to transfer them to your iPhone / iPod, then view them anywhere!

Yet another game I've bought goes on sale... Hoggy has dropped from $0.99 to FREE! It's a great platformer. Your only move is changing the gravity so you're basically a blob that's either on the floor or on the ceiling. Very fun though and plenty of levels to keep you entertained. You can also purchase additional levels for $0.99 (The lost levels).

Ultimate Solitaire, by the same people who did Ultimate Hangman, is currently available for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/ultimate-solitaire/id364739430?mt=8).

Our natural movement system lets you play the way you like. Now with multiple backgrounds and card backs including special Christmas theme!"

Pretty much the PC version reminded me of games like Myst, just Puzzle Agent has more personality.

Does anyone know... is there a way to pay for these apps after the fact? Some of these that I've downloaded for free, I like enough to keep and I actually want to pay for them to support the developers.

Thanks for any help.
