This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.
I'm getting my iPod Touch tomorrow (4G), and I'm sure it's been asked before in the thread, but could anyone recommend some apps for me?

Here are the ones I already went and got (just from browsing the App store for a bit).

Apps

Amazon Mobile
Google Earth
Movies
Netflix
Last.FM
eBay Mobile
Pandora
Twitter
Facebook
Joystiq
Weather Channel

Games

Angry Birds
Dark Void Zero
i Sniper
Iron Man 2
Mega Man II
Peggle
Resident Evil 4

1942: First Strike
Get the G4 app. I think it's the best gaming news app of all the ones available. Great news, easy search, tons of reviews, and lots of videos, including video reviews, which is sweet! Also, the game Aftermath is pretty sweet.

WRONG: The IGN app is definitely the best ;)

The ad at the bottom of the IGN app drives me up the wall. It's easily 25% of the viewable area. I wish you could at least hide the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen when you're reading.

eh okay, I was hoping they would drop it to FREE for the release of Civ 5

Ive never even launched it. I get way too many damn games from this thread.
Robot Unicorn & all Adult Swim games are on sale. Robot Unicorn can be yours for $0.99
They've been on sale since September 1st. Bound to go back up any day now, so buy now if you're interested.

I like the IGN app as well, that's my second favorite. Both that and G4 are better than Joystiq in my opinion.
Bunch of Capcom games on sale for $0.99:

Resident Evil 4
1942: Joint Strike
Mega Man II
Dark Void Zero
Cash Cab
Cash Cab: Las Vegas
Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? 2010
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 2010

Links are all on a Capcom Unity blog post.
Thanks for the heads-up. Picked up Dark Void Zero. Wanted Mega Man II as well, but I found the controls to be VERY difficult. My finger always made me want to go left on the virtual joystick. Going right, you know, the way most side scrollers want you to go, I found to be an unpleasant chore.
Has the Civilization Revolution game ever gone FREE ? or should I just give up all hope ?
 It was free for a day, in early August. So < 2 months ago.

Thinking more about Mega Man II, does anyone have it? I keep seeing pictures of a directional pad, not just a joystick. Maybe I didn't look into the Free version well enough before I made my decision not to get the full version. Does it have a directional pad option, and it is better than the joystick option? Anyone know?

No D-pad, just the virtual joystick.

The epic space shooter Galaxy on Fire 3D has just been added as another FAAD featured freebie (http://itunes.apple.com/app/galaxy-on-fire-3d/id308333717?mt=8).

"Galaxy on Fire™ is an epic space shooter combined with a trading simulation and sci-fi RPG elements. In a huge galaxy of hundreds of planets and space stations, you take on the role of a mercenary with the Terran Armed Forces in the fight against the aggressive alien Vossk. After first demonstrating your skills doing some donkeywork, you are quickly lured to escort and combat missions. Captured goods you can use in the trading system to equip your spaceship with dozens of different weapons, shields, and drives. During the course of the story, which is accompanied by lots of dialogues and animated 3D cutscenes, you encounter shady characters over and over again, offering sometimes dubious, sometimes extremely lucrative missions. In survival mode, you must face a horde of enemy fighters and hang on as long as possible. Every enemy destroyed provides you with points and new energy, while ‘combos’ result in many more points."

Took me a second to figure out what you were even asking... but, I am able to login just fine and download apps.

I had something weird happen today, 3 apps had been purchased without my knowledge and another app that I thought had cost me 99c showed up as free (Iron Man 2)

Just turn the device sideways (landscape) and the controls change to a D-pad. I just watched my coworker playing this today. Still not a perfect solution, but leagues better than the joystick in portrait mode.

I'm 129 puzzles into the 169 available in PathPix. It's a hell of a game. Like Picross, but a little more casual. Loop lines together almost like squiggly puzzle pieces to make a cool picture. Great for playing while my wife watches TV shows I'm only vaguely interested in.

It's currently $1.99, and has never gone on sale. I highly recommend it.

I've been casually playing PathPix for months, and I'm up to 128. Think I'm hitting a wall.

Cool. Good to know. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info! I found out earlier from Stry-ker also. I checked out the free version again and turned it horizontal. MUCH better. The controls were actually pretty good and didn't cause me much problems at all. I decided to pick it up for a great price. So thanks again for everyone's input.

I love this type of puzzle games. I might pick this one up once i finish playing Piczle Lines (Free)

Zenses Rainforest is an additional FAAD feature right now (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/zenses-rainforest/id358141634?mt=8).

"Zenses Rainforest challenges and calms your mind through a series of relaxing and addictive puzzle games. Gather stacks of colourful symbols before they slide down the Waterfall or solve the cryptic puzzles of the brand new game, Water Lily. This is just the game for a rainy autumn afternoon. Spend hours as you take on more than 150 levels in a soothing atmosphere with dazzling graphics and sound."

Went with Resident Evil 4 for $0.99. Fully aware of its shortcomings and the fact that it's not the full RE4 game, but for a dollar I thought I'd give it a shot. I spent the first 15 minutes tweaking the controls and testing them in the Coin Shoot mode. I think with fast aiming and inverted controls, I'll actually have decent success with the game.

I'll try to give the campaign a go tomorrow.

Also, I finally beat Sword & Poker II this evening! Woot!

I realize this is not a deal but I need help remembering a tiltle to a iPhone game. The game Is a defense game where you are in charge of a army that I think is being attacked by Germans. You can build bunkers of various types and I also know you have machine gunners that you can buy, maybe flamethrower men, and engineers that can build upgrade bunkers. You are the general, I think, calling different troops to the battle field. Think the goal is to raid their bunker. Any help with the name of this game would be appreciated. I think this thread may have been where I first learned about it months ago.
