This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

Not exactly a sale, but Pac-Man Championship Edition now includes all levels - no need to buy a DLC pack. So it's sort of on sale. It also adds Gamecenter support. I think it's a solid game and definitely worth picking up.

Only problem is that for some reason my achievements, while they are showing up in Gamecenter, my points are shown on the main game screen as 0. However if I view the game in Gamecenter it shows my correct point total. I'm wondering if this is a jailbreak issue, though - does anyone, jailbroken or no, see the correct achievement points total for Pac-Man C.E. (or the other Pac-Man games) on the main list of games in Gamecenter?

EDIT: never mind - this isn't really a sale at all. They raised the price $2! So they removed the DLC purchase (need for), but then upped the price. Oh well.
There are like 5 games that dropped today that I'm looking in and then you throw in SC:C. Hmmm. Some games I picked up that dropped.

The Game of LIFE $2.99 -> $0.99
http://itunes.apple.com/app/the-game-of-life-classic-edition/id326912270?mt=8

Scrabble $2.99 -> $0.99
http://itunes.apple.com/app/scrabble/id284815117?mt=8

Trivial Pursuit $2.99 -> $0.99
http://itunes.apple.com/app/trivial-pursuit/id310735743?mt=8
Classic games....great deal, but playing against the cpu is boring. Would rather play the real board game with my friends.
Worms dropped from $5 to $3 and added some new Worms or something:

http://itunes.apple.com/app/worms/id321369231?mt=8#

They're doing this in celebration of the release of Worms 2, which doesn't appear to have actually hit the app store yet.
Back on 10/8 I noticed this text that said Worms had dropped to $3 to celebrate the release of 'Worms 2: Armageddon', but I didn't see Worms 2 anywhere. It looks like it finally was released on 10/26, so just thought I'd drop this in here as an FYI for anybody who wants to put it on a wish list. Its universal, which is nice, but its $5.
If you're jailbroken (and if you're not, what are you waiting for? ;)) it's available on Cydia.

http://www.intomobile.com/2010/10/2...ed-from-the-app-store-now-available-in-cydia/
I have, in fact, not jailbroken my iPod Touch 4G... mainly because I'm paranoid and don't have anyone with personal experience jailbreaking, so I have lived without it. I don't think I'm personally missing much with what I do, but the one thing I would like out of jailbreaking is the classic gaming emulators. That's all I see myself doing it for.

Ragdoll Blaster 2 is the new OpenFeint Free Game of the Day (http://itunes.apple.com/app/ragdoll-blaster-2/id353846826?mt=8).

"The Ragdolls are back and ready for more physics puzzle action! Ragdoll Blaster 2 is the much anticipated follow-up to Backflip Studios’ critically and commercially acclaimed Ragdoll Blaster. The simple rules are the same, fire a ragdoll with a touch to hit the target and solve the puzzle . . . but in this new version, art, puzzles, physics, sound and overall gameplay have been dramatically expanded and improved. Over 150 levels will keep you entertained and challenged for days. We have enlisted some of the top game designers in the industry to bring you simply the best physics puzzle game in the app store. Please enjoy."

Bought Conviction and R-Type!!!

WOW!! The first apps I have bought in MONTHS!! These will be great on my shiny new 32GB 4th Gen iPod touch. =]
Anybody tried playing Splinter Cell on a 2nd gen device? I just wanna know if I'll be able to play it before I buy.
There's a lite version of it, I would d/l that and see how it works.

Glad I waited on the DLC! Thanks for the heads up.

FAAD is featuring a couple of Halloween-themed games right now:

Ghosts!
"In this spooky action-packed game, players use a flashlight to find invading ghosts and other enemies in a dark landscape. Destroy the creepy enemies by zapping them with a lighting-enabled super flashlight or upgrade to a flamethrower for even better defenses. In the fast-paced bonus round, defeat 5 different enemies as they emerge from behind the tombstones of a graveyard. It's the season for scary, so why not grab a flashlight and go hunt for some GHOSTS!?"

Pumpkin Maker
(http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pumpkin-maker-free/id392564579?mt=8). Note: This is the lite version of Pumpkin Maker.
"Boo! It’s almost Halloween, and you know what time that is? It’s time to carve a pumpkin! Use Pumpkin Maker to create the best Halloween faces! Funny, Goofy, Scary - you can make them all with the huge selection of pumpkin making items!
First, select your scary background and type of pumpkin (big, small, round, or oval, even a green or white pumpkin).
Next, choose the eyes, nose, and mouth - lots of combinations will bring many hours of fun and creativity!
Finally, don’t forget to add funny sunglasses, goofy hats, animal noses and ears, or crazy hair to your pumpkin! You and your friends will have a ghoulishly fun time- you may even scare them when you add a spider or pesky rat on the side!
If you really love your “carvation,” email it to a friend or post it on Facebook!
Or, save it in the barn to show off later!"

And another Halloween treat that's FREE:
Paper Ninja Halloween! (http://itunes.apple.com/app/paper-ninja-halloween/id398324137?mt=8)
"Paper Ninja is a fast and exciting game that requires players to make split second strategic decisions and execute quick combo attacks. It is designed so that players can feel the thrill of a sword-fight by using a finger. Just like sword fighting, it is easy to pickup but difficult to master."

The only things I want cheap on the appstore are War of Eustrath, Katamari (which is on sale but yeah I'm still too cheap to buy it), and Super Monkey Ball (which I've missed a few times).

Has Eustrath ever gone on sale?
In for Braindead 13!!! Thanks dude!! AWESOME!!!!!
Is Braindead a good game? I usually look at pictures of the game and the reviews before I buy a game that sounds good but the pictures are sideways so it's hard to tell.

In for Splinter Cell! Great find. Also picked up Ragdoll Blaster 2. Just want to say thanks to all those who keep this thread alive with these great deals. Much appreciated.
I'm assuming everyone knows Plants vs Zombies is on sale for $.99. I looked back a few days and didn't see it mentioned.
It's back a few pages, somewhere. Still worth a repeat mention though. Excellent value at 99 cents.

A FREE apps roundup for your Halloween Sunday:
Braindead 13 is an amazing value at 99 cents.
...if you like Dragon's Lair type games.

Actually, under any metric, it is a good value; the game retailed at $49.99 way back when.

I have to say, though, I unearthed Dragon's Lair 2 last week. It has always been my favorite of the QTE kind games because of the absolute madness of everything going on.

I lasted about five minutes before I went back to the menu and "played" the game as a movie, meaning I could just watch instead of have to push all the buttons at exactly the right time. Dunno if that option's available on Braindead 13.
Let us know how the Alice game is Dims.
Will do. As soon as I can get my blinkin' iTouch to synch with my Mac correctly, I'll let you know. In the meantime, Splinter Cell Conviction has been an amazing buy for only a buck. I usually suck at FPSs but I'm actually enjoying this one quite a bit.

Taken from the TouchArcade front page, a list of many games currently on sale. Most have already been mentioned, but I thought I'd re-post as a summary for those who don't want to wade through all the back pages here:

bit.trip beat has reverted back to its original $4.99 price point - bummer.

EDIT: Pac-Mans have also gone back to their original pricing, while other Namco titles are still showing their sale pricing. WTF, Namco? Why not give us through the end of the day?
