CAGiversary!

This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center exchange thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.
 10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

I voted a few times so far. Idk why this game like every other Gameloft game will hit the $0.99 mark at some point anyway. Like everyone else I just want it sooner than later.
Yeah I'm hoping for a sales blowout starting friday for ipad. Maybe some of the larger titles that don't drop on a monthly basis like PvZ or even Dead Space finally. Everyone will want to be in that top 10 apps for all the new ipad owners.
Id kill for PvZ to go on sale. Just got my Ipad and I really want that game...but seeing as I already own the Steam version and DS version I simply can not justify it.

I want Scrabble for iPad to go on sale for 99 cents. It's a somewhat crappy/buggy app on the iPhone, but I still play it a lot. I'll want it for my iPad, but not at $9.99. No way am I going to pay that much for a semi-broken app, even if the underlying game is great.

I'd take a 99 cent PvZ HD too, which is the only way I'll buy it because, for whatever reason, I've never been able to get into PvZ on any platform. My kids love it, though. I'd get it for them if it was 99 cents. Otherwise they'll have to live with the scaled up iPhone version.

Just now realized Manga Rock released a whole other app with a whole other price for the Mangafox catalog.

Thankfully, Mangable's catalog suffices, but that is irritating.

Infinity Blade grows irritating. The amount of cash grinding I'll have to do for the Infinity Blade will require me to not upgrade any of my equipment, and the battle against the final boss is only hard because of the lousy camera angles.

Just got my OG iPad in the mail today. Really hoping a bunch of general apps go on sale Friday too. More games wouldn't hurt, but I have plenty of those for now.

Nice welcome to the club! iPad is awesome. I purchased my this past weekend and love it. Hoping for some sales also
New Bust-A-Move HD is out for $3, which is surprisingly cheaper than the $5 iPhone version
http://itunes.apple.com/app/new-bust-a-move-hd/id417195157?mt=8

Price is good until the 15th in which it will go up to $5

Ever heard of universal apps? Douchbags
Noooo shit. I don't even own an iphone right now but I thought the big thing when the ipad 1 was announced was that everyone was suppose to go to making universal apps if they made an ipad version. Infinity Blade is one of the best examples of an iOS game out there. They put it on 3rd gen ipods/iphones and took out some lighting or what not, put it on iphone 4 in its higher resolution, and ipad with its larger screen. All that in one app for 6 dollars.

Also did anyone try Dalton the Awesome today for free? Looks cool and seems to be a canabalt type game with guns? Plus it's universal.
http://itunes.apple.com/app/dalton-the-awesome/id417358959?mt=8

Edit: Well Dalton is free for a reason at least on my ipad. Crazes everytime the background changes and one time I started it and it was super zoomed into the top corner. Probably worth clicking just to have incase they update it but seems pretty wack at the moment.
Dungeon Hunter 2's almost at 99c (again, from what I gather, but maybe for the final time)
I'm going to get a picture of it next time. Then it'll be harder to screw us over.

Shibuya is the new OpenFeint Free Game of the Day.
"Shibuya is an atmospheric, challenging, and highly addictive little puzzle game. The gameplay is entirely unique -- this is not a clone of any other puzzle concept -- and is designed specifically to take advantage of a touch screen.
As a constant stream of empty blocks falls from the top of the screen, whichever one you tap is filled with the next color from the color previews. Fill the blocks before they land, taking into account colors which have already fallen and lining up pairs in reverse. Tap matched groups of two or more to remove them and make more room. Fill the screen with several matched colors to form combos, or group many of the same color for a Massive or Supermassive. If the stack hits the top of the screen and the timer runs out, it's game over."

Doodle Rush is the featured freebie on Great App a Day. . .though I'd be hard-pressed to tell you exactly what it is by its description.
"It stands out Hand-painted art design,in additional to unique level props. These advantages endow this 2D games world a new life."

Streetball and Streetball HD are both available for FREE right now.
"Thrills at streetball challenge! Prepare your fingers to real battle. Two challenges and one all-new game mode - fireball. Discover new balls, use bombs, crash planes and zeppelins, collect points and extra-time.
Three different rings, two modes and lots of fireballs to your service. Great realistic environment and sounds. Beautiful playground for proving your skills and accuracy."

Shift 2 looks alright ..

but ugh to Farmville knock off ... these games are awful, they aren't even really games ... more like worthless time sinks that scam people out of money and reward developers through customer impatience ... sorry, just my 2 cents on that particular genre

Trade Nations isn't always free? I thought these Farmville/Smurf Village games were basically made for microtransactions.

Finally grinded enough for the Infinity Blade and the extra bosses all do 1/2 my health in one swing, and, no, sorry IB, you are NOT Punchout. You aren't even Rage of the Gladiator or Super KO Boxing 2. You can't get away with that without better controls and tells. On the plus side, I am no longer running low on space on my Iphone.

Was Atomic Web Browser pulled from the App Store? I can't find it in there. Real shame if that's the case. Fantastic app (using it right now).

You might enjoy it more if you survive longer.

I liked IB because it was much easier than Punch Out. Punch Out was brutal if you didn't know the tells but the tells are much easier in IB, IMO.

I think I just need more points period. My build up to that point was straight 50/50 health/attack.

I'd enjoy it if the controls were tighter, the camera angles less useless, and the enemy move sets better designed. You can't crank it up to punchout hard without also being punchout good.

Of course, they weren't going for punchout hard, they wanted me to grind to hugely high level gear and stats. It's just not worth that sort of effort. I had my fun with it.

Since the sale I've Mastered everything except the last 3 swords and the last ring, which I'm half way done with, I'm level 58, I've dumped everything into Attack except for 10pts that went to Health, I've beaten The God King 5x last time he was lvl250, I've beaten all the deathless. The game hasn't even been close to hard until I got into the upper teens when they introduced another set of attacks, side uppercuts which you don't dodge into you dodge away from. I really don't know how you think the move sets could be better designed, they start off easy to read and the more you progress the more they add. The game pretty much teaches you how to play it, progressively getting harder. You wait, you watch what they do, you react, whether it's with a parry, a block, or a dodge is entirely up to you and then you follow with a combo during the break. The fact that is a grindfest is what adds it's replayability, well that and it seems like everything else keeps leveling up as well.

The iPad-only Flight Control HD is on sale for .99 for 24 hours only.

The new freemium title DJ Rivals is now available for download.
"Bland Corp and its vile henchmen have taken over Nightclub City and it's up to you to reclaim the music! Use rhythm tapping Moves like Bass Drop, Crossfade, and Scratch to put a stop to Bland Corp in your own REAL town, in this one-of-a-kind RPG!

My mom made me an angry bird. It's awesome, but right now he's missing one googly eye. Must replace!

In for free :shift2:, Dalton and Isaac Newton's Gravity. Thanks folks!
I have to recommend Bulba the Cat to everyone, its well worth more than the dollar there asking. It's one of my new favorites, I was lucky enough to get it for free but I think it was only free for few hours and they say it's the intro price so it might go up. It's universal plays well on my iPad and first gen iPod touch.

Lite version

I played this for awhile last night and give it a strong recommendation for anyone that enjoys platforming. I played for about an hour and found myself smiling and having a good time.
TowerMadness HD is free on sale from $7.99!
Yoink! I swear I think I spend an hour every mourning just downloading on sale and free games ;)
Scrabble for iPad is also on sale for $6.99. Not low enough for me, but there you go. It's dropped to $4.99 in the past, so I'll wait. Anyway:

http://appshopper.com/games/scrabble-for-ipad
I would wait for it to drop to $.99, it's been there too. It's a great game but I'm sure it will be $.99 again. I think I'm passing on all the EA games until they are a dollar. This sale sucks so far.

TowerMadness HD is a good deal for free, got it for a dollar at Xmas time, one of the better TD games.

Dungeon Hunter 2 will be 0.99 on the 12th even though it isn't currently showing it on facebook. They've been having problems with it I guess.
From Twitter: @Jasonc506 The application is experiencing some bugs and we're fixing it right now. The $0.99 level has been reached :)

I'm in for Inotia 3, it funny though I have every one of their rpg's and have yet to play any of them

Awesome. Glad they officially announced it so we know for sure! Can't wait to check this out!
Dead Space on sale for $7
That is just the beginning, given EA's track record I expect to see it cheaper over the next 2-3 months.

Same here. I bought a bunch of RPGs but have yet to play them. I think it might be due to the amount of time needed to actually beat one. I bought Twilight Princess for the wii years ago and have yet to play it :(

Agreed. It'll be .99 cents soon enough.

On a side note, I really wish EA and Gameloft would add Game Center to their games.
