CAGiversary!

This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center exchange thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.
 10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

World of Goo HD was updated to be universal. Does this mean that the iPhone version is the universal one? It's supposed to be out tomorrow right? Kinda wishing I had just bought the HD one when it was a buck. Ah well C'est la vie.

No. The HD version is the one that will be universal, the iPhone one will only be for iPhone, or at least thats what I've read here and there.

World of Goo HD is now showing up in my iphone search and it didn't show up before, so I'm to assume that it's now available, however it's still showing up as $4.99, so hopefully it's $.99 soon

The HD version (universal) is $4.99. The one that will be on sale is the iPhone one, @ $0.99, after 24h it will raise (I'm not sure if it will go up to $2.99).
Does anyone know of an Advance Wars-like game on the iPhone?
Great Little War Game is pretty close, but I don't know if it's universal or just on the iPad.

Ah, thought it was just going to be one version. Thanks for the clarification.

Sidenote- would be sweet if Humble Bundle had codes for us to input for a free iOS version from HB#1 & 2 as they do for Steam
Ah, thought it was just going to be one version. Thanks for the clarification.
Yeah, same here. Supposedly the developer is making the HD version universal as a bonus because it felt that the initial launch price was too high, so it's a sort of compensation.

Some people say that the HD version will never drop to $0.99 again (in a sale), but personally who knows. Even tho I don't own an iPad right now, I'd rather buy the HD version that is universal than the iPhone one, and since I have a huge backlog I'll probably wait.

From the folks who brought you Gun Brothers, comes Men vs Machines (another FREE download).
"Can man survive the war against the FIRST AGE OF MACHINES?
The year is 240AD, but it's an era that we never knew existed. Here you must FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL in a revolution against the vicious robot army G.E.A.R, under the command of the evil dictator Eisenberg. You must FIGHT ALONGSIDE YOUR FELLOW MAN, take down the machines with mechanically-powered weapons and SECURE HUMANITY'S FATE."

All-in-1 Logic Gamebox
is the new FAAD featured game.
"Are you looking for another way to challenge your mind, or at least kill some time?
All-in-1 Logic GameBox is a depository of goodies: more than 2,000 levels of complexity, 9 awesome logic games, new games with updates, in-game achievements that you can share via Twitter or Facebook!"

The terrific brick-breaker Jet Ball is once again the OpenFeint FGOTD.
"Jet Ball is a powerful breakout game packed with stunning visuals, tons of dynamic levels and lots of fresh ideas. Probably the most challenging block-breaker in the app store."

Asphalt 6 HD for .99 makes me one happy panda. Hopefully the Spiderman and that Dungeon game will drop down to .99 sometime in the near future too.
Bug Heroes is free to celebrate their huge new update with 3 extra heroes via IAP

http://appshopper.com/games/bug-heroes

Appshopper hasn't updated yet, but iTunes has. Normally $1.99. It's a mix of dual stick shooter and tower defense. Supposed to be very good. I picked it up at 99c, but it's still in the backlog.
I also picked it up when it was on sale @ $0.99, and I also have it on backlog. A bit unhappy that the developer decided to throw up major updates thru IAP.

Yeah, but I was referring to the new heroes :/ Meh, ignore what I'm saying, consoles do the same with DLCs.

Details below.
Just signed up. Playing Mass Effect 2 (PS3) as I type this, so I'm familiar with Dark Horse and like what they did with the ME Origins comic book. Count me in!

EDIT: Also, count me in for World of Goo (squee!) and Asphalt 6! $0.99 each.

World of Goo has the same file size as the HD one. Anyone buy the iPhone version and try it on their iPad? Also, is there any difference between the two?

The HD ($4.99) version is universal. The other is not.

Further, the HD version of World of Goo is supposed to drop to $2.99 for the first 24 hours if I remember correctly.

looks like the HD versions of the Dracula - Path of the Dragon games have dropped to 99 cents each (there are three of them), from $3.99. The iPhone versions appear to still be regular price :(

Anyone ever play these and care to weigh in on them? I picked up Episode 2 for free a while back, wondering if I should pick up the other 2 episodes or just skip them.

Is World of Goo's 99¢ price just introductory? If so, anyone know how long it'll be on sale for? Finally, has anyone bought it yet? Thoughts? I've never played it before, or even seen it in action, but it seems to have received some good buzz on previous platforms.

I believe it's $0.99 for only 24 hours. After that it jumps back up to $2.99.

Still deciding on if I should wait for the iPad version to drop since it's universal or just get the iPhone version.
Any reason to pick up Asphalt 6 since I already have all the Need for Speed games?
Asphalt 6 is sick, I have all the NFS games too they are great. In Asphalt there's lots of jumps, shortcuts, and take downs. The game is more like a Burnout game than NFS. At a dollar I wouldn't pass it up. Online and wifi multiplayer as well.

Because it's a racing game and it's fun!

I don't think it works too well on the iPhone. I have big hands and whenever I try to pull the goo my hands get in the way and I can't see. The screen is too small and you have to move your finger slowly in order to move something a tiny bit. I am going to keep playing it to see if I can get used to these controls. I played this game on the PC and the Wii and the Wii version is the best one by a long shot. I can see this working better on the iPad but I think it would still be a much better a experience on the Wii for those that have one.

Wii>PC>iPad?>iPhone

Well, I guess I'm going to get World of Goo on my lunch break when I get home. Don't really know much about it, but going off the hype that has built in this thread, I'll grab it.
I would get Streets of Rage 2, but the third one was always my favorite. Can't say I really care too much about the other two. The only reason I might get it though is to have a beat-em-up on my iPod. So I'll have to think on that one.

I also added my address to their sign up list. I don't read too many comics on my phone, but I can see myself taking advantage of them once I make my inevitable iPad purchase. Thanks for the heads up!

Getting ready to pick up an iPad. Does itunes work with it and my iphone so that I can choose which apps to sync for each device? I don't want them both to have the same apps.

yeah, the ipad is a totally separate device so you can sync whatever applications you want to it.

I picked up World of Goo late last night for my iPhone. I played it for about 20 minutes and thought it was very fun and addicting. Well worth $.99 in my opinion.
