Is anyone worried/holding off on subbing to Live with x2 looming?

There seem to be a number questions about what will happen with Live:

1)Will one's membership be usable on both xbox and x2 (without additional cost)?

2)If x2 is not backwards compatible, will that impact Live, both in regards to 1), and if X2 will then require a separate Live lobby, setup, friend list that is also not compatible with xbox

3) If one's membership is not usable, and/or x2 and xbox will be separate entities, will GTs in one be denied in the other?

Is anyone worried that the number of gamers on Live will be fractured, so that, for the first year at least, there would be less gamers on Live as many will have jumped to x2 while others will still be on xbox?

All the moreso because of the recent announcements that the Live experience is being significantly revamped with the release of x2 and at the moment, there is no word on whether this will be a 4.0 upgrade or something just for the x2 that leaves the xbox behind.

Is there anyone whose year subscription is running out or will end in the next couple of months? If so, are there any personal doubts to renewing based on these question over x2 coming out within the year?

If you're so worried, pay for your subscription on a monthly basis. Problem solved without this unnecessary stress and thread.

same things i'm wondering...will live for xbox die when x2 comes out? will they just eliminate it?

i'm wondering this because I'm not gettin an xbox 2 until maybe 2 years after it comes out (goin to college and saving up for that) and dont wanna commit to year subs unless live will still be available and good for xbox when x2 comes out

Eh, I just got the year starter kit like 2 weeks ago and I'm only regretting it because I barely play on Live anymore except for sports stuff. I think Live will be around for at least another year though since XBox 2 is probably going to be launched no earlier then late summer, Halo 2 has sold a ton of XBoxs and Live subscriptions, Microsoft profits from running it, and most people don't adopt the system immediatly at launch and cutting it off right away would upset alot of XBox owners.
I thought it was already confirmed that live accounts carry over.
They've never flat out said it but it appears XBL is a major part of their strategy, so alienating the current user base would be incalculably bad.

But that's what someone with common sense would do. Around here we make predictions and throw out guesswork before we have even half the facts. It's the CAG way.

Honestly, its good to play together (cliche). Do you really think that they would nix live. In five years live will be standard to 90 percent of gamers. That has to be the most uncalled for paranoia ever. Why would MS make it difficult to carry over your live accounts to the new system. It is as simple as a login.

heh, IDK...i was just thinking that MS might want to urge the xbox users to go to the x2 and will try to do that by canceling live...

i was asking about the general climate in regards to how people think ms will be able to balance two systems along with two Lives

your solution is to a different problem, or a problem arising from some type of assumption you made based on skimming the post, my own sub ends in august, nor did i ever say mine was about to end

there are just a number of questions ms yet to answer, questions that, to me, could potentially be a huge hassle for Live gaming once x2 streets.

perhaps i should have been more clearer, or these two quoted posts less pmsy

Live accounts do carry over.
Live will be usable by both Xbox and Xenon.
You might be able to play against people with the other platform on certain games (Halo 2 maybe?)

There isn't going to be a separate service once Xenon comes out, its all going to be the same. There won't be two "Lives".

(I hope they end up calling it Xenon, Xbox Next and Xbox 360 sound gay).

Why would Microsoft get rid of Live when the Xbox 2 comes out? Its not like every single Xbox owner is going to buy an Xbox 2 on day 1, and its logical to have Live run on both systems, and allow people with an Xbox 2 to play Xbox games on Live with Xbox owners if the new system has backwards compatibility.

This man speaks truth.

1UP: Given how you're saying the time is right to move on, how long would you say you're going to support the current Xbox.

JA: Oh there's gonna be some great games for years on Xbox. We're going to support the Live community for years and years. Hopefully, um, the nice thing about Live, you take Live as an example, you say well is it two years, is it five years before you get down to a couple thousand users and you think about turning out the lights. Xbox Live is one service, it's the same service for Xbox 1 and Xenon. So we don't have to turn out the lights, it's always on. It's always on, it's on forever and ever and ever and ever and ever, you're just going to access it through different versions of the console. You're going to be able to play on Xbox Live without owning a Xenon. All the cool Game Card stuff? You go over to your buddy's house, you go over to (Microsoft PR rep) Genevieve's house, she's got a Xenon, take your Gamer Tag with you, start building up your Game Card on our launch titles. Start building your reputation online. You're a subscriber, we love ya, man. You know, we're going to be supporting Xbox for a really long time. Gotta support the community, gotta support the retailers, gotta support the game developers, gotta support the game publishers. Lot of the game publishers are gonna make a lot of money in this last phase of the last-generation cycle. We're talking about the new generation for the early-adopters, for the pioneering game developers to start the next era. But for the budget-conscious consumer, they're still buying hardware, and for all of us as gamers we're still buying software. I dunno about you, but even if I could have a Xenon right now, I'd still be wanting to be playing Doom 3 on my Xbox with the lights turned down low. I'd still be anticipating Forza.
Microsoft's baby is LIVE, they will never drop it. LIVE is what make the Xbox better than (to me atleast) the other systems out there. They have said in the past and have not back down from it (like nintendo), that LIVE will be the backbone of the next Xbox. I am sure that it will be as simple as a account recovery to get your current LIVE account on the next Xbox.

Considering all the debate regarding backwards compatability, its a no brainer. The easiest thing to maintain between consoles would be non-hardware, aka Live. Even if it's a different setup, I would guess that 1 fee will cover both services.
