Is Def Jam FFNY any good?

I played the demo and thought it was good, but then again, it was one short fight in the story mode.

SPOILER

Busta Rhymes is the first one to die and Method Man is all shot up, as well.

The demo was great, can't wait till it comes out. It also had the different fighting styles that are going to be in the game, and it looks like kickboxing will be my specialty.

I've played a preview version (not the demo). Story is good, customization is cool, and the interactive environments are sweet. So far the only complaint is it may be a little short on moves for each character.

How much did they change the engine compared to the first one? From the previews it looks a whole lot different since it they expanded it from wrestling to all out fighting in general. Seems no more rings and looks heavily based on weapons.

I did enjoy the original Def Jam, so I may pick this one up eventually. Any word on creating your own characters?

Hooray! Let's play a game where mainstream rappers beat the shit out of eachother and shoot people to death!

Parents shouldn't be afraid of Grand Theft Auto, they should be afraid of this trash.

A responsible parent knows not to let kids play certain games. But to be honest it would be too much to ask parents to be responsible for their own children.

All I know is that the first game was good and I am looking forward to this one.

LOL, so true.

I played the demo that came with opm and was quite surprised with the quality of this game. Plus the engine is from AKI (YES!) So this game is competing for my cash along with burnout 3. I'll let you know who wins.

im waiting for my 20 dollar copy from EA.... i loved the demo, so i rented the first one (which i had never played) NOTHING ALIKE!

I thought the demo was ok (played for XBOX). It seemed like a decent fighter, nothing much though...the demo was rather short. I ordered a $20 copy from EA store....I would not pay $50 or $40 for it though. I guess I'm not the biggest fighter fan either....I think MK will be better

Well, I don't know if any knows all the charaters, but I heard DMX isn't in this game. Is that True?

Hey has anyone gotten charged for their Def Jam NY from those bastards @ EA who I can't contact by phone...Unless someone has their number or how to get it....only antiquated e-mail. Want to know if anyone has even gotten a freaking notification from them....I've been charged with no notice or shipping date...Please advise what to do.....

Yet another misconception: there is no shooting going on in DJFFNY. It's simply fighting game.

This "trash" just so happens to be one of the better fighters released yet. Don't dismiss it just because of the rap overtones. This is a fighter first, rap plays secound fiddle.

hmm... this isn't too big of a spoiler, but there IS shooting going on, but not in the matches, just in a few cutscenes...

i'm having a LOT of fun with this game, but it really does play differently from the first def jam. i play a lot of wrestling games, and this is not a wrestling game anymore. for me, it's around an 8 out of 10. for those that don't have it yet, check out the reviews first and here's a few notes...

- no ring... which DOES matter. i'm not saying it's a good or bad thing... it's just... really different. i don't know, it plays awkward for me, but that's because i was so into the first def jam that i was expecting a straight up wrestling game.

- the grappling system is not as deep (not that it was particularly deep the first time around). grappling counters happen when you press kick or punch at the right time, because you have no grapple counter button anymore. you no longer hold down the button for a stronger version of a move. you hold L1, then press the button. and remember how you would fail/get countered if you tried to strong grapple too early? this is not the case anymore, but it's just harder to connect a strong grapple because it's slow.

- KOs are a lot different. to KO someone, they have to be in "danger" and you can either: a) hit them with a weapon, b) hit them with a blazin' move, c) get them into one of those interactive environment attacks (like throwing them against a wall or something), d) doing a double-team move with one of the crowd, e) doing one of the style-specific moves specified in the game (like a strong grapple, if you're a grappler).

- matches are a LOT faster. mainly because life drains faster, and it's easier to KO someone.

- the game is HARD. if you get frustrated easily, play easy mode first (trust me, if you don't play def jam or any wrestling game, it still won't be easy for you). i'm playing normal mode, and i was getting stomped by sean paul of all people.

- remember how the integration of hip hop wasn't THAT involved in the game? well, in this one, it's involved a bit more. when you win matches, you win cash, which you pretty much can't use on anything except new clothes, some bling, tattoos, and uh... haircuts. and you're not exactly shopping at hot topic (though i personally don't know anyone that does). my friend isn't into hip hop at all, and he really liked the first one. he likes this one too, but he said it "alienates him more than the first one did."

- customization? sucks. can't pick your moves, only your fighting style and your finisher. only customization going on here is how your guy looks.

in general, it sorta feels like they sorta jipped me because i wanted a true def jam 2, but i'm okay with what i have now. the closest thing i can relate this game to would be like a GOOD modern day pit fighter with hip hop themes. my recommendation is to rent it or borrow it from someone else first, unless you're a very huge fan of wrestling/fighting games.

okay, back to getting my ass handed to me by fat joe. now lean back...

They are SLOW. Always have been. They seem to ship the game a day or two after release. Mine shipped today (last night via UPS)...so I should have the XBOX one soon.
