Yeah, I get stuff like the Sonic collection or Mega Man collection (good deals) and then play them once and put them aside.
I think the thought of playing classic games is more fun than actually playing them. I've got my PS2, Xbox, and GC all wired through a cool Pelican switcher and I have wireless controllers for each. Usually the idea of hooking up a classic system is too much work . . . once in a while I'll go to the trouble.
That said, get them if you think you'll really dig them.
I dunno. I just started replaying Super Mario World for the first time in probably a decade+ and am having a blast. That game is truly something special. I even think the graphics look pretty good when compared to today's games. (It is 2D after all.)
Now a few weeks before I picked up a Genesis 32X with a bunch of games and you couldn't pay me to play any of them for longer than 5 minutes or so each. And it had some decent titles like the Sonics, a couple shooters, etc. But then I've never been a fan of the Sonic series.
So I guess for the vast majority of old games I wouldn't bother, but there are a few gems that still stand out.
