So my wife has gotten me hooked on this local website: http://www.campbellyardsales.com. There are sites like this across the country created by bookoo. It is like craigslist, but geared more to local and community. Anyways, I was checking various gaming listings and came across this little gem: http://www.campbellyardsales.com/item.jsp?itemId=11505399
Is it me or does this come off a little racist? Just thought I'd share and see what others thought after reading it. Also "Hoptown" is the name given by locals of the area to Hopkinsville, Ky.
 
I think people who look for the racism in every little thing are the ones who are the true racists. If that ad was racist, what do you have to prove by pointing it out to more people? All you do is spread the hate and upset those who are being targeted.

When every pointless thing is scrutinized it just adds fuel to the fire. Let it go and worry one the actual racism that is actually effecting peoples lives in a negative way and not just their feelings.

You're an idiot. Yeah it is racist. It's not meant to insult. However it is insulting. And that is racism. You're confusing racism as a blatant attack when usually racism is a lot subtler, as shown in the link, to showcase their own ignorance.

The first time I read that listing it did come across as a bit racist and insensitive. But on second thought it was probably just a dumb joke. Why someone would make a joke that could possibly piss off the people you're selling to I'll never know though...

I've been noticing a disturbing trend of people just saying "let it go" or "ignore it and it'll go away" whenever a racist or sexist or flat out inappropriate comment is made. This is the equivalent of me telling you to ignore your dog pissing on your carpet instead of scolding him because it'll only reinforce his bad behaviors. Pretty soon, your whole house will begin to stink, just like this country will begin to if everyone sat on their hands and didn't stand up to jackass racist comments.

Lets turn the tables a little bit and tweak this listing. What if this guy was having a 9/11 sale and he said, " This sale for Halo 3 is for all the mourning widows who lost their spouses during 9/11 and need something to fill the voids of their meaningless and empty lives."

Is this the type of person you would like to give your money to?

Hispanic and black populations are known for their dropping out of school. Hence they're somewhat known to be ignorant and uneducated. Hence it's harder to hold stupid people accountable for being stupid. It's just the nature of individuals and groups who don't complete their education.

However white people are usually known to frequent colleges more than minorities. Hence they should know better. Instead they let their friends get drunk and pass out and stick carrots up each other's asses. Don't remember if it was Chappelle or Rock who pointed that out.

The only reason he thinks making statements based on stereotypes that are "facts" is not racism is because it protects his constant bashing of the white race without making him a hypocrite. So, if the guy writing this ad had said "Here's a great game that them Mexicans can look at while hanging out at the DMV!", it would have been ok? fuck off.

And here's a question just to make your head explode. What if the ad had infact been written by a Hispanic person? Is it still racist? Tell us rickshankshaw. Yeah, yeah. Same tired, old rickshankshaw routine. Turning the magnifying glass on the other person to make it appear as though you have the upperhand. Whatever. You create all these "qualifiers" for what makes a thought racist. For instance, if you talk about all races equally, it's not racist. If the stereotype is "mostly true", it's not racist. All that is is a bullshit loophole that you can justify your own snide remarks with.

My honest opinion about the ad is that it was intended as a joke. Was it a good joke? No. Was it even funny? No. Was it inappropriate? A little bit. But at the same time, it's so stupid (in terms of grammar and general coherence), it's not even worth getting upset over. What you have is a potentially racist thought from an incredibly stupid person. Who should you feel more sorry for?

The OP was the one thinking it was racist...thus demonstrating he's not racist. I don't know who was misreading what, but my questions were about the OP and the thread as a whole. I don't care about anybody's e-feud.

The posting in question was obviously racist. If it's a joke, that doesn't automatically mean it's not racist. Jokes aren't a free pass for racism. If it was both a joke and meant to be ironic, then maybe it would be making fun of racist stereotypes rather than perpetuating them, but that requires a bit of a setup, so one sentence in an attempt to sell a game can't quite pull that off.

And after questioning whether something was racist or not came the obligatory "you're racist for pointing it out" and pointing out that it isn't really important, which never makes any sense, hence my second question. I don't think the OP was planning a march on Washington based on it, so trying to place it on a scale of "racist things that are more important than other racist things" really isn't necessary.

And blah blah, all black comedians rely on racism, only white people are seen as racist,, blah blah. Just copy and paste, save some time.

So there was some terrible logic going around, is all I was saying.

I am half Mexican and went to college in OC, CA at UCI. Grew up in a Hispanic community with blacks in the neighborhood who went off to college in other states & countries such as Notre Dame, Burkley and Brown University, just to name a few. I saw plenty of hispanics and blacks at my university. Not to mention the neighboring colleges around Southern California. And California is a very populous state for latinos and blacks. You believe to much of what the media says.

So let me get this straight... All white people in the southern states drive old ass trucks with overalls and collect their welfare checks. Have lots of kids and play the banjo. Walk outside barefoot, molest little kids & rape them, didn't finish school and are all racists. Not to mention have an IQ level below 97? Oh don't forget! Beat their wives! Come on!!! Am I missing something here? I know plenty of whites from southern states I met in school who astound me with their intelligence.

I'm not sure, ok but I read somewhere that 71% of the country is caucasian and about 54% of those people live in the southern states. Hmm...

Where ever your getting your statistics buddy, you need to rethink & reread them and get your facts straight jack ass. Get over yourself.

This is what I'm going to say and that's the last of it.

Having seen uneducated ignorance first-hand, whether it be from whites who didn't finish school, blacks who didn't finish school, hispanics who didn't finish school, or the uneducated masses of third-world countries who never even started school (which I've visited and seen first hand), the lack of education is the key issue when it comes to racism and insensitivity. For me, the personal issue of racism is accountability. Who is accountable for racism? I don't hold uneducated people accountable because it would be the same trying to hold a dog accountable for eating their shit. It just doesn't work.

However who I do hold accountable are the people who should know better. More whites finish high school than blacks or hispanics. This is indisputable no matter how much it may leave a bad taste in your mouth. It's reality. Hence whites should know better than to be racially insensitive and for the most part they do know better. They know well enough not to drop the n-bomb around a company of blacks lest they have their asses beaten to a bloody pulp. Again. This is reality. Is violence all right? Not at all. But again. This reality. However with the advent of the internet, people hide behind their psuedo names, people who know better choose not to act on that knowledge.

Hence I shit on them.
