Is this Nintendo's Time?
The Wii has Zelda and.... what?

Wii has the momentum now, but it's also looking like it's headed right into a game draught of Gamecube proportions. Too many of the games are ports. Too many games are party games that get old quickly if you don't have 3 or 4 people to play with. Nintendo clearly doesn't know what they're doing online yet. Virtual Console titles can only string people along so much.

This year alone supposedly has these game in store for us:

Wii Play
Wario Ware
Mario Party
Mario Galaxy
Metroid
Pokemon
Super Smash Bros

Hardly the drought the gamecube had. You also aren't factoring in the hardware. Since the Wii is basically a Gamecube, development times will be much shorter.

As always though, it comes down to third parties.

Look at freaking Ipods, they're overpriced mp3 players, yet everyone has to have one. Look at christina agulera, she's a mildly talented vessel with a great voice but would be nothing without her slut-girl gimmick.

Different topic, but Aguilera has one of the most powerful and talented voices out there. I not a fan, but you can't deny that. It is a shame she wastes it on the pop tart music she releases. She's way more talented than that.
I just hope they get some solid 3rd party support.
I hope something happens soon becuase the game I'm most looking forward to is Wii Play. Why there have been no new games for the last 3 weeks is beyond me.

We're not seeing much new in the past few weeks because it takes time to develop. I'm pretty sure all developers are sitting back a little bit at this point and are trying to see which console they should develop for by how it sells. I think the Wii is going to see a lot more 3rd party support simply because it's selling very well at the moment. Also, if they do get support, it's going to be more likely the games will be exclusive to the Wii only because of the unique controls (assuming the developers use it right and don't just tack it on so they can sell it on the Wii.)

Whether the fact that by programming for the Wii controls will cause more development for the Wii only or will deter developers because it hinders them from expanding to other systems... well, time will tell on that, I guess. I have high hopes for Nintendo this time around, though.

Leaving all the fanboy elitism and bullshit behind... I will first say that the Wii is one fine system, and Zelda is one of the best games I've ever played, and it's a system me and my girlfriend can play and the Miis are cute.

But it is WAAAAY too early to start giving Nintendo props and saying "its their time". The 3rd party support is terrible, and other than Zelda, most of the games are getting pretty terrible scores, and I can see why. When the pointing and clicking novelty wears off, most of these games dont have enough meat on the bones to sustain our interests. My GF personally owns Raving Rabbids, and its fun, but after the first day and you beat it.... will you ever play it again? It boasts 100+ minigames, but I've beaten it and I just played the same 10-12 minigames over and over again in different ways and difficulties.

Basically what I'm saying, is that most of these games feel like the filler sports game in a Final Fantasy title... they're there to give you points and distract... but they dont have enough to them to call them games on their own. But when the dumb minigame is over, you go back to an awesome game in FF, whereas on the Wii, you go back outside and smoke a cigarette and come in and clean your house.

The Wii makes me productive, and thats why I like it. I play it for a 15 min distraction, and then I go back to something else. The 360 online games go on for HOURS. So personally, I like the Wii more, I think parents will like the Wii more....but its WAAAY too early to say that this is Nintendo's time. Most of these games are worth $20 at best. Zelda is worth $300, but something tells me its better on the gamecube. I do kinda feel like I lack some control on the Wii.

To wrap up, I think people are already getting over the novelty, and now its time for Nintendo to start kicking it into high gear... because as of right now, its Microsoft's time... but I believe Nintendo can pull it. I would like to see some games for the Wii designed for the VC/GC controller, to show that it can still do non-physical control. I would love to play Zelda on the gamecube controller right now. And Metal slug on a controller without the stupid "shake controller for grenades" thing would be nice. A lot of these games seem to just be tacking crap on, and thats annoying as well.

Right on, mon frere. There's no reason for this drought right now. If Nintendo plans on trickling the major releases like they did last time, we may as well start calling this thing the Gamecube 2.
