*Update* Well, I went to my urologist and had a IV Dye tracer. From what he could tell, there was minor corrosion to a certain area on the inside of my urethra. He said that if I haven't changed anything besides the consumption of the Diet Mountain Dew, then there's a large chance that's what caused it. I was tested for STD's, vericose veins near the bladder, and internal injuries and nothing came up. We also ruled out my sports nutrition supplements and the extra running I've been doing. I'm going to get a few more tests done to see if we missed anything, but so far all signs point to the mountain dew. I think after the next round of tests I'llt ry an experiment and start drinking it again to see if the bleeding starts up.

*OLD*Over the past month or so I had(may still have?) a, let's call it "minor", problem. On occassion, blood would just start to leak out of my urethra. Not in urine or anything, it would just leak out. My physician and urologist didn't know what was wrong (No STD's, no internal injuries, no UTI), so I had to reschedule an appointment for this month for more tests. Now, I drink a great deal of diet pop (about 44oz or so) and eat a beefsteak on my lunch break. I began to notice that I bled more often when I got Diet Mountain dew than, say, Dr. Pepper, so I decided to experiment a little and stopped getting Mountain Dew. Well, it's been over two weeks and I haven't seen one drop of blood. I'm not entirely positive that the Dew was the cause, but it strikes me as more than coincidence. It's the only thing in my routine I've changed (I'm still drinking pop), so I'm not sure as to what else it could've been. Just a heads up to dew lovers out there, and I'll keep you posted.

wtff!!! thats pretty gross man you should alert mt. dew about their penis bleeding product.
I wouldnt know because i dont drink any kind of pop.

Soda in any form is so bad for you. Stop the insanity!!!! I'd still follow up with that though - you don't want to mess around down there...
Note to self: Don't drink Diet Mountain Dew anymore.
If it is the Dew, the affliction it causes is the strangest thing. No pain, no burning, no itching. It just bleeds. You can imagine how terrified I was when I first saw it, I thought it was some mutated form of the clap.

Reality's Fringe]I follow up with 3X more than that iin water a day said:
I'm having a hard time picturing someone drinking a 44-oz Diet Mountain Dew, then following up with another 132 oz. of water. Maybe you just sprung a leak?

You can come clean with us here, I mean, we aint gonna tell your Moms or anything but, ya know, you were barebackin' some Thai hooker weren't you?

Moment of pleasure for a lifetime of pain playa, wrap that shit up.

Brominated vegetable oil (BVO) is vegetable oil that has been mixed with the element bromine. Brominated vegetable oil is used as an emulsifier in citrus-flavored soft drinks such as Mountain Dew to help natural and artificial citrus flavors stay suspended in the drink. The bromine is mixed with the vegetable oil so that it will have a density identical to the water in the drink.

Consuming BVO leaves traces in body fat; it is unclear whether these traces pose any health risk. Many people fear that BVO is harmful, but there have been few scientific studies to demonstrate this. In one case, reported in the New England Journal of Medicine on May 8, 2003, a man who drank eight liters of Ruby Red Squirt daily had a reaction that caused his skin color to turn red and produced lesions diagnosed as bromoderma. The excessive quantities togther with the fact that the man had an higher than normal sensitivity to bromine, made this an unusual case.

A Pepsi product website notes that BVO has been used by the soft drink industry since 1931.
[edit]

Restrictions

Standards for soft drinks in India prohibit the use of BVO.

Title 21 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, Sec. 180.30 (21CFR180.30) imposes certain restrictions on the use of BVO as a food additive in the United States. BVO is one of four substances that the Food and Drug Administration has defined as interim food additives; the other three are acrylonitrile copolymers, mannitol, and saccharin.

That fact is pretty much what I told Jaket and he was in shock and hasn't touched it since, I mean, it's VEGETABLE OIL IN YOUR DRINK, what the holy hell people?! Stop it. Ok? Stop it. Just stop it.

I drink 8-12 cans of diet soda (mostly Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper) per day and have done so for years without ever bleeding from my wang. Sorry, dude.

Bromine (from Gr. Bromos, meaning "stench"), is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Br and atomic number 35. A halogen element, bromine is a red volatile liquid at room temperature which has a reactivity between chlorine and iodine. This element is harmful to human tissue in a liquid state and its vapor irritates eyes and throat.

I seem to recall that aspartame converts to some brand of alcohol when warmed up. It caused problems with U.S. soldiers during the first Gulf War because they stroed the diet soda in hot places.

Actually I've been drinking more Coke Zero than anything else lately. I was skeptical at first but it really does taste a lot like regular Coke. In fact, its the least diety tasting diet soda out there.

Edit- Saying "least diety tasting diet soda" out loud is fun!

Coke Zero is really good. I remember seeing on tv this guy was drinking 2 liters of pop all the time. I don't remember if it was regular or diet though. But the man was drinking 6-2liters a day. He would kill one with breakfast and one with lunch one while working etc. Then he said one day he just started to go blind. He said he thought maybe he had something in his eye and his vision kept getting worse and worse until he went blind. I forget the rest but in the end he quit drinking pop and I think his blindness went away after surgey or something.

Ok, now THAT is definetly excessive. Anything in that amout of excess is going to have negative side effects.

OP- maybe you're the first of a new species of man that has periods?

some people are so fucking stupid.
aspartame and bromine, why not just shoot yourself?
But then, you're not as much of a corporate whore.

I just bought my first six-pack of Diet Dew the other day. I thought it was pretty good. Now this news flash. Well, maybe it's the end of pop as I know it. I never drank it as a yout. My mom even gave me and my brothers sugar-free candy for a stretch. I only really started drinking pop like a harlot late in high school.

I just saw a show on public access that was a doctor (I think) talking about how you should drink 1/2 your weight in water a day, and how people can remove corrosion from car batteries and stuff with coke. He also said that a bowl of coke will dissolve a steak in 2 days and a nail in 4. Both of these I would like to try.

But anyway, curses to all the tasty things that are bad for us. I quit smoking 2 years ago after 13 years of puffdom. Pop can't be harder than that, can it?

Mythbusters already handled those rumors and they were proven false.
That is disgusting.
No way. If it weren't for the cost, I'd down a case of Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper everyday. That stuff is liquid crack

I used to drink 1-2 2-liters of dew (regular) a day.

Besides being hooked to it no bleeding of any sort. I think the problem may have somehow resolved itself...you want to test it stay away fromt eh dew for say 4 or 5 months. Then change nothing but the diet dew. If it does it again...well there are a few options. I mean this is America the land of lawsuits.

No, it's still disgusting. Soda is so bad for you - drink water instead. In 3 weeks after flushing out your system you will feel a million times better.

I remember that. They also tried to get blood off the bumper of a car with coke, and it didn't work, either.

Not bleeding from your wang is disgusting? j/k

Drinking pop is not disgusting no matter how much. It might be excessive, but not disgusting. I mean, for all the "bad for you" stuff, it's just pop.

Another lovely side effect of artificial sweeteners found in damn near every "diet" soft drink. Glad you found the primary culprit.
OP- maybe you're the first of a new species of man that has periods?
ahahaha that cracked me up

I drink the pop for the caffeine(I hate coffee), and it's $.99 for a 44 oz at Speedway which is where I buy my beefsteak, so it seemed like a natural combo. I've subsituted it with every other diet version they have and it hasn't caused any problems. At first I thought it was my medication, but that wasn't it, then I thought it was how hard I was pushing myself running(I can barely make it 2 miles, need to change that), and that wasn't it either. The only other explanation is the Mountain Dew. I do drink enough water because it's the only beverage I have when I'm not at work, and after I finish my pop I fill the cup back up with water about 2 more times. I know excess anything is bad for you, but damn. I was also unaware that there was vegetable oil in it...that doesn't sound remotely even appetizing. At any rate, if it isn't the pop I'll make sure to let you know.

GOD BLESS YOU!!!!! :applause:

My diabetic father drinks diet dew in bottles everyday and has for years. He never mentioned anything about bleeding?

Jeez that's a lot I don't think I drink that much soda in two months.
Jeez that's a lot I don't think I drink that much soda in two months.
I'll take it further - I don't have that much in two years...

Well, I guess no more Mountain Dew for me. I knew that the stuff had vegetable oil and orange juice in it, but I didn't know that brominated vegetable oil was that harmful.

Just water, diet sodas, and Coke Zero for me, then.

I drink pop and water alternately. I have never had any problems. I would like to quit drinking pop altogether. but it's so damned hard. Quitting smoking is easier.

By that logic you shouldn't swim in pools either, because those are cleaned with chlorine, which is deadly to human beings in its natural state. It's no wonder why we have a national epidemic on our hands, with hospitals being filled up with people who've swallowed pool water.

Of course. Lots of everyday stuff can be poison when taken in high doses. Multivitamins can wreck your system. Hell, even water can kill you.

My point obviously wasnt that Mountain Dew is brimming with Bromine, but its to show what goes into your soda and what it passes/is mixed with.

The pool thing was a horrible analogy. Obviously its all about parts per million and a pool is balanced so theres not a problem with occasional ingestion. But, if you go out and drink multiple glasses of pool water a day, everyday for say a couple months then ask your doctor how much better off your health is, I think you wont like his answer.

Its all about moderation. Its ok to have brominated stuff every once in awhile. But a lot of people are consuming this stuff multiple times daily. Nobody's yet proved its fatal but why expose yourself regularly to something thats yet had its toxicity determined and is very much in question? Just ease off the Dew.

Ahh, always cool, clean and safe pool water.

I'm so happy you got your first period!

j/k

If you were 100% sure you could sue man. But thats nasty.

Hmmm.. Brominated vegetable oil.. sounds enticing. I don't drink much soda, but I love Mountain Dew! All flavors, especially Baja Blast. I keep the intake down to 1 or 2 large soda's a week, nothing serious. Mostly I drink gatroade, powerade, iced tea, fruit punch, grape juice, etc. No way I'm cutting down on the Dew just cuz it's bad for me.. that would be hypocritical with all the drugs I've done :]

Why does everyone jump to sue? If it harms you, stop drinking it. Good lord. It's not the soda vendor's job to protect you from yourself. Just like it isn't the tobacco company's job to protect you from yourself.

Get a life.
