Home of the 2009-2010 stanley cup champions - chicago blackhawks!

Hello, I am a Chicago guy so I would like to start a Chicago thread so maybe we can help each other out by letting Chicago area cheapasses find cheap deals.

Good question. I was wondering this last night. Touhy had a bin last week, but the shit was only 20% off, and included Juiced 2 and a bunch of GHIII faceplates.

That's weak. BB at the HIP has ZERO clearance games. Don't even bother.

Any pawn shops in the Chicago area that give you good prices on stuff your trying to sell? (games, dvds, cds)
Has anyone seen any clearance games at best buy?
The Best Buy by Melrose Park had a few games on clearance from what I remember:

-DOAX2 (360)
-Pirates of the Caribbean (360/PS3)
-Fatal Inertia (360)
-Monster Madness (360)
-Halo 3 Guides
-DS games

Ryo, are you the "latino guy" slowdive is talking about in the Yard Sale thread?

I always tell myself I'm gonna haul my ass outta bed early to cruise those sales but I end up sleeping in. And twice since May I've had a friggin' cargo van rented and not put it to garage sale use. :bomb:

Maybe we can use this thread to organize us Chicago CAGs and inform each other of yard sales going on? I was going to hunt last year but it never took place cause I couldn't get out of bed earlier than 2pm, lol.

I haven't been to a yard sale for awhile. Hook up a link to the comment made by slowdive.

Trying to cause trouble? :) A "latino guy" is what the people having the sale call him...Actualy they say "some Mexican guy" was just here, but I made it more politically correct. Since I do not know his name, but we have crossed paths 6 or 7 times this season, I refer to him as "the latino guy" (who buys video games). There is also 'the asian guy with the red astrovan', the "old guy" (I've seen him too, he is about 50, not very old), and myself who buy games in my area.

I asked a lady today if she had any video games and she said "You are the 3rd person to ask me this morning" I said what did the other people look like, so I know my competition. She said "a latino guy" - and I said "was the other guy Asian with a red astro van?" and she said "YES!! How did you know!" I said 'we are always competing for games, so I've got to pick up the pace!"

Hit up the Microcenter on Elston with that $10 coupon (expires tomorrow 6/22) from the main forum front page. I was gonna grab Persona FES but I went for Mana Khemia instead (rare RPGs FTL!). No used games carried at this location.

They had a big bin of cheap games but they're all in those "lockboxes" and it would've been a pain in the ass to go through everything. There's an EB (didn't know they all haven't gone GS) in the same plaza, so anyone with big brass ones could try to do some serious flipping before the weekend's over.

I also grabbed some cheap ($4) cd wallets to stick in my IKEA DVD tower because my piles of burned crap are getting out of control.

Last time this was on, I went on a Sunday, too, and picked up PGR3 (love this style of racing), a month of Live, and that official wooden 360 faceplate (which does look very nice on my system). Any word on the sale items this time around, like The Darkness for the 360 and Geometry Wars Galaxies for the DS? If all else fails, I'll see if they have some more PGR or WarTech lying around, but I wouldn't mind getting Prince of Persia for the Wii or Space Invaders Extreme for the DS for ten bucks each. Any of those titles in stock? And any luck with points cards and/or multiple coupons?

Sorry... I'm the wrong person for that kind of reporting. I'm not next-gen, and won't be for a while, so I tend not to pay attention to those titles/systems. The only thing I noticed was an endcap that had Manhunt 2 on it, but for reg price. Also, there's still a shelf/section of PC games outside of the regular games area.

Live cards weren't valid this time around, so I just grabbed a free copy of GW and a $10-after-coupon Wii version of Prince of Persia: Rival Swords (sorry, that looked like the last copy). Tempted to go back for more GW for friends as I'm driving down there again later today, but I didn't see any Space Invaders Extreme for the DS whatsoever.

Thanks for reply, regardless.

I picked up geometry wars for free and space invaders extreme for $10 at the microcenter. I was able to find the space invaders by the register with hidden underneath a bunch of games and mags.

Wow, that's quite some detective work there. :) I just settled on two copies of Geo. Wars (leaving one on the shelf and none in the bin -- turned out I was confused by a partial look at the cover art of another DS shooter in there). I actually ended up using those two DS titles as... housewarming gifts, which turned out surprisingly well. Happy with what I got overall. Good show, Micro Center.

Anyone seen if any Toys R Us locations in our area have any good games that recently dropped? I saw a copy of Farcry for 360 at the TRU on Western Ave but since I already have it, I didn't buy it. I was looking for Battlestations Midway...
Who is going to the Taste?
I'm probably going w/ my gfs and meeting up w/ me sister. Dunno what day though.
Who is going to the Taste?
Just got back from the Taste, and it was damn hot. But worth it for the turkey leg.
This trip include the above mentioned plus some rainbow ice cream, chorizo con arepa, and finished my trip with a watermelon and lemon Italian ice.

To anyone interested in purchasing the MGS4 80GB PS3 Bundle, walmart.com reports that the location in Country Club Hills has it in limited availability. Have a nice day Chicago.
Who is going to the Taste?
I usually go on the 4th of July and one other day (Monday or Tuesday) but this year, I'll only be going on the 4th. I like to get there early and get outta there before it gets really crowded. Not to mention I missed out on getting the discounted tickets at Dominick's. First time I forgot about them!

Going to the taste without a doubt, got my discounted tickets from Doms, and I always go during the week since I work in the West Loop (so I avoid the larger crowds). The rainbow cones are awesome, I miss them since I don't live on the South Side any longer. The taste portions are the way to go IMO. Also some places actually offer cheaper food than in their normal locations.

I went to WW on Friday, but I didn't take any pics. There were a lot less people than usual and there were more women than usual. Several wrestlers...Somehow I missed the Iron Sheik, but Virgil flagged me down and managed to steal about 5 minutes of my time since I feel bad for the guy (he is there every year). Also Saw 'Scottie too hottie' and 'al snow' who I had no interest in meeting. Not much 'star power' there. Lou (hulk) was there as usual, the only talent I saw was Linsner (who had a booth). I also saw Warren Ellis, but I don't really care about him. I didn't even see the usuals like Silvestri, Liefeld (hack), Alex Ross, Billy Tucci, etc. I think the industry area is one row smaller...I may be crazy, but I don't think I saw a Mattel booth either.

I did find some pretty decent comics. Some ok Silver/Bronze Age books for .25 each. I got a 10 cent cover superboy (for .25) that is worth $20 even in good (2.0) condition. My brother found a Green Lantern 14 or something (for .25) in good, but still worth it. The day went pretty fast. I may actually go for the weekend next year and buy a lot more. I bought a little more than a short box, spent under $50, and each comic I bought was worth at least $5 in the condition it was in.

Hey, I like savage dragon. :) I also find good stuff in the cheap bins and some statues way below retail price at ww. But I'll will try to go next year since this was the first year that I did not go.

I'm a new dad of a baby boy! :)

^^^ Oops I meant Rob Liefeld, not Larsen. I just wrote the wrong image comics 'L' name. I have some Savage Dragon Wizard 1/2s (both the original and the special edition) for sale if you are interested. I also have a run from 1-12 or so from the ongoing series for sale too. I think I have some extras of the first mini series too if you need any of them.

I'm a new dad of a baby boy! :)

Congrats!

Thanks guys regarding my newborn. Hopefully he does picks up some of my cag skills and use the money for more important things like taking his dad out to the baseball game. :)

Congrats Ryo!

On the much more cynical side, screw the Taste. That's mostly my laziness talking, but I'd rather check out the restaurants themselves than the meager and overpriced versions at the Taste. I did recommend to some of my students to check it out though.

^^^I think the only time I 've been to the taste in recent years was 2005 when the Stereophonics played a free XRT show. I would have seen Stevie Wonder if I had heard about him being there.
Anyone go to wizard world? If so, post some pics.
I tried to get as many pics of all the people dressed up in costumes as possible. I'll post some pics up on my Flickr account. I just have to find some time to do it.

What's up guys, just got in from the walmart out in Forest park and they had a huge clearance sale of games. Everything ranging from PSP, 360, PS2, GC, Wii, all for $5 or less. I snatched:

:gc: Zelda: Twilight Princess - $5
:psp: GTA: Vice City Stories - $7
:wii: Wii Game Party - $5
:360: Star Wars II: Original Trilogy - $7
:360: Stuntman Ignition - $5

There was even a bunch of Madden 05's with Ray Lewis on the cover for PS1 there...

Did they have any more of Zelda?

I'm pretty sure I snagged the last Zelda, and the 360 games I saw was a Bomberman Act Zero, Tiger Woods 06, a few Rayman Raving Rabbids, 1 or 2 Stuntman Ignitions, and 3 or 4 Star Wars Original Trilogies. But there was a ton of PS2 games, especially the Hack games, not sure the exact titles, I've never played the series. Didn't see any PS3 games(Damnit)

The ticket prices weren't too bad but the food selection was. I just got back today from the Taste & I swear, the stands all alternated between pizza, chinese food, soul food & desert. Nothing exotic like in years past w/ alligator meat & boar stew. I admit though, a few of the 'taste' portions were worth more than the few tickets it cost (I got a softball-sized watermelon for 2 tix). I'd say the Taste was pretty mediocre this year.

The Dot Hack games? I'm missing some of those. If they have alot of those and a few 360 games, I'll have to make a trip out there in the morning...

What's up Chicago thread! So I'm gonna be near your town for a few days come mid July. I already picked up some tickets for the Friendly Confines to watch the Cubs take down the Giants on the 13th. How's the food at the stadium? Or do you guys have any recommendations on eating somewhere around the stadium before the game?

Besides Wrigley, is there anything else you guys think I shouldn't miss while I'm there? Places to eat or shop? Or things to do? I'm up for all kinds of suggestions as long as they don't kill my wallet... those Cubbies tickets already hurt it enough. I believe I'll be staying in the Schaumburg area if that helps at all!

Target at Addison mall is no longer accepting either form of the $5 a $25 purchase coupon due to "fraudulent activity". The notice went up today, apparently.

The Matteson one had that up as well.

Went to The Taste. And it was bad. The usual ugly and fat chicks in short shit they shouldn't wear. There was some nice breasts to be seen. Shooting by Buckingham Fountain, and I had run like a motherfucker. The fireworks were short as hell. It was just bad, man.

Also confirmed at the Brickyard location. It was funny because another cashier was curious as to why they weren't taking the coupon anymore. The cashier that was attending me said that it was getting out of hand, especially with people bringing in oversized coupons. She said most of them would just hand her an entire page with the coupon blown up. LOL.

I've been to the Taste fireworks once.....ONCE. Never more. You all should take heed from my words.

And yes. The fashion ugly are always there, but if you are a breast man, you'll have some nice sightseening...usually. Hahhaha.

Edit: Sorry to all the Chi-town area ladies reading these recent posts. Judging by all the posts as of late, there are no area ladies reading this, only a female visitor to the area....
