Any left? :)
I wouldn't mine going to check out alot of CC but gas is just too high and I have a car that just drinks too much of. But if the elston one has it I might just go a check it out. Also rocksolidaudio, I got a coupon from the entertainment book and it has a $5 off coupon for EBgames, can I use that or does it only apply to new or used games?
Hmm, no one checked the CC at Elmwood Park? What about the CC near the Old Orchard Mall?...
Old orchard one closed a few months ago.

I bought La Pucelle at the Golf Mill Game Stop a few weeks ago for 20 bucks. I got the last sealed copy though, the only one they have left is the "new" display copy. Oh yeah, also went to the Reckless Records on Broadway and Belmont and I noticed that there was a Video Game Exchange setting up for business, might want to keep an eye on that place.

Bumping the store list I started:

EBGames at Lincoln and Jersey/Kedzie (The manager there is real cool about everything) (But he'll be moving to the Evanston EB soon)

Video Game Etc. (it's near the HIP heading down Harlem from Montrose going towards Foster. It's next to a Lee Auto Parts place and should be on the right side of the street)

Reckless records on broadway near belmont

Reckless records by Double Door (like milwaukee and north)

EBGames on Webster (Has a pretty good selection of used games)

dp84-- that video game exchange place sounds interesting...is it on broadway?

edit: how'd ya like reckless? did they have any obnoxiously loud noise playing over the speakers? :D

none left at elston, i got the last one. and i'm not sure which coupon you're referring to, but you can probably use it on anything.

and dp84, who are you? i work at that EB and have probably seen you, especially if you know my manager is moving to evanston.

Yup, on Broadway and Belmont across the street of Reckless. Didn't really notice the music, but my hearing is pretty bad and I'm used to loud noise due to leaving my jet engine sounding comp on.
and dp84, who are you?
I'm guessing you may be Elliott? Anyhoo, I'm Wasan, asian dude with glasses and fuzzy hair.

nope, i'm nick. the nick who's not the assistant manager. i only work there on sundays now, 12-6, as the rest of my hours are spent at the evanston store.

Nick who's not the assistant manager... I think I've seen you only once then. I mainly go to EB on the weekdays after classes and stuff. I've been meaning to go to the Evanston EB though, but it's such a hassle to find parking.

Went to the Video Game Exchange on Friday-- they had some decent stuff but I didn't buy anything. Some of their prices are a bit expensive, but some are cheap--they have Zelda:OOT Master Quest for $19.99. not bad.
They also have a bunch of old game guides and Dreamcast accesories.
I've been meaning to go to the Evanston EB though, but it's such a hassle to find parking.
That parking garage across from the theater has free one hour parking..there's a section for free parkers on the right as soon as you pull in :)

I've met both Nick's a time or two myself, but that's another story. As for parking, you could also try the metered spots along the first angled street west of the train tracks (which are a block or two west of the Evanston EB). The Evanston store looks like it carries a lot of the larger collector's items (like the Ace Combat flight-stick set -- or just a box of it -- and such). I also like the larger space, but I've only been there once, so it's hard to vouch for the general availability of rare games and so forth.

I guess I'll just keep posting good chicago finds in here--. I get around the city and the north/northwest burbs a lot and wherever I go, I check out game stores, video stores, pawn shops etc. :D

So here's another-- Gamestop in the Village Crossing mall in Niles still has RE4 Limited Edition Tins new and sealed, $60. I think they have a bunch--which is amazing considering only 15,000(or is it 30,000) were made and are sold out everywhere.

I haven't seen any pawn shops around here (northside) at all. Can you name a couple for me? Thanks! Anyways, I wanna throw out another indie store out here. It's called GameOne on Clark and Wilson. The prices are average and they don't sell used games. But they do have other stuff like wallscrolls, Gundam models, and gashapon figures. May be worth a check out if you're in the area.

yeah, it's cool that they sell all of their new games for $45, i just wish they had used stuff too. also, all of the new games that aren't new releases are grossly overpriced. but props for indie game stores.

There's a pawnshop or two in des plaines, haven't been to them. and there's one in wilmette on greenbay rd. haven't been there either.

I haven't scoped anything evanston, but i don't drive around search around there much.

Which eb, gamestop, BB, CC, etc has the best service, game selection, and overall cool people to talk too in Chicago?

For example, the gametop in brickyard are cool (they have hooked me up with demos and items) and the EB across from it totally sucks (their somewhat rude and they don't ask if you need any help, they just sit and play games even when theirs a line forming).

Ratings:
Gamestop (brickyard): a four out of five
EB (brickyard): a one out of five
Best Buy in Hip mall: a two and half out of five.
Gamestop in Harwood Heights: a two and half out of five.

the people at EBX Old Orchard are all really cool, the people at gamestop in Golf mill are also cool though they may seem a little intimidating at first :D never had any problems with the EB evanston folks, the EB glenview folks are nice but I got a couple of DRE PS2s when trying to exchange for a working one. hmmm...let's see.....the folks at Gamestop in Niles are also cool. all those stores also have decent selection. though all of their PS1 sections are a mess to look through, but I think every store has a messy ps1 section.

guess i haven't encountered any assholes at EB or GS. except for this one guy at EB Old Orchard a couple years ago who would talk your ear off for like 10 minutes after telling him you didn't need any help looking for a game. he'd hover and give you a description of everything you picked up :whistle2:\
i want to hear the story! was i helpful or a douchbag?
Oh, certainly helpful enough. I met the other Nick when I went to finally trade in some games that deserved it. I asked for rocksolidaudio, and he knew that I was referring to you. The next time, I came in to actually use some of that credit for Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (for the Xbox), while only Evanston had Alien Hominid (for the PS2). On the next occasion, I met you (uh, this Nick) and picked up the strategy guide for Phantom Brave, when you told me that game was in stock over at the Lincolnwood Town Center EB. We got to talking about gaming jobs, too. (If you ever hear about something opening up at Midway, let me know!)

At any rate, my memory's pretty good, but I wouldn't be able to remember all of this without a wee bit of help from my receipts. It probably would've helped you remember me if I posted a bit more on this site, but I haven't heard of many great deals (on the games I want) lately. Maybe I'll go check out the MSI exhibit on games and the one called Body Works during an early week in June (when there'll be free museum admission again). As for your current source of income, I hope that the EB-GameStop merger works out well for customers and corporations (er, employees?) alike. Game on.

--Dan

Update: Oh, I also mentioned how interesting it was that I didn't get charged sales tax (twice) on items I purchased with my trade-in credit. Must be due to a personal-sales qualification or some such.

i definitely remember you now. cool.

Hey y'all.

If anyone's interested, I saw used (but complete) copies of MVC2 for PS2 and Dot Hack Mutation at the Gamestop on Fullerton yesterday. MVC2 was $40 and Dot Hack was $35 (I think). Hope that helps someone!

I was at the GameCrazy on Clark and Granville last Thursday and it seemed like they were taking down all the psx games and sticking them into a bag. Not sure what was happening though. Anyhoo I've only been looking around for psx games and it seems none of the GameCrazys I've been to has a good selection, however I didn't check out the 16 bit games.

Nothing too special at the Golf mill one...that place was picked dry the week it opened.

I went to the one located on central and by diversey and they had nothing good that was worth getting. They did have final fantasy for the nes and paper mario for the n64.
Anyone get anything from the 3 for $15 sale on gamecrazy?
Nothing from the GameCrazy on Lincoln and Devon, but I wasn't willing to dig through the rows of hanging N64 carts. Nothing of interest in the PS1 and Genesis sections, and they weren't willing to sell 1 for $5, either, which is understandable, I guess.

Nothing like Suikoden or Valkyrie Profile, but I landed plenty of decent games that I'll never get around to playing. Went to the Niles and Palatine stores and got this stuff:

Nes-
Final Fantasy

Snes-
Dr. Mario/Tetris x 2

Dreamcast-
Skies of Arcadia, mint Complete

PS1-
Marvel vs. Capcom x 2
Xmen: Children of the Atom
Final Fantasy Tactics- Mint complete, not GH
Tobal No. 1
Time Crisis with the gun!
Darkstalkers 1
Strider 2 (which i'm exchanging because it's actually Strider 1, lol)

I missed out on getting a COMPLETE Suikoden 2 for $5 at the Gamecrazy on Milwaukee by about 20 minutes. *cry*

At least I got 17 GB/GBC color games to ease my pain! ^_^

Ouch! That totally sucks. I went to the Game Crazy on Clark and Granville, Lincoln and Devon, and Montrose and Kedzie. All I was got was the two Zelda for GBC and Metal Gear for the NES from the Clark, nothing worthwhile at the other places unless you're looking for N64 stuff. Oh yeah, any of you guys going to Anime Central at the Rosemont Convention Center on May 13th?

Sorry to hear that Gameboy415! That was probably the last Suikoden 2 in the entire state.
Oh yeah, any of you guys going to Anime Central at the Rosemont Convention Center on May 13th?

I missed out on getting a COMPLETE Suikoden 2 for $5 at the Gamecrazy on Milwaukee by about 20 minutes. *cry*
it wasn't complete. i know, because i bought it :p
still though, not a bad deal for disc only (and it's near mint)

SNES (all cart only):

Yoshi's Island
Super Mario Kart
Super Bomberman 2

Lufia & The Fortress of Doom
Breath of Fire
Romance of the Three Kingdoms III Dragon of Destiny
Final Fantasy II
Donkey Kong Country 2
Tetris & Dr. Mario
Secret of Mana

Genesis:
Shining Force
Shining Force II

N64:

Ogre Battle 64
Paper Mario
Worms Armageddon
Harvest Moon 64
Kirby The Crystal Shards
Bust-A-Move 99
Mario Tennis

PS1:

Elemental Gearbolt (complete, except for a damn Hollywood video sticker over the dics)
Front Mission 3 (complete, mint)
Castlevania Symphony of the Night (complete, GH, mint)
Tomba (complete, mint)
G-Darius (disc only, mint, but one of my favorite games ever)
SUIKODEN II (disc only, very near mint)

I'm going to hit up a couple more tomorrow, I'll let you guys know if I find anything special that doesn't make it's way into my pocket. Anything specific anyone was looking for?

Shit, I called that gamecrazy in milwaukee ave like on tuesday and wednesday and they told me that they don't have that game (suikoden 2)in stock and I shouldn't even bother looking around because none of the stores have them, ASSHOLES; but good find rocksolidaudio.

But I was able to get only a few games:

PSone:
Lunar Silver story complete
RPG Maker

N64:
Paper mario
Kirby

SNES:
Super Double Dragon

DC:
Record of lodoss war

Overall not bad but I'm not looking for more since I got all this:

Hey rocksolidaudio, if you can look out for these games, thanks.

Genesis:
Sorry to hear that Gameboy415! That was probably the last Suikoden 2 in the entire state.

A ha! Well at least it went to a fellow CAG and the fact that it wasn't complete does ease the pain a little ;)

If anyone's willing to brave the trip, there's an independent (meaning not in a Hollywood video....its about the size of a Gamestop) Gamecrazy across from Golf Mill mall that I "accidently" ended up at yesterday. (Long story short, I was looking for the Elston/Lawrence location and drove WAY too far North, lol)

No rarities to speak of but they had the biggest selection of GB/GBC games of all the 4 stores I scoped out if anyone's out for GB games! I might actually go back to all the stores today and see if I missed anything major. Good luck everyone!
those that i just mentioned were in the store as of friday around 12:30

one copy of VS was disc only, the other only had instructions
I got to that GameCrazy in Niles in the early evening. I would've left sooner, but I had some things to take care of first. (I know, I know... where are my priorities?) Because of the delay, I called the store up to see if the trip would still be worth it, and it turns out they originally had 3 or 4(!) copies of the game, one which just sold and another which may have been transferred to another location. At any rate, I get the last copy with instructions put on hold, and I get down there as soon as possible.

So what happened? I looked around for some PS1 gems, but the only copy of Marvel vs. Capcom was "defective," and the other Squaresoft games that interested me (FF Anthology and Xenogears) are disc-only and scratched/buffed pretty darn well. But Vagrant Story is in my hands (without an original case and insert, but with instructions and the accompanying Square demo disc), and I end up picking up Smash Brothers and Paper Mario (cheap reasons to pick up an N64 someday) to make the deal work. (I had to buy in sets of 3.)

Thanks for the heads-up, Apossum. I'm glad I stopped by. For anyone else that goes, there was another disc-only version of Vagrant Story left (you might want to call about it before you go), and they printed up the inventory lists for all the classic systems so you don't have to look through the stacks first. (Mighty handy when up-to-date.) Good luck, all.

We should do a game trade meet-up. Is anyone else interested in such an idea?

We'll if any can help me, I'm looking for these titles:

fatal fury (DC) (they had one in GC but it didn't work)
r-type delta (PSone)
M.U.S.H.A. (Gen)
gunstar heroes
Streets of Rage 3
X-com (ps1)
Starcraft 64

I have these for trade:

Paper mario
Kirby 64
Super star soldier
Lunar silver star
rpg maker
sonic cd
super double dragon

It would be cool to meet up on my house but I have a newborn and the wife will go crazy if we made noise.

-So we need a simple place to hang out and trade/chat . I was thinking a park, mall with arcade, or other.

-I work throughout the week until 7:00 p.m and I'm open on the weekends early.

If anything I need more feedback and maybe we can settle a nice place to do the swapmeet.
We should do a game trade meet-up. Is anyone else interested in such an idea?
I wanna go! Except I don't have anything worthwhile to trade.... doh. Oh yeah, I went and visited the EB in Evanston on Friday. Didn't get to see Richie there and I don't think you were there either rocksolid. But the girl that was working was pretty nice, she strikes up conversations like nothing. And you guys seem to like shrinkwrapping everything because almost everything over there was in plastic! Must get bored alot eh? ^_^

Hey dp84, come along anyways and bring whatever you have to trade because you might not think its good but I or someone else might :). It would be cool to meet a few of you. Also I wouldn't mind selling a few titles if the price is good. If you decide to come, on what days and times would it be cool for you?

I'm close to the Harlem Irving Mall and they have an Namco arcade next to the food court. Would that be a nice place to meet up?

I looked around for some PS1 gems, but the only copy of Marvel vs. Capcom was "defective,"

Liars! i got the one they had :) They said that to me about a whole bunch of games I was looking for. it was irritating-- i looked carefully through their PS1 rack, then went to the list, saw a bunch of things on the list that weren't on the rack and ask the guy for them. so he goes and looks through the whole rack again after seeing me look through the whole thing and then tells me they're all defective. Then he remembers that they also keep games in the drawer behind the counter. took about 20 minutes to get my games

Hey the blockbuster by milwaukee and foster had metal slug 3 ($22) and a few rumble roses ($20) and they were buy one get one half off. Also they still had the trade in three games get five dollars extra for each game in credit.

Hm, I won't be available this week or next week for a meet up. The HIP is fine for me for a meet up though. Also about your Lunar Star, is it the collector's edition? I recently just got one from EBay, but a friend of mine has been looking for the collector's edition, so he might be interested in buying.
