Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Just thought I would give my latest nightmare story from Rice Digital (UK):

I had pre-ordered God Eater 2 and SAO: Hallow Realization back in June/July when they went up at Rice.  I paid with Paypal.  Come last week, I contacted them wondering if they were ever going to ship, and they told me that they never got them in stock.  I just happened to be one of the people who didn't get contacted.  

I think they personally didn't want to eat the cheap shipping since they raised their rates.  Still waiting for the Paypal refund, but I already ordered off ebay for half the price ($95 at Rice vs. $59 for both at ebay).

Just more evidence that Steve at HeavyArm or PA will be getting my Vita purchases from now on.

 
Guilty Gear is $30, 50% off. Prime lightning deal. To my knowledge the game never had a price drop on a physical copy before, although you can pick the digital copy for almost half this price.

 
Ok, I'm just going to do a blanket list of (what I hope is most) of the Japanese shit from the Steam sale. I highly recommend you download Enhanced Steam for Firefox (Make sure you're on Firefox 50+) or Chome to add some features for the Steam store, such as pages telling you the lowest price the game has been and such. Alternatively you can go to IsThereAnyDeal.com and do it manually, but who in their right mind would do that?

I may or may not later on pick up a few lesser known games that are fairly decent later on today or this weekend. I may add more to this list should I come across it, but hopefully this covers most but I know it doesn't cover it all. It was easier than searching by genre honestly thanks to the larger selection than in the past and I really need to ask jshackles to add export to csv and I could make this much easier.

Wonder what the chances are that the WoFF will be the day one edition. Unlike most of the other day one titles, I know these have a separate upc. Hence why Walmart didn't have the day ones on sale.

Sorry, I have absolutely no idea. The gender is unisex though.

After browsing through their selection, they have no games that are listen as specifically Day 1, but there is a version of WoFF that is $60 and not on sale. So it's really a gamble here. Sorry again for not being much help.

Never ordered from them either, but people on a thread said their customer service is bad. But then again, they've had glitches for P4DAN CE and Dualshock 4s for like $30, and almost everyone got their's, and seem to be pretty content. So unless you are super strict about shipping or getting everything in grade A condition at the perfect times, they should be alright.

All games are new. You should get Senran Kagura Estival LE PS4 so we can play some boobies togethe- I mean play with some boobs togethe- I mean play the games while looking at boobies together? Nevermind... do get it though!

Yeah I saw that one, and the model # on that one matches the day one edition. They just don't have anything listed for the one on sale...might gamble it though and pick up Seran Kaguara to boot because being the only one without boobies on my vita makes me fell left out. :lol:

I've ordered a few things from Jet.com before. Can't say anything about the customer service since I didn't have a problem. My shipment came well padded and within a week, once in 2 days. Brand new and no problems.

Yeah, thank goodness for the "You purchased this item..." feature because it's definitely saved me from making duplicate purchases in the past. Luckily I don't ever have that problem with my art books since they all go up on display after I get them, but keeping track of my backlog is another story...

Your right. I was thinking of the twin pack that was release since similar packaging. But while it's a dual cart release in a single package, that's actually two different games each on their own cart. Where as the Gundam is same game split on two carts.

Word of advice, if you bought DQ Heroes on BF and it's the Day One Edition, the Day One DLC still works. The code on the card will say it expires 10/13/2016 but I just redeemed mine fine.

Got my FFXV UCE today instead of Tue (yay!) but it might be damaged =( I'm not sure if it's a cut or a seam on the Amano box (that holds the steelbooks & artbook), so if anyone who has their's (or will soon) and could please compare, I'd appreciate it =)

I got a game with a code recently, and it said the code was good for 10 years. I suspect that's probably true for all of these day 1 dlc codes.
 
This week is mostly Final Fantasy XV finally releasing. Technically you have Steins;Gate 0 too, but I don't think that there are many people who are more hyped for that. I mentioned I do something like this a few days ago, so below is a list of some of the more obscure or potentially lesser known games on Steam that may be worth playing to those of you who aren't revolted by PC gaming. They are not necessarily listed because of its discount. Here's the original Steam Sale post for a blanket list of a good potion of Japanese PC games that are on sale.

($3.99) [20%] A Healer Only Lives Twice
- An RPG that's kind of like a dungeon survival simulator. If you've played healers in MMO games, then this will probably interest you.

($0.74) [75%] Blade Kitten
- While critics didn't review this too favorably, it's a fairly decent and fun action platformer. Very cheap as well and the only platform that has the second episode available.

($4.99) [75%] Cloudbuilt
- This is a bit of a weird Mirror's Edge & Mega Man hybrid. Not outstanding, but certainly quite interesting to give it a look.

($16.99) [15%] CrossCode
- Still in early access and currently unlikely to make it to consoles. This is an extremely well made ARPG with some very solid and fun gameplay. There is a demo available for this title.

($3.74) [75%] Crypt of the Necrodancer
- Yes, it's also on console and not really Japanese. However the PC version can play custom soundtracks, which is rather nice.

($4.99) [50%] Hero and Daughter+
- Seemingly one of the better RPGMaker games on Steam and likely worth checking out. Well, so long as you aren't paying the full $10 for it. It unfortunately can sometimes error out at a certain common point.

($4.99) [50%] Long Live the Queen
- I like to call this a death simulator. It's a fun, but very weird visual novel where you need to reach your coronation without dieing. It's very easy to die and there isn't much replay value once you finally beat it. The developer, Hanako Games has a bunch of other weird titles that I won't be listing but are just as interesting as this one. All of which are highly rated despite being low budget indie games.

($3.74) [75%] Mark of the Ninja
- A very solid sidescrolling stealth action game. Technically not Japanese, but if you never bought it on the 360 then this is worthwhile.

($5.99) [40%] Mini Metro
- Ever wonder what it's like setting planning where to send all your metros? This simulation of angry peasants waiting for the local metro has you covered. There is also a demo on the developers website.

($6.99) [30%] Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight
- A fairly short metroidvania game that has very solid gameplay and controls. Technically it's a prequel to all the other entries in the series, so don't be afraid to play it before any others. Although the gameplay in the others is not as good as this one. If they ever get remakes with this gameplay/engine, then I'll easily recommend those ones too.

($4.99) [50%] Pharaoh Rebirth+
- A pretty solid indie metroidvania game. Not really much else to say.

($13.39) [33%] Slime Rancher
- You're a slime farmer and breeder. It's not a particularly difficult game (but I hope more difficulty/depth gets added as it's Early Access), however it's very fun and relaxing to play.

($9.99) [33%] Stardew Valley
- This is eventually coming to consoles, however it's a very solid game. If you're a fan of Harvest Moon then this title should not really be overlooked.

($2.49) [75%] To the Moon
- I haven't played it, however there are plenty of reviews that seem to love the game. Apparently it's pretty strong on the feels. Not really my thing, but I feel it should be on the list.

($2.49) [75%] War of the Human Tanks
- A Visual Novel & Turn-Based Strategy game hybrid. It's not particularly advanced in any way, but it's an amusing side game that has spawned two sequels.[/customspoiler]

($10.99) ICEY
- It just released, so there's no sale yet. However it has had a ton of positive reviews since its release and it looks to be a very solid sidescrolling action game.

($19.99) Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale
- For some reason it's not on sale, but it's a very solid and fun game. It focuses on two aspects, one of which is shopkeeping and the second is adventuring out into dungeons with some ARPG gameplay to acquire items to sell in your shop. Capitalism, ho!

($14.99) Secrets of Gindea
- Never been on sale to my knowledge, but I've played it quite a bit in the past and it's a pretty solid game. Definitely one to look out for down the road, especially since the online co-op works well.[/customspoiler]

If anybody has any to add, I can add them to the list as well.

Oh, nice! I had been wanting to pick this one up, but hesitated based on some of my other recent expenses. I ordered a copy with this sale. Not a huge discount of its regular retail price, but a solid price for a double-pack game.

I kinda want Fairy Fencer F. But apparently Iffy has a free shipping threshold, and $11 for shipping kills the deal IMO. I already bought the boobie mousepad game for full price (and if you pay for shipping there it's approximately the regular free shipping price...). I don't want any t-shirts or hats. I guess I'm passing on this deal.

Edit: Oh, if anybody is on the fence for MeiQ. I have to say, the valley of warmth mousepad is quite awesome. I am seriously considering getting a second copy for a spare, but uhh, I dunno.

Ah those Bestbuy sales are good. Have everything pretty much sans Mirage...though no WiiU....only want that for the mario 3d world game, mirage and tropical freeze. I doubt i'll ever play any of those unless they get ported to newer systems...
