Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

In terms of Persona 5, I'm all about Makoto....followed by Futaba. (Yes, I know I have bad taste  :whistle2:? )

Also, I played some Senran Kagura PBS over the weekend. Game is fun, but the whole shooter mechanic is completely different than any gameplay we have gotten used to before from the series. Movement seems kinda limited, which sucks since that means its not easy to get away from enemies blasting you with water. There is a directional dash though, but it uses water and only goes in straight directions. Neat thing in the game though is booster packs you earn/buy in-game. These are used for power ups, and the art for some is really cool. Anyways, despite some weird gameplay changes the game has been pretty fun so far.

Fire emblem heroes spam

Sacrificed 2 Arthur's to push my bst high enough to get in the 5k rank arena. Went from 4526 points to 4542 points and rank 55xx to 4145 which should definitely last until the season ends. Then why I try to pull for Minerva with my last orbs I get 2 Arthurs... this is the hero I deserved.
Didn't get any defenses for 5 days. I started sweating until I put in Reinhardt Gunter and Olivia and the defenses rolled in.
And for summoning news I got -spd Cordelia and -atk Camilla and 5* eliwood smh
And a better boon bane Nino after having promoted other nino to 5*
At least I got wings of mercy fodder in Cain and Frederick.

Is Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae worth picking up?
Probably not, honestly. Unless you really like having kind of bad games in your collection or really like the ('low grade') zettai ryouiki.

I like giving some bad games a home in my collection so I'll probably get it even though I've already played it digitally, but the game isn't that great. Look up some gameplay videos and you'll see it's fairly basic. Astebreed is much better, imo.

2 and 3 were good games, just different and on a platform most people didn't care about. If this sells well, they might remaster those or create additional sequels with the original gameplay.

Everyone worried we won't get a 5th Valkyria game while I'm here just hoping we'd get a sequel to Skies of Arcadia. Even a remake of the original would make me happy especially if it looks like the stage Rogue's Landing from Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed.

Speaking of which they also better make a sequel of that too and this time fucking add Hatsune Miku who was cheated out of that DLC poll.

...what is with all these pins in limited edition?

kingdom hearts pins, fire emblem pins, now valkyria pins.

i would have preferred a patch than a pin for valkyria.
You'll be the coolest waiter at TGI Friday's representing all those pins.

Got an email from WaterMelon about PAPRIUM. A brawler/RPG they're making for Sega Genesis. Anyone familiar with it? They sent me a 10% off code - 1877448. The website just has a countdown right now for tomorrow when they open orders.

This game is better than MK8. Too bad it wasn't as successful.

I liked what I played of 2 minus the divided up maps making the tank useless.
2 is good but anyone who wants a remake of it for consoles is crazy since it was designed for handheld with its repetitive mission structure and constant reusing of maps for grinding for materials and etc.

yeah, 2 would require a complete re-do on a console

I don't mind bad/repetitive gameplay, so long as the story is fun/good. Is that aspect of the game any good?

Not really. :| The game is also only about an hour long with most of that being combat, so the amount of story included is really minimal.

I don't think it'd be bad, but it's probably unrealistic to happen.

Pre-order for Valkyria Revolution is live on Amazon

Is that Confirmed Retail pricing for the PS4 version or is it a price mistake?

Will probably preorder now if its a pricing error, if not ill wait for the price drop since crash remastered comes out 3 days after and ill most likely be playing that first.

SEGA shows the price is $39.99 on their site, so, I would assume that is the right price

It's people like you that doomed the franchise!
Then tell Sega to make something like the original and not this weird Dynasty Warrior slash SRPG? wannabe. I played the demo and it was all kinds of weird imo. I will pick it up though since it's only about $32 with discount.

There is a demo? I'll check it out. The demo for the original VC is what sold me on the game. I played through it twice and I almost never even try let alone finish demos.

If you want similar action to Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae I'd recommend Croixleur Sigma. Think they're both arena fighters but this one is actually fun though extremely short.

i agree Sonic & sega racing is easily in my top 3 kart games. along with mario kart and 1# crash team racing.
honorable mention, beach buggy racing.
Crash Team Racing easily earns the top spot for my favorite kart game, and one that I still play often. Hell, it's one of my top PS1 games, period.

Here are tidbits from the magazine’s interview with the creators:

  • It’s a P.S. RPG (“Pai x Shiri”—“Breasts x Butt” in English).
  • Felistella, the developer, specializes in simulation RPGs. (Felistella developed Agarest Senki, Summon Night 5, and the Summon Night 3 and 4 PSP ports.)
  • They want to propose a new way to play with PlayStation 4.
  • The girl shown in the teaser trailer is a human, not a monster girl.
  • There will be a substantial amount of monster girls in the game.
  • A castle integrated with a tank will appear.
  • As for the difficulty, everyone will be able to play it.
  • Using two analog sticks… (Editor’s Note: That’s all this bullet says. Use your imagination.)
  • The message is that whether it’s breasts or butt, you can have it either way.
  • When something grows, the characters will also grow.
  • Cloth is also something they’re being particular about.
Sold!

Wonder if someone could mod that in the PC version?

Dynamic tracks, tons of racers, and Richard Jacques' pulse-pounding remixes (dat adder's lair) easily made it more fun than Mario Kart 8. And besides, to play this game you don't have to buy a Wii U for it!

All this talk of Kart games and no one mentions Diddy Kong Racing? Tsk, tsk.... :shame:
I was going to throw that one in, but you beat me to it. LOL

I thinks that's why I loved "Transformed" so much, as it's probably the closest I've gotten to Diddy Kong Racing since the N64 days. My top 3 would probably be Transformed, MK DS(for the challenge stages), and Diddy Kong Racing(N64 version).

Plus you don't have to deal with that shit Blue Shell, as that's reason enough for me to not play MK most of the time.

I just pre ordered it now cause I love the series.

Will they apple the Prime 20% off later?
I did the same to support the series.

As far as Prime discount, it seems rather hit or miss, with more emphasis on miss in my experience. I've had orders that added it later, but most orders never apply. I normally just cancel and re-order when the discount works since I don't want to deal with customer service. Although most of the time I just cancel and order at Best Buy. However, there's the rare chance you could get double discounted. Even moreso if you contact support now to manually add it, and it adds it again through the system automatically as well.

yeah, if it's a regular release I just cancel and re-order when the discount is live, less hassle
