Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

Wow forgot about Summon Knight 5....i actually got the LE (not in the mail yet) though I don't own a PSP (which i'll likely get just to play the Star Ocean 1/2 remakes....why aren't they on the PSN!!!).

I think i'm becoming sour on niche games again. The ones I've played lately have been a miss easily (Trillion, Euphoria, Tokyo Babel is heading towards a miss). There is a lot of quantity over quality right now. I just have to be smart and not fall for the niche hype and especially don't buy sequels/spin offs for games I haven't played in a while like the Atelier games, Neptunia games, etc....

Also pretty much finished Majikoi yesterday (good visual novel though I kind of disliked the route I was on yesterday). Just have one more main route....just a fun game where even in character paths you still see all your friends and all the side characters. Even non main characters are well developed enough such as the teachers. I also like how the paths each lead to new insights about the other characters, even ones you did the main path with. I will jump in the sequel soon....though I have already played that one enough to get one of the new ladies heh (well new as in romancable since all those characters I believe were in the last game as side characters). Just well done though sometimes the characters are just a bit over the top....like 
A father stealing his daughter and then you have to go like a seven deadly venoms fight to the daughter's room in Germany. Ridiculous but I caught the reference!
. Still heck a fun to play and I rarely get bored....pretty much the long drawn out fights bore me in the game, but they are far and between so it's not bad.

Ordered a MegaTagmension LE. Blanc is one of my favorites, so I see no reason not to.

Also, I'm in for the hat as well. :)

That Psycho-Pass LE looks pretty good too, I'll probably pre-order a bit later since that one releases in September.

Haha I just noticed that. I just checked now, even when I choose the Vita LE tag, it's still the same link. Oh well!

edit: I fixed the Vita link.

I also preordered the Vita version, as well as the Blanc LE. Can't wait.

Has anything been said that Atelier Sophie isn't getting a regular physical edition? I decided not to bite on the LE but see I still can't buy it on Amazon, Gamestop, etc.

so to be sure, vita LE is physical but standard is digital? and based on convenience, most people would want this on the vita instead of ps4 since this is a VN correct? nothing different in terms of whats in the game

should of just grabbed one when it was 20$.

Anywho tales of hearts r and digimon cyber sleuth are 2 of the best titles on there. Most of the other games are available elsewhere or are just enhanced ports sadly so the system may not be for you.

Yeah, got mine in as well. Loved the shipping box, but it's ruined as well. Probably will keep it anyways. Maybe try and make a shelf background with it.

 
I peeled the label off of mine with very little damage to the box. I'm not too concerned anyway because as mentioned it's a shipping box, but it is cool looking so I figure I'll keep it & maybe use it to store something.

Mine came the same way, and was surprised by that. I wasn't sure if that was supposed to be a special shipping box, or if they just cheaped out and slapped a label on the game's packaging. A quick bit of searching later, I found a post from Vic Ireland on Gamefaqs (assuming it's really him) where he says it's supposed to be special packaging for shipping, unannounced as being a bonus for purchasing directly from them, and meant to get the contents to you intact and "make the customer's experience better" by being a surprise in your mailbox. He seemed surprised that people liked the box enough to consider it a collectible, and suggested just taking a hair dryer to the sticker to peel it off.

I did just that, and the sticker came off pretty easily. The box itself was still pretty scuffed and dinged from the mailing process, but I guess it can't be helped since it's supposed to be a fancy shipping box, and not the actual game packaging. I'll be keeping it anyway, but they should've just made that the game packaging and shipped it in a normal shipping box like CE's from everyone else. Not sure why they thought people wouldn't consider it collectible, or why they bothered with this instead of another bonus with the game or something.

It is unique though, gotta give them that, probably the fanciest box I've ever gotten in the mail!

Here are some pics of the in a shared Album. Really upset by this. It might not be a ce box, but it's nicer looking than 90% of the actual ce boxes that i get.

Everyone's shipped the same, and yours looks alright from the pictures. I was able to peel the shipping label carefully off mine so you might be able to do the same.

For what it's worth it wasn't ever advertised as coming with a collector's box, so it's just a bonus that they spruced up the packaging a bit.

Mine actually came in AMAZING shape but the sticker is really on there. Gonna try to dig out the heat tomorrow and peel it off.

 
Seriously thinking of biting the bullet and getting both mr happy editions of Gal Gun 2.

On one hand, the ps4 version will look much better, run at 60 frames per second having no slowdown but i dont think it has MOVE support....

on the other hand, having the touch screen on the vita to fire with better accuracy would be nice...but not as much going on due to hardware limitations....but its portable!  Which i think fits this game well.

Its hard for me to choose just one version so yeah...i might need to get both ><
