Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

Check your shipping. I noticed it and a couple of other games didn't have one, and it turns out they were shipping standard instead of two day. When I changed them it went to release day delivery. I have no idea how it happened because normally all my orders are default two day when I make them.
Nope 2 day. Just says they'll email me when its available

I'm tired of reading about Kickstarter updates every day on sites I frequent. It's anti-news. It's annoying advertising spam and the people that champion it are obnoxious shills. If people care about the KS then they are already following it. Kickstarter needs to go away.

Also if it takes three tweets to say it, then it doesn't fuck ing belong on Twitter. /oldmanout

Surprisingly, this patch sounds like it's going to bring a number of welcome improvements to MGO. Sure, most of this should have been implemented day one, but at least there's an attempt to improve it.

On an unrelated note, been playing Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Oh, how I freaking hate this game. It wasn't even worth the $20 for the PS4 version.

Did Time and Eternity used to be on PSN, or did it get removed at some point?

..Or is my search just lying to me? I have a physical copy, but wanted to see what kind of extras there might be if any.

EDIT: Found it, but it looks like the page is just there for previous purchasers to download again. Another small victory for physical media, I suppose.

You can still get the PSN digital code from Amazon for $9.99, for what it's worth.

What's so bad about it?
Xenoverse starts out fun and the 'create your own character' aspect is interesting, but the gameplay quickly becomes monotonous. Even online play can get tiresome. You really need to grind in order to level up your character to beat the main campaign and side quests and, at times, this can become both repetitive and insanely time consuming (the gameplay is so stagnant and limited that doing so isn't fun). I understand the need for some level grinding (even though it's my most disliked aspect of gaming in general), but the difficulty spikes are huge, requiring hours of level increasing to continue. And, once you do level up enough, these is no challenge whatsoever. You can literally spam one button and win every match. There's no happy medium.

The game also has a bunch of levels where you need to prevent an A.I. controlled teammate from being KO'd. This is the equivalent of an escort mission and, unfortunately, there are numerous levels like this in the game--and the A.I. is just awful (when the A.I. is your teammate it's brain dead, but against you it's cheap).

I appreciate the developer's attempt at crafting a "new" story (sort of). However, I'll take the Tenkaichi titles and, hell, even Raging Blast over this. I felt those earlier games were a better representation of the source material, whereas Xenoverse strives to be more like a very limited MMO. The lack of over-the-top special moves, beam struggles, and multiple transformations is disappointing--on top of the repetitive gameplay. Oh, and once you go Super Saiyan, you can spam special/ultimate moves repeatedly until your ki runs out, making spammers online a royal bitch.

I'm sorry that the estimated delivery date for this order is not displaying properly in Your Account. Rest assured that we are processing your order.

After investigating your order, it looks like we'll be able to ship it within two business day after release of the item.

When your order is shipped, we'll send you an e-mail confirmation.

Your patience and understanding is highly appreciated. I hope this helps!

I have a game related question for those of you that have Deemo for the Vita. I can't find any info online about how or when the after story unlocks. My tree is at 20m and I can't seem to advance anymore. Do you have to attempt each song on all three difficulties or is there another trick? Thanks in advance!

Decent week and another Japanese indie game has surfaced on Steam, outside of Playism. There was also Magic Potion Explorer last week as well that popped up randomly. Though it hasn't been received too well.

You forget the power of the Japanese Niche gamers, who spend hundreds of dollars on limited edition prints of games they don't really like that they'll never open just because they might become rare.

I still pity all the people that bought the Sorcery Saga LE.

it makes me so sad. I'd love a new console .hack game. Or a 3ds one. It'd also be kind of them to remember they have the 7 old games they could put on psn.
I'm just kind of mad the the age of HD collections has completely ignored .Hack.

Especially since I don't own them all in order, and would really like to finish the series.

I might buy it being a Miku fan. Anything else worth buying on CDJapan?
If you're a Fire Emblem fan, you can preorder the Fire Emblem If (Fates) OST or any of the other ones available (Awakening or 25th Anniversary).

I'd still recommend to listen to the music even if you haven't played the games. The soundtracks are that good. Some of the best for video games in my opinion.

For those of you who preorder at BBuy, I noticed they updated their preorder kiosk. You use to be able to preorder games that weren't available at your store, in store using the kiosk, even if the store isn't going to receive stock. Tried to get Aegis of Earth for Tuesday and the register just said unavailable for purchase.

Speaking of which, anyone picking up Aegis of Earth this Tuesday? (Metropolis Defenders...) Have to wait till Thursday for it to arrive from Amazon.

I just finished marathoning the Arslan anime. I was wondering how far does the game go in terms of story? Does it just cover the first season or does it go further?

I actually got good use out of it. I used the bib on my younger son when he was a baby, and the spoon and plate are still in his utensil rotation.

It was a shitty bib though, no easy clasp and no plastic lining to keep his neck dry.
