Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

I always enjoy the occasional story from someone on here who tries to return something to Gamestop and gets denied because it's not a new game if it's still sealed in plastic.

You see, I avoid that by never returning anything and just despising it while it sits in my collection.

BlackRockWaifu I dun a bad thing. I decided to return the Trails of Cold Steel(PS3) LE so I took it to the 86st gamestop to exchange the unopened LE for a vita version. The gamestop manager(big fat guy) said he needed to open the shrink wrap to verify the contents. I was almost gonna stop him but it'd make me look suspicious. So he took off the shrink wrap and opened it. Now there's a gutted cold steel LE(ps3) at the 86st gamestop. I swear I didn't touch her anywhere under the shrink wrap! But I can't speak for what sick molestation the gamestop employees subjected her to after I left.
That's some heartless sh1t bro

You should've softly uttered the words BlackRockWaifu to the guy and then do a wink and a hush sign to make him understand as to why not to do that. Also, that feel when you don't live in the same city as BlackRockWaifu to play video games with.

I'm okay with it if the parents are there.

Can we get the Western version edited so parents are there for all the dates?
And since knowing Persona and the whole daddy issues/no parents dilemma, we just shouldn't be able to date half the characters due to no supervision

They sold out of Gessen literally right away, They also didn't have the 2 better sets available from the get go...

They really screwed up in the printing run.

I ordered just 1 set then read about the $20 minimum, wonder if they'll refund me eventually since I doubt they'll ship.

So I guess this is a thing we're doing.

It actually looks like it could belong on the She-Rulk statue.

Since Mighty No.9 finally has a release date, here is a reminder for those of you who want a physical Vita version(since it got no love in the US), as it is multi-language release and priced at 29.99 + shipping of course.

http://www.play-asia.com/mighty-no9-multi-language/13/708y3z
Didn't the portable versions get delayed even longer? As much as I want a physical copy, I think with all that has gone on I'm going to wait to play the game a bit before going through the hassle of importing a vita copy.

Kinda feel like this whole card thing is a big scam. They can easily call up the manufacturer and get some more printed. I know I'd pay at least $30 for the entire set. I'd put on my cubicle at work, really creep out the "normies" lol.

I wasn't aware of the portable delay, but that does seem to be the case. No release date is given for the Vita or 3DS, but I've had my Play-Asia order for awhile now, so no big deal either way. They don't charge until it ships, so if it sits in gaming limbo for awhile, I'll continue to wait.

I'm not to worried about the games quality, while I'm not to sure if it will be awesome or not, I'm pretty sure it will be an average MM clone at least, and that's good enough for me. If it turns out to be a great title, that's just icing on the cake.

Don't know if XSeed still does this or not, but when you order from their store, add a note to your order when you are checking out. I'd always put something along the lines of "Thanks for being so awesome" and both times they sent me a few extra goodies from their inventory. Some were even mini soundtracks that weren't listed for sale. Can't hurt to try!

I kinda hate the Xseed store. It doesn't show if stuff is in stock when stock does pop in and out, it has a (broken) international shipping calculator but they don't ship outside of the USA, and if I just try to ship my stuff to a US address they block my order because they refuse payments from non-US Paypal accounts.

So to order something from them I need to verify stock, gift the required Paypal funds to an Amerifriend, have him place my exact order and have it shipped to my US address, then drive down to the USA to collect my stuff. Way too many hoops there, it's more convenient to buy stuff from eBay resellers...

Sadly, I caught this post too late and the only packs available are the Special and Overseer packs. Each pack is $5 and there is a $20 minimum purchase requirement.

Wanted Gessen pack the most...

Damn, annoyed I missed it as I had been checking their site every once in a while. Guess there was little chance getting the first two available sets though. Of course, Crimson, the set I wanted wasn't even available -_-

Going by their blog, it seems like poor sorting/organization in packing meant that some cards were over used compared to others, even though the two left over sets had the smaller print runs (10% compared to 20% of the total) they still wound up with most of them left over.

I placed an order for the two available sets, but I'm guessing it will be canceled. Hopefully they put up something I want in their online store so I can get them in the future.

Not too worried about the stock of the last two packs. If they really did a print run of 10k, I wouldn't be surprised if they had literally hundreds of packs left.

Thanks for the notice about TMS @ BB!

In case anyone wanted to preorder One Piece: Burning Blood from Bandai Namco for the metal case but was turned off by the high shipping rates, I checked again today and saw that both 2-day shipping and overnight shipping are free (this was for the Marineford Edition for someone in the contiguous US - may be the same for the regular edition).

https://www.bandainamcoentstore.com/product/316540/one-piece-burning-blood-marineford-edition-playstation-4
Man, that shipping stopped me cold a few weeks back and at the time if it had been free I would have preordered no hesitation. Now...my gaming cc is weeping in the corner. :p This seems like something that will become scarce later on tho, not one that's likely to have major price drops. Is that the impression you guys have on the set?

EDIT: On second thought, after watching some early reviews of the Japanese version & some newer trailers I don't think there's enough "meat" on this game for me regardless. I was thinking/hoping it was more like the Naruto Ninja Storm games but it appears to be more of a straight-forward fighting game with a fairly short story mode.

Voltron is always cool.  I mean, his shows usually aren't great but Voltron is awesome enough to make them worth watching regardless.

This is kinda a ridiculous statement as the major exposure of Voltron *is* the shows. Yet, I agree wholeheartedly. The non "Voltron kicking ass" portions of the shows are very dry, but I watch for that moment you hear those words "form feet and legs...."

They actually mentioned that you could do that to request a pack of the cards if you were buying something else from the store (like a game).
