Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

CeeCee from Natsume has posted on their Twitter that the River City Rumble listing will go live on the 27th through "Natsume's Amazon Store". I'm assuming this means it will be fulfilled by Amazon and so no 20% off for Prime members...

It looks to me like Natsume will be selling it through Amazon as a third party seller...just because there is a listing does not mean it will be sold by Amazon.com.

Iffy's online store did the same thing with the HN Rebirth 1 LE back in the day.

Thanks! My MeiQ is getting to me tomorrow, so I'll get to add these sometime in two months when I finally get to play it, lol. I'm almost through my first Trails of Cold Steel playthrough, and I plan on starting II as soon as I finish the second one. MeiQ intrigues me. I'm a fan of dungeon crawlers, and what I've seen so far from youtube plays, it looks pretty good. I'm hoping to get in on Limited Run Games' release of Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics.

Yeah what I've seen it looks kind of generic with generic dungeons.....boobie mousepad was aight though the image could be clearer on it.

Need to try the One Way Heroics demo out too to see if I try for a LRG copy.

I sadly tend to enjoy those types of games. Perhaps its a break from a large storyline where I just play and have no adverse outcomes? Plus they tend to have somewhat east platinum trophies and I like seeing the trophies pop up. Of course that sort of reminds me of an episode of Always Sunny.

This guy gets it. Phenomenal game.

The only better board game on consoles is Culdcept and we unfortunately don't get treated to very many entries stateside.

I love dungeon crawlers myself. I somewhat dislike Compile Hearts (so many meh games....and yes I include Neptunia games there....though they are more like meh+). I will play it for sure.....just heard mixed things about it. I do hope it's one of the slightly better Compile Hearts games.

 
Update on my Zero Time Dilemna watch situation. I had changed the shipping speed which changed the expected the delivery date to today. The results are it did jack shit. So I fired off an email to Amazon support to see what can be done about this. Pretty ridiculous that only people who have received their game already are able to get their watch and people who haven't even received the game are stuck in limbo.

Why didn't some buyers games get shipped? Was any reason ever given?

Yeah, I had 2 orders originally, and right before the game was due to launch, I cancelled one order, as I just didn't want to deal with trying to get to many watches, as I figure some shit like this would happen. LOL

I never contacted them, and they never really contracted me, and they just shipped the games when the wanted, and then the watches would come later. I never saw or got an option for anything other than what it was when I ordered.

They did contact me once, to say the watches would be delayed, and as an apology, they sen't me those $10 credits for the wait. Other than that, my order was pretty much by the book.

 
So, umm. VGP just dropped a package in the mail for me, they say it's my Criminal Girls 2 LE. The release date is still October 11th, right? Shame I'm just going to shove a game into my backlog when I get it 3 weeks early...

Seems like VGP already shipped out other's packages as well, so doesn't seem like a hard street date.

It feels like they only pushed back the release date so they could manufacture more copies, and in the meantime had picked up an extra distributor in Gamestop.

Hopefully this eventually spills over to other retailers too eventually.

You're probably right. I just got a shipping notice from VGP as well.

 
Finally got my shipping notice for Psycho-Pass (along with Touhou which will be shipped with it) from NISA, so it'll probably get here next week maybe. Eh, I can't complain since I chose the free shipping.

Also ended up impulse buying the Persona 5 20th Anniversary Edition. I'm pretty sure I will see spoilers of the game eventually no matter what, so I might as well play along. Plus that soundtrack looks amazing.

Also, you guys mentioning VGP makes me want to order the Criminal Girls 2 LE from them. Especially since they have free international shipping.... Decisions...

I played the demo for Mystery Chronicles: One Way Heroics on the Vita. Was really alright, though it was feeling ultra repetitive already. I liked it enough,  but this pretty much guaranteed that I wont be likely pursuing an LRG copy. It seems like an OK game though, but with my October having more stuff, this one is getting pushed to the wayside, and I'll get the game likely later when it gets a sale. Wasn't that impressed, though it was funner than I thought it would be.

 
So amazons customers service reps solution to my zero time dilemna situation was to change my shipping speed to same delivery. Charge me for same day delivery without even telling me. And the game/watch still doesn't get shipped out. What a headache.

Possibly. Or it just wasn't as well received. On top of the issues like being digital only vita wise unless you import, engrish translation, 70 hours long, piss easy, grindy if you want to get mons, some bosses are locked to dlc. Trophies numbers wern't a good sign either though they are significantly larger now than they were when I beat it shortly after launch. Think 35% people beat the game. Which was up from 24%.

I liked it well enough. I was sad that the ghost girl and organ harvesting parts of the story go nowhere though. I mean why even have them in there if you just drop them like that?
