Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

apparently it didn't live up to expectations in jp but makes since since they have been pushing out half games with the full versions released in a kiwami verison or something the next year, at least i don't have to fret over importing it, same with peach splash since i saw it up on amazon for preorder days ago, now hopefully that drive girls game coming out in europe and more info if xseed will bring over the school girl slasher

Sekai Project Humble Bundle is nitrosmob approved. I was missing a bunch of those. I think there are 18+ patches avaliable for the NekoPara games and the Karakara one.

 
Oh man, Sekai Project Humble Bundle filled out a lot of what I was missing for a few series. I am excited. Got some duplicates though, what's the easiest way to give them to everyone else? Just paste the gift link? My Steam already identifies them as being in my library so I can't see the key.

If you click on the "Redeem on Steam" button it will ask you if you're sure you want to reveal the key. Might just be easier to make a gift link and give that away. Either way should work.

Also this is more of a personal preference thing, but I don't ever do key drops anymore. A lot of time people (or bots) will snatch them up without so much as giving thanks. I typically post the names of what I have, and I PM the Steam key/gift link to the people who post asking for the specific game (first come, first served usually). It takes a bit longer, but I feel better about doing it that way personally.

Given the install base, it is almost certainly going to come to the PS4. Vita would be more up-in-the-air, but it would seem likely given the fact that the Japanese release will be going to both platforms, and most Vanillaware releases have shown up on the Vita in the West.

I'm a huge fan of Vanillaware's output, so this is very exciting for me. Can't wait to see more news about this title.

I bought fault milestone 1 last week and beat it over the weekend(5hours) but I don't regret that since I got it for a good price and really enjoyed the story. Well worth the price here.

 
Friendly reminder there's only 2 weeks left until Koei Tecmo removes the 4th Season Pass of DOA5 along with the Fairy Tale Costume Pack on June 20th. While there's been no signs of the 4th Season Pass or the Fairy Tale and Attack on Titan packs going on sale before they're removed there will be a promotion on PSN starting Friday June 9th until June 20th where if you spend $100 during that time period you'll get $15 back on July 5th. So if nothing happens by the last day I guess you could try taking advantage of this promotion and kind of get some benefit back. Just keep in mind the Season Pass is $93 so you'll still need to find some extras to reach the $100 mark.

Yeah seems either extremely hypocritical/out of touch with gamers or a lacking in context quote. Like games are classics for many reasons not just graphics. I don't think he would understand why Smash Melee is still played competitively to this day.

There's a patch in the works and most of the issues are just with matchmaking, once you get into an actual game the connection is pretty great. The game is also excellent as well, Tekken 7, Injustice 2, and GG Rev 2 are probably the best fighting games released in recent times, and all came out around the same month. I definitely recommend getting it as soon as the first price drop or so, while the game is still hot and the community is full of fresh players. Such an awesome game, accessible yet full of depth. Eliza is also an awesome character, jumped up to my favorite fighting game character of all time, or next to Nine from BlazBlue.

I also see a bunch of the Niche thread regulars playing the game, Elessar, Midori, etc. Would love to get a lobby going sometime.

You found an Ar Tonelico copy at a Gamestop? It's probably worth getting just for collecting purposes, especially when it's only $10, $5 with coupon. If it's with the original case, then it's a complete steal. There's one an hour away from me, I might consider getting it so you better hurry if you live in NY.

Nice that we're getting Blue Reflection, I remember talking to Vic or Ed about it not coming to the States. Hope we get a Collector's Edition, or at least a physical run.

True, but we get/got 2 Yakuza games this year (0 and Kiwami) so the wait makes sense.

Can't believe I didn't know about the new Vanillaware game until now. So hyped!

No, I mean in the past years at E3 Atlus would have a guest signing art prints like George Kamitani or Shigenori Soejima. The details would be printed on those badge cards but it looks like they aren't doing it this year.

Nice! I may just have to bite the bullet and get it now. If it wasn't for Injustice 2, I'd probably cave right away...but I'm seriously hooked on that game. It's easily one of the best fighters I've played in years.

As for Tekken 7, the Eliza gameplay footage looked awesome. I can definitely see using her as my main fighter (maybe Alisa too).

Yeah, I absolutely love Injustice 2, I might even give that game a perfect 10 for a fighting game, and in a few ways it's better than Tekken 7, especially in terms of single player content. But after playing Tekken 7 I just cannot put it down, not even to play Injustice. I regret not getting Injustice earlier, and that both games came out so close to each other.

Yeah, Eliza is incredibly sexy, easy to play, and a pretty strong character. Plus she has a Kurumi Tokisaki alternate costume, so she's waifu #1 now.

There's a 2x XP event for Overwatch this weekend, to mark the end of the Anniversary event. I know what I'm gonna do all weekend now. June 8-12th.

Yup the GS near where I work has the only copy of Ar Tonelico 3 in this whole area according to the website when I was looking at everything <$9.99, dunno if it's CIB or not tho, saw reviewers mentioning u can turn off the Purge animation sequences in settings or whatever to make battles go faster, which is great coz they're way too scandalous lol, still can't imagine bringing it up to the register to buy tho roflmao... I saw people saying they felt embarrassed if they were caught playing the game o_O it must be terrible LOL...maybe I'll get an associate who doesn't know what it is if I end up getting it... And not in NY, so u can have the NY copy lol.

AT3 has been one of those games I've almost started at least 10 times. I'd always peruse through my backlog and would consider it, then start something else. It looks like a good GUST game, and I really enjoyed Ar Nosurge and some of the Atelier games. I might have to break out the PS3 and do some remote play to my Vita.

 
So the main story for Ao no Kiseki has been translated, but not the sidequests. So at some point we'll see a fan translation of that. I have pretty good faith in Zero's translation project with Gu4n and floofy, but I hope Ao gets some good editors and someone does the sidequests. I know Gu4n said there's no way in hell he's doing this for Ao after taking some time with Zero because it was more work than he originally thought. So there's hope if XSeed doesn't somehow pull those two games out of their ass and release them in the west.

Here's the latest update on the Zero no Kiseki fan translation as well. Got posted since the old translation got put out there in a patch on 4chan. So fair warning since there's some drama ranting in it.

I'll probably also post some brief thoughts on Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception, Dragon Quest Heroes II and Fire Emblem Echoes at some point soon. Possibly even today.

Guessing Materia is an original character (with a dumb name haha).

So far 2 games off my E3 checklist at least. I'm not sure how many more will be fulfilled.
