Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

When you miss the SNES preorders you waited literally almost an entire week for to go up....

because they decide to put them up on a random friday night weeks later. 

Yea....if i dont snag a BB or Amazon order im just gonna call it on this one.

Not trying to kill myself for this because of  "Nintendo Shortage"®

I'll continue playing all these games on my N3DS, WiiU, Vita and Phone for free since nintendo wont take my money for them.

Out of the loop since Im in another country with unreliable wifi, so Im just post some of my musings.

Idolmaster VR coming to the West: Thats great and all. But will I ever get an English version of Platinum Stars? Probably never. An Asia english ver wouldve happened by now.

Arc System Works Crossover: Im totally in. Persona 3 Protagonist when?

Song of Memories coming to the West: It finally happened. A galge finally coming to fking consoles after all this time. Not Otome. Not Sci fi. Just a galge. Oh boy.

Hack remaster: I guess they finally listened. Lol or were planning it all along.

didnt know either, bought the tank edition when it was cheap years ago, fun game but never finished, left it to back log, always hoped it would come west, maybe with the ps4 game coming out their will be a chance

Honestly, that's the way to go. If you can get in on a proper preorder, it's all good, but knocking yourself out for this, when as you stated, you can play everything elsewhere, why go through the headache?

The Super Famicom is my personal favorite system of all time, and I almost preorder the EU option a few times, and then I had to catch myself, as there is no way I'll ever plug this in and use it, as I have so many other more convenient options to play these games as well. I actually skinned my N3DS to match the Super Famicom, and I would probably buy the N3DS XL themed model before buying the Mini, as I would actually use that as well.

And on a side note, I love your avatar gif. I swear, every time I see one of your post, I sit and stare it for at least a minute or two each time. LOL

I feel the same, The SNES is my favorite console of all time, followed by the ps2 as a close 2nd.

It also happened to be the first console i ever owned, since i grew up in the 90s.

The hours i spent playing Super Mario All-Stars, DKC 1-3, and Super Mario Kart is what made me a gamer.

I want this just purely for the nostalgia for me and my family. Other than that im not gonna be going through the ringer for this because all these games are easily accessible to me. Just like with the NES classic.

In the end, ill just buy 2 of the SNES controllers, hook them up to wiimotes, turn on my Wiiu and run Retroarch or my injected VC SNES games.

It's literally the same thing, and arguably better.

HDMI, No tethered remotes to the console, Complete library of games already available.

or i can use my N3DS that has the same set up of Retroarch + Injected VC games, Carry over my saves and play them on the go.

My son hasn't shown any interest in the SNES Mini, which is good, as I'm sure he is more concerned with getting a Switch this year, as he hasn't touched the NES Mini in ages.

While the SNES has superior games over the NES, I think my son just realized he isn't much in to the older games. But I do plan to set his Wii U up to run those past games, so that way we he doesn't even need to wonder about what he may or may not be missing.

I would for sure get this for the nostalgia as well, and if I can ever get one easy, and at normal prices, I'm not against it at some point. But for now, I'm just avoiding it, as to not deal with all the insanity surrounding it, as it's already nuts, and I see no good end to this in sight. LOL

For anyone who's beaten Lightning Returns, the 1st commercial might not even be a commercial. At first it looked like they were making a VR driving game, which is appropriate for the VR fishing game they are releasing.

Also, wasn't Lightning a Louis Vuitton model before? And Noctis did gigs for Cup Noodles. They must not have been paid royalties if they gotta take side jobs like this.

Nothing particularly special releasing this week, but I'm sure there's at least one person here who is looking forward to a release this week. There are a couple other games releasing this week that seem to be visual novels with self-proclamations that they have thousands of achievements. They also seem to be using stolen assets, so I'll not be listing them. Seriously though, apparently the achievements are for just letting the game run for X amount of time. Wat.

Whoa, you mean an official western release and not Asia with english subs? That would be really surprising considering Bamco's stance on releasing imas in the west. It wouldn't sell that well in the west tbh.

 
Wagama High Spec....will get if 18+ version. Denpasoft recently upgraded their website and everyone has to re-register and you lost your downloads right now. Stupid, stupid, stupid. It's sad that I hope Nutaku has Wagamama High Spec 18+. Also i'm not 100% sure if 18+ is releasing alongside Steam version. Just Denpasoft not getting out news....amateur hour.

Loving Splatoon 2 like the original but not liking that they (at least for now) aren't adding any new PvP modes.

That promo reads as though the only exclusive one is the Build Fighters one. The other two are part of the dlc, but they are not listed as exclusive.

Edit: A couple other things after catching up on the thread.

Switch games don't have couch co-op; haven't you guys been watching the commercials? They have "random rooftop party co-op" and "vague, way too empty garage co-op."

I hope that anyone that puts on a VR helmet while I'm driving will enjoy Virtual Left on the Side of the Road.

I was talking about an Asia Eng release, which we shouldve gotten by now if that were the case.

Im grounded enough to know it doing well in the West is a dream. Although I can imagine it sell more than fking Digimon Rumble All Stars.
