Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

nice to have the dmc 5 confirmation. 

Tales of wise I guess no news is good news.  Most people already knew they wouldn't be announcing anything until at least next year since development is about 2-3 years between console gens and we are due for a new engine again after 4 games using xillias graphics engine, monster animations ect.  Whatever the new game is it will be the first ps4/switch/pc and such game developed for those in mind where as zesty and berseria were all developed for the ps3 first and in the formers case it didn't get a ps4 version until after it was localized.

It's a shame people got their hearts set on legendia r over nothing.  I do want a legendia r myself though.  And a sequel taking place in the mainland.  Hell they could throw another sequel for the ferines considering they live in the ocean and our blue is like 90% water.

Has anything been said in regards to 4K/HDR support for Tales of Vesperia on Xbox One X? Can't decide what platform I want to buy it on. If there's no 4K support I'd rather buy it on the Switch.

 
A character named Nelke in Atelier Firis was translated as Nerke so don't get too comfy with that name. Then again they changed translation companies.

Bit skeptical about the Kill La Kill game since it is not ArcSys working on it but APlus, the studio responsible for the recent LWA game. LWA Chambers of Time got lukewarm reviews and I hope this game turns out well for the most part

Mangagamer put up 2 VNs about two weeks ago. Put it off reporting on them but they look kind of somewhat low quality to me.

The Wilting Amaranth is a yuri VN about 3 women whose fates are overlapped in a witch's tower.

As put before Happymaher is up for pre-order and comes out 07/12/2018 with a pre-order discount to $40.45. This is about lucid dreams that occur to the main character after an accident occurs. Easily going to pick this up.

They just sent out the demon summoning app codes, I installed the beta, but it doesn't officially start until tomorrow at 20:00 pacific time.

Trails (or legend of heroes) selling well means nothing if they never get released over here. And Tokyo Xanadu was poorly received here in the west so I'm surprised to see this.

And I wish they would just kill the 3ds and move all those resources to the Switch

I like the look of it and would have bought Tokyo Xanadu but they followed up the Vita release with an expanded PS4 release that came out in Japan before the Vita version even got an English translation. That's a quick way to kill my interest in a Vita version, and the PS4 version is dropping in price very quickly so there's no reason to jump on that either. If they do continue releasing the games they'll probably do a better job of planning that stuff out.

I didn't touch the Vita version of Tokyo Xanadu for that reason, similar to Akiba's Trip Vita. I'm almost done with the PS4 version myself. It's not a terrible game by far, just a bit generic, and the story a bit boring in a way. Gameplay is a bit repetitive as well, but generally well done. I am glad they'll think of continuing the series though. It has potential for sure.

The end of the year and the first few months of next year are so insanely packed, no chance I will get everything I want. Forget the money part of it, not enough time in the day lol.

 
Oh God my wallet is already crying from all the games I've pre-ordered. Recently decided I was going to try and play through my backlog but l o l that is not getting done anytime soon. I can't even remember all the games I've pre-ordered. The one I'm most excited for though is Fist Of the North Star that wins out all

Yeah, some games I'm interested in won't be bought at launch simply due to lack of time and I normally don't even work 40 hours a week or have a family to deal with. Valkyria Chronicles 4 is one that I'll most likely be waiting on but probably would have bought day one if it released during a slower time. I would love to see more major releases scheduled during the June-August window.
