The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

I feel ya on Assassin's Creed.  Awesome setting but not my cup of tea.  (Love/hate with AC2 and Brotherhood, and I haven't gotten further than that, but I'm sure excited to play IV some day!  I'm being a cheapass about it and waiting for Steam sales on Revelations, III and IV.  Don't think anything could get me to play the first one though.)

Technically it is, but you're guaranteed NOT to get the bonuses that most retail copies normally come with.
There were vanilla copies on day 1 and most copies in the wild are vanilla.

Why? Does Newegg have some special edition?
Back when PXZ first released, several people were hyped and bought from them due to the discounted rate. NewEgg sent the game, but it wasn't the first edition that they were expecting (some say promised, though NewEgg screwed up a bunch of things). So you don't get an OST, poster and art book, though none of those things were awesome. In fact, the art book has more comedic value than collectors value.

Not very likely. :p

Ys still doesn't have reviews on most sites and Sorcery Saga is way more niche.
Y's definately has some a sizable number, but it's also a longer game where the review isn't terribly important. Sorcery Saga will suffer a similar fate, though I doubt many people are going to be swayed by reviews unless they're SUPER bad and FAN supported.

I suppose I feel like if it's even just decent, it will be an instant purchase for me.  I just wanna make sure it's just tepid or crappy.  Hometown Story is tepid and crappy.  I'll be darned if I'm gonna take a risk again!

Do American even eat curry? ;/
Not much curry where I live, unfortunately (North Dakota, very center of the North American continent), but I LOOOOOOVE curry! We do have a thai place in town with some great curry. Yum.

My fiancee makes curry, but she's British to be fair, and they have a lot of curry in the UK. :)

I live in LA, Bay Area previously. I've traveled to places like Ohio where I can barely find a edible Chinese/Japanese food...  I took some local coworkers to a Teppanyaki place in Ohio and ordered also ordered some sushi and specifically ordered some unagi for them (cuz its cooked).  All 3 of them had never had eel before... one refused to try. one took it home to show his wife...

So ya, sure we have Curry House in Cali and all, but I wonder for the other parts of US, would they even know what JP curry looks like or just make fun/reference to its color...

It's there, but not a lot of it, no. :) It is mostly white people when you get away from the coasts, and that means white people food.

It's going to vary from place to place. In my "local" area, there are a two Japanese markets (decent quality stores, not some super cheap Chinese dive sort of deal) that sell a lot of things like this. I am sure the demographic is at least aware of what it is, but I don't think it will be well received in many ways due to it.

Indian curry is the best, followed by Thai curry, and then Japanese curry.

Garlic naan and chicken tikka masala man, good stuff.
Whoa man. You really think I'm gonna sit here and let you rank curry? Pff. You are not the curry god! It's not for you to decide!

I might actually agree with your ranking, though. But gosh, I really really really really love both Indian and Thai curry. Ugh I want some so bad. I could list the Indian dishes I like, but I can never remember what is what. :) I think I like paneer a lot.

I hope the game doesn't just make me desperate for curry the whole time I play it. :( Like I am now.

^Tandoori chicken is also amazing

I just wish Indian Curry wasn't so expensive around here in SoCal. Japanese curry isn't too expensive, but the place I go to, is kind of far from my house.

Yeah, it's pretty absurdly priced here, too, and hard to find. Oddly, we have two Thai restaurants in my town, but no Indian.

Just start with the lowest skilled songs on the easiest setting, then work your way up. Don't move on until you finish a song because you will learn the pattern.  Also make sure you get the BIG-ASS star.

edit: also, don't be white

I just started playing it myself. If anyone has any tips I'd appreciate it. So far I'm not that into it.
It's a music game, so after sampling all the tracks you just play until you like it or play until you can't stand it anymore.

I think I got around 6 hours of gameplay out of it before realizing I'd have more fun just watching Vocaloid MMDs on Youtube.

I can't resist clearance games even when I don't know the language. I don't know much about the game other than it won't be localized/"Shining." I'll just keep telling myself I'll eventually learn japanese.

Where's the cheapest place to import psp games? Places like amazon and ebay have stupid prices for really old games.

Odd.. dont see the spoiler tag anyomre.

Anyway, wheres this pic from? You in Japan, or did you find a cool import shop? Prices seem to be in yen. Its sad how many great RPGs never made it over here from the PSP. I have a couple i snagged cuz i found them cheapish but will probably never play them because i wont know wtf is going on

Im not sure if this is part of the shining series. A quick search shows it has a hot pirate chick in it so it must be good

I don't know. I just watch Amazon/eBay but I don't import many JP games.

I'm in Japan. Wikipedia says its part of the shining series but it is made by Media Vision. I also bought the Suikoden games for PSP (why these didn't come here is beyond me) and an obnoxious amount of saturn/dreamcast games. I couldn't help it they are like 50 cents for complete games in Akihabara.

In case anyone is interested in physical copies, Amazon dropped Virtue's Last Reward for 3ds and vita to 19.99.  Picked up a copy for each system to ensure I get one before it goes out of production (can always play the digital versions and keep these sealed).  Maybe it will go lower, but $20 is the cheapest I've seen it previously at Fry's for physical copies.

Kind of tempted to get the Vita version, even though I have the 3DS version and a digital copy from PS+. Just wish it came with a watch.

Persona 4 Golden for Vita is down to $16.99 on Amazon:

I'm glad I didn't bite at $19.99 on BF/Cyber Monday! :D
Might have to bite on this even though I don't have a Vita yet.

Kind of want the PS2 version as well, just for the bonus music disc. $15.89 by a 3rd party seller. (Not trying to steal your thunder, just still on the fence on which version to actually play.)

Zero Escape just dropped to $19.99

3DS

VITA

On the fence, because I want this game...but don't own the Vita yet, just the 3DS.  But looking at the posts, it looks like the Vita is much better than the 3DS version...So thinking if I should buy the Vita one for now, until I purchase a Vita (waiting for another drop down in price for the Vita which I can wait a little longer).

Gamestop.com has it in stock too I believe. Probably gonna order one myself soon, thought that second wave of copies would have lasted longer. (Or I'll just grab one at Fry's since I'm moving near one)

Thanks guys!  Grabbed VLR for 3DS for my fiancee!  I will have to warn her about the bug.  :p

ETRIAN ODYSSEY UNTOLD is $26 or so on Amazon.com right now.  (Grabbed that for her too.  These are too good to pass up.)

Some sellers are quickly trying to compete with Amazon's price, but you can still get it direct from Amazon for $26.  The sellers have it for like 25 cents less.

Thanks for the link! I would also like to note that if you go to "Buying options" the second company on the list has it for 4 cents more and states that it is the first print edition with all of the extras in the description. I am not sure if they ever had a second print without the bonuses but it is a good precaution just in case!

Yikes! Which company is that, to be sure? I will check. Gonna cancel mine and get it from them instead, just in case! BRB

Okay, it's "Shark Distributors". Canceled mine and got it from them instead. I was surprised to see that getting it from Shark instead of Amazon also allowed me to dodge sales tax! That saved me $2.25 instead of just 25 cents, and now I'm sure to get the bonuses. I'll make my fiancee open it right away so I can put that CD on my hard drive. I regret missing out on the EOIV CD. One of the best soundtracks in the history of gaming.

Thanks, Pikagreg :)

I don't know if you already knew this, but the EO Untold CD is only seven tracks. Don't get too excited.
