The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

Feels dirty using Digital River doesn't it? Makes it feel even more dirty using Square-Enix....I hope my Regular Edition goes through and I hope I never order through them again. At least Natsume and Namco, whom use digital river, don't have storefronts that are just terrible. At least when I ordered there (ordered from both at least once) I knew my order went through for the moment at least.
Yeah, the Square-Enix store is plain terrible. After managing to place my order, DR didn't bother shipping for 6 months and then canceled without notifying. I was under the assumption Digital River also managed online orders for the Microsoft store as well. Strangely, my orders there come really quickly and I don't have any issues.

i am curious, was Nier ever censored?
I'm not too sure about the incest thing said above.. but Nier Repilcant was about a brother and sister. They made the old man Nier (or Nier Gestalt) for the US because they felt it would be better received (the father/daughter relationship).. so of course dialogue would be changed a bit to make sense for the difference in scenario. There were also some changes here and there that made a few scenarios in the US version seem a bit odd, but they made sense in the JP version.

Kaine was more vulgar in our version than the JP version. In the JP version, the cuss words were "bleeped". There were a few scenes were her dialogue was just casual talking in the JP version, but in ours was a lot more aggressive and trash talking.

Also in Nier Replicant the male protagonist looks completely different in the first part and 2nd part (age 16 in the first half, age 21 in the 2nd half I believe). This also made the dialogue in Nier Gestalt seem a bit off (when Yonah tells Nier 'you look different, you look stronger'). In our version, he looks the exact same except for an eyepatch, where in the JP version it makes more sense given he looks completely different.

There were many little things like that, that I personally noticed when playing both versions of the game back to back. I wouldn't really say those were censorships. It's hard to compare since the JP protagonist was completely different than ours. The JP version did look more polished graphically though (cleaner looking and without the weird glowy bloom effect look to it) and seemed like more work was put into it (their protagonist having 2 models for each part of the game, and the difference in appearance of the Shadowlord).

From my understanding both Replicant and Gestalt were released in Japan, Replicant being on the PS3 & Gestalt on the 360.

That's about 4.9% cash back roughly. That's not too bad if you think about how other sites (Newegg for example) only reward you 1% cash back normally and 3% at most during events.

NIS gives you 245 reward points for $49.99 and you need 500 for the $5 certificate. What a joke.
Wow, that's really fucking insulting.
Well let's see - of the 2 publishers I currently have CEs preordered from, Square-Enix charges outrageous shipping unless you spend at least $100 and gives you no bonus. NIS gives free shipping @ $50 and gives me points that can be used for store credit, however small an amount. Yep, one of those IS kinda insulting, isn't it?

I would say they both are, but whatever floats your boat.

It's actually free shipping @ $19.99. It is annoying that they leave you short a couple points if you pre-order 2 $50 games, but not all of their pre-orders are $50. If you pre-ordered witch CE then you would get that precious $5 certificate, with points to spare to push you over the top the next time you pre-order 2 $50 games.

If you don't order from NIS often and are just a few points away from your $5 coupon you can get points via the $1 red cross donation on their site. ($1 = 5pts).

I've never even noticed about the NISA points really. I mainly order PS3 and now Vita exclusives....and the PS3 ones are always more expensive so after about 2 orders i get 5 back. Always free shipping for CEs is good too. Square-enix just sucks and I just almost puked having to use their awful digital store but I know If I don't I wont get Drakengard 3, as I prefer physical copies by a lot even if digital is available. I'm a NISA fanboy easily but at least I can navigate their store, change stuff in orders easily, not get screwed on shipping among other things. The NISA points are a bonus and that's that.

man, ppl complain about any and everything.

free game, complain about timing and having to make ID that their children may not like 20 years from now.

super cheap xl (was it due to pricing error, seem to read about them taking about the sign).  complain about the lack of color choice and how they hate pink.

rewards points, how they don't just round it up nice and even so buyers can use them all without leaving points stranded or points shy just of their intended purchase making them having to shop there again.

Need some help from fellow CAGs on getting the best price from Amazon on The Witch and the Hundred Knight.

What I need: Your Amazon email and your Amazon order number with the $20 price.
What's in it for you: $5 (payment method of your choice)
Basically an Amazon rep says I can get the $20 price too with this method. The details are below.
You receive the $5 if Amazon gives me the $20 price. Otherwise you get nothing. Be aware of this before you agree to help.

Amazon CSR transcript:
Initial Question: The Amazon pre-order price guarantee means that if a price is lowered after I pre-order, I receive the lower price without action on my part.

I have heard other Amazon customers have a lower price for their pre-orders of this item. Is it true? Can you check this? Why don't I have this price? I think it was around $20 and this price was offered in Nov 2013.
04:41 PM(GMT) Mohamad N(CSA): Hello, my name is Nadeem. I'll be happy to help you today!
04:42 PM(GMT) Mohamad N(CSA): I am sorry for the inconvenience. Can I get the order number, please?
04:42 PM(GMT) Jack: 104-3120542-1802615
04:43 PM(GMT) Mohamad N(CSA): Thank you.
The item is "The Witch and the Hundred Knights", right?
04:44 PM(GMT) Jack: Correct.
04:44 PM(GMT) Mohamad N(CSA): Thank you.
Jack, I have checked and found that the price has not been dropped. When you ordered it was $39.96 and now the current price of the item is $49.96.
04:45 PM(GMT) Jack: Would it help if I had the email of an Amazon customer with a lower price on this item?
04:46 PM(GMT) Mohamad N(CSA): Can I have the email, please?
That would be great.
04:46 PM(GMT) Jack: I am sorry I do not have it now. I will contact Amazon again at another time when I do.
Thanks for your time today.
04:47 PM(GMT) Mohamad N(CSA): Thank you so much for your patience.
Is there anything else I can do for you today?
04:47 PM(GMT) Jack: Would it help if I had that customer's order number, too?
04:47 PM(GMT) Mohamad N(CSA): Yes, that will also help. I'll offer you the same price then.
04:47 PM(GMT) Jack: Okay, thanks for your time, you've been a great help.
Youre an asshole. You want people to help you scam Amazon and steal from them?

That was a limited time offer from awhile ago. It sucks you missed it but doesnt excuse trying to rip them off.

If you'd read further you'd have seen that he made the preorder before the price drop, but the price drop wasn't reflected in his preorder as it should have been. He was trying to find proof that the price dropped after he made his order. No need to be a dick in a response 3 days late.

Then you must spend most of your life in a bad mood, because you are very easily insulted.
Did someone pee in your Wheaties this morning or something? This really isn't something to be argumentative about.

From a customer point-of-view, yeah I find it insulting. Obviously I'm in the minority when it comes to this particular case, but whatever, I feel like I can survive with that.

Next time I'll try to just keep my big mouth shut.

Don't you understand? Whenever a company does something silly all you have to do is find a company that is worse (this is no easy feat) and we can tell you to stop whining! Honestly you should be so lucky to be able to give a company your money so I think keeping your big mouth shut is the way to go.

I hear ya. Usually people on this site aren't so defensive over companies pulling stupid stunts like that, so that was kind of strange to me.

That being said, the last thing I wanted to do was start a pointless pissing contest in this thread.

Shipping for Drakengard 3 with the SE Store is $7, not including tax. With tax, I think it brings it up to about $61 or so. Play-Asia's price is 63 with free shipping. Plus, if you add in the 10 percent off coupon from Destructoid, it'll be brought down to $56.69.

I'm thinking of getting Drakengard 3 from Play-Asia, but I've never bought from them before. How are they, in terms of ordering and shipping?
I've never had any problems with them at all, at any rate, they're more reliable then Digital River.

I preordered at Digital River for the CE though, I heard they're close to selling out and I think there's a good chance Play-Asia will jack up the price of the CE when they finally make it available to preorder.

Decided to bite on Drakengard CE. My LR order went through fine as most stress came from other people/worrying about it after NNK. Used CC + standard ground since they don't like my paypal for some reason and I ended up getting a FedEx notification 2 days before DR sent me a shipping notice.

fucking church. I've managed to save at least $25 with NIS from codes they've given me.

With Square Enix forcing me to place multiple orders just to get my items delivered to me on the correct date, they have managed to cost me close to an extra $25 in what should have been just a single order.

What the fuck? This can't be real. I mean, not the part about the guy openly admitting that he bought Lightning Returns with the intention of beating off to it in a candlelit room (that's just fucking hilarious.) But Toriyama's alleged statements:

"I love Lightning more than any of you and I would have loved to see her in a dress-up simulator."

“I first began this project as a dress-up simulator but I was told that the game would not sell."

"Now I can see that the true gamers have all come out to express their anger about Lightning Returns."

SERIOUSLY!? The true gamers are the ones that want a digital fucking barbie doll to beat off over while staring at her panties!? Of course! Obviously those scrubs who want all that tactical roleplaying action aren't true gamers.

And the cherry on top of it all? Apparently people have been taken off FF:XV to work on Lightning Returns-2: fuck Fantasy.

Someone tell me this is a load of crap. Please.

I guess you missed my post--that site is pretty much a video game version of The Onion, so their "articles" aren't very accurate or true. ;)

I have been having problems trying to get that coupon. Is the deal dead? The link keeps giving me errors.

It probably was on a limited offer thing. The Coupon itself doesn't expire till May.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention that you need to actually be logged onto Play-Asia to redeem the coupon.

I can confirm the coupon and coupon link still work. I just placed a drakengard preorder for $57, first time ordering from play-asia. Make sure you're signed in when you click the link for the coupon?

Heh, you must have just watched that IGN RPG preview video that I watched yesterday. ;) That threw me for a loop too so I looked the game up since I had never even heard of it - turn out they were talking about the Japanese release date & there's been no word of a US release at all. Yep, they're really up on things over there. :p

Too bad I just placed an order with Play Asia about a week ago. Could have used that coupon and saved ~$8. I wasted a good 30 minutes googling trying to find one but no luck. Oh well. At least I can use it to save $3 on my Dodonpachi Saidaioujou preorder. :D
